Drew @commonbasilisk's OC Reliquael for Artfight! my first traditionally done attack, i had a good time adding all of the feather details and interpreting the design!

My sweet sweet boy. Reliquael belongs to an order of angels known as the Kyriotetes (knowledge holders), but he’s special- he’s not a True Angel, he was Made.

15,000yrs ago (he existed during the time from which a healed femur was found, which some say is the time empathy and humanity was born in earnest) Reliquael was a human called Malachi. His job was to ensure the people of his clan had an easy journey into the afterlife.

One day he went in the early morning to pray for those in his care, when the field he kneeled in was struck by lightning and caught fire. He burned to death. When Death arrived to collect his soul, it was so taken with how well Malachi had done his job, and offered for Malachi to be raised as an angel. Malachi agreed and became the first Raven Angel, changing his name to Reliquael, tasked with accompanying Death and recording the life stories of dying people in Life Books.

He is the keeper of a large library in Heaven now, and occasionally he sends memories to bereaved loved ones. He takes his job very seriously.
