Tl;dr: A Canadian company is planning on a project in Africa that will take up 1/6 of the world's remaining carbon budget. This is an issue of neocolonialism and environmental racism.

1: Recon Africa: Stop drilling in the Kavango Basin, a project that will take up one sixth of the world’s remaining carbon budget.

2: Reconnaissance Africa (ReconAfrica) is a Canadian-registered oil and gas company which has begun drilling for oil in the Kavango Basin, located and Northeast Namibia and Northwest Botswana.

Their license areas cover a total of 34,325 square kilometers (8.5 million acres).

Including parts of the Cubango-Okavango River Basin (traverses through Angola, Botswana, and Namibia) and along the Okavango River, which feeds into the Okavango Delta.

3: The Okavango Delta is a large inland delta located in Botswana and is a world-renowned hotspot of biodiversity.

It is designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and a Wetland of International Importance by the The Ramsar Convention.

It is home to many endangered species, including the African wild dog and the last remaining population of African savanna elephants.

4: ReconAfrica's license areas are home to around 200,000 people.

The company has failed to properly inform and consult with the local people and receive the free, prior and informed consent of the Indigneous San communities.

Several local inhabitants have stated that they were not consulted or even informed that drilling would be taking place.

The few consultations that have occurred happened too late in the process, and were inaccessible to many members of the community.

5: Based on ReconAfrica’s own projections of 120 billion barrels of oil equivalent, a carbon gigabomb of up to 51.6 Gigatonnes of CO2 will be emitted.

The equivalent of one sixth of the world's remaining carbon budget.

6: Activists across the world are calling out and pressurizing Recon Africa along with the Canadian government to stop this catastrophic project.

This is a classic example of neocolonialism, corporate ecocide, environmental racism, and the abuse of power for profit yet again from countries in the Global North. This must be stopped!

Hey remember when US and Russia was all like “We’re the best!!! We’ve won the space race!!!!” But India sent a kick-ass space probe to Mars and the whole mission was fuel efficient, costed less and a roaring success in the first try and then they were like “…..wait no that can’t be true” and still have the audacity to call us “underdeveloped” or only view us as a ‘third world country’? :)

I’m cis because I’m afab and still identify as a woman. If I was afab and identified any other way, I’d be trans. I’m intersex because my body itself has a mixed bag of secondary sex characteristics and hormones.

The label “intersex” itself isn’t a gender identity as much as it’s a way for people with mixed or ambiguous sex characteristics to define that experience. There are cis men and women who are intersex, trans people of every kind as well. I’m sure there are intersex people who just identify as intersex entirely but most intersex people I’ve met still identify as male, female, or nonbinary. Because your body doesn’t determine your gender identity.

Also, the opposite of intersex is perisex. You can be cis or trans, while being intersex or perisex. If you’re not intersex, you are perisex.

!!! THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.

Right now students and teachers are being arrested left and right. These people are protesting how the President of Turkey nominated Melih Bulu (someone who previously served in the ruling party and has no ties to this university) as the rector for Bogazici University, a private university.

Bogazici University is known for having a left-leaning progressive student body and the government is trying to assert control over the students by putting his own men in there. Bulu as a rector has already taken steps such as banning the school's LGBT+ Studies Club.

They are now branding these protestor, these students as "terrorists". The government is especially now targeting LGBT+ people, saying that we don't exist. The police are very much openly targeting and assaulting people who are or support LGBT+ people.

help me pay my overwhelming medical bills?

hey guys. this is a little embarrassing but i could really use some help. back in november i had to move home from new jersey due to some personal issues and also because i have to get a surgery here at home so my family can take care of me when i’m in recovery.. the move costed me around $2000 in expenses and i didn’t have any help with paying it (it also tanked my credit score bc i put it on my credit card lol). 

since then i’ve been pretty low on cash, and now i’m getting medical bills left and right from where i was admitted to the hospital at the end of october for two days and had to get 3 blood transfusions and a bunch of imaging scans done. (i’ll post pics of all these bills at the end), and now i’m having to have a pretty serious surgery done on dec. 29th. im getting a total hysterectomy because i have massive reoccurring fibroids that make my quality of life literally miserable. i work on my feet and it’s practically impossible not to be in constant pain because of them. the surgery, with insurance, is gonna cost around $1100+ and i’m feeling pretty overwhelmed right now

i haven’t been working since mid-november because i had to take an unpaid medical leave for the surgery and it’s taken longer than expected just to get the appointment to book the surgery bc i had to be referred to a cancer specialist just in case my fibroid is cancerous. i had to take the leave just so i can keep my job when this is over with. 

i don’t like to talk about stuff like this on here, but i’m really in a tight spot. by the end of all this i’ll probably owe upwards of $3500 in medical bills. it’s been a rough few months for me and i’d appreciate anything you guys can possibly give, and if you can’t give anything right now if you could just retweet this? thanks ❤️ and happy holidays!
