Like/reblog this post if youāre a young teacher! Preferably in your 20s and in the first five years of teaching. I would love to follow more of you for support, reassurance, communication, etc.
Yo, 28 (maybe not so young? I certainly donāt have almost-retired teachers fawning over my baby status) and starting my 6th year.
Hi there! 26 years old, and itās going to be four years of teaching in the fall for me.
25 and starting my 4th year!
Almost 26 and starting my 5th year in December. Hi! šš»

āMy cousin Helen, who is in her 90s now, was in the Warsaw ghetto during World War II. She and a bunch of the girls in the ghetto had to do sewing each day. And if you were found with a book, it was an automatic death penalty. She had gotten hold of a copy of āGone With the Windā, and she would take three or four hours out of her sleeping time each night to read. And then, during the hour or so when they were sewing the next day, she would tell them all the story. These girls were risking certain death for a story. And when she told me that story herself, it actually made what I do feel more important. Because giving people stories is not a luxury. Itās actually one of the things that you live and die for.ā

[Paul] Ryanās budgets, as analyzed by the Congressional Budget Office under his direction, call for eliminating the whole of the federal government by 2050, except for Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, and the military. This is implied by his reducing everything except Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid ⦠That leaves zero for the Justice Department, the State Department, the Food and Drug Administration, the National Institutes of Health, the Education Department, the National Park Service and everything else we think of as the federal government. ⦠Speaker Ryan is a person who wants to phase out the federal government. That is about as radical a position as you can find in D.C. and Ryan has repeated it many times.Ā Next to no one seems to know that Ryan is [a federal government] abolitionist. It is difficult to see how someone espousing this view can be seen as a moderate conservative.

I love the idea of climbing a ladder while carrying another ladder. Of climbing that ladder carrying a tree. Of climbing the tree to get closer to where rain doesnāt fall, to touch the asceticism of the sky, the hem of drought. As when the woman I love said I donāt love you anymore and I decided to love her for not loving me. Within a year, she loved me again for loving her negations. In the same way, I love the rain for killing itself before it reaches the grass, I love the grass for turning brown, I love brown for being the color of my thirst, I love my thirst for its willingness to kill me. But this is all an idea, a man on a tree on a ladder on a ladder on a planet in a solar system in a poem that is fighting for its life, like the city I see when Ā IĀ close my eyes, or the night of my closed eyes that falls upon the city, or the people in the city who look up and want moonlight, even a quarter moon, even the word moon on a string will do.Ā

The cricket doesnāt wonder if thereās a heaven or, if there is, if thereās room for him. Itās fall. Romance is over. Still, he sings. If he can, he enters a house through the tiniest crack under the door. Then the house grows colder. He sings slower and slower. Then, nothing. This must mean something, I donāt know what. But certainly it doesnāt mean he hasnāt been an excellent cricket all his life.
