It’s been a little while since I’ve posted pictures from my walks, so I thought I’d share what I found this weekend!
So the first two pictures are of a clearing in the forest I walked through, wildflower season and I'm looking forward to more of this.
Next is what I think is shrimp of the woods, but that's more of a guess than an ID. Beside that is a blue mushroom that I have no other information on. It was a bit more blue in person, and quite pretty.
The next picture is too over-exposed(?) to make out the detail of the mushroom, and is reminding me that I need to get my camera fixed so that I can start doing this properly. Next to that is a small example of my absolute favourite group of mushrooms, Boletes. I love them because they are round and have pores instead of gills.
This last mushroom has been appearing all summer, and has evaded identification just as long. As far as I can tell it looks like some kind of Lactaria, but doesn't seem to produce the "milk" that give the genus its name. Very pretty mushroom regardless, always a welcome find.
This last picture is possibly my all-time favourite find and I'm so excited to talk about it. This is (half of) a shed skin from the only species of lizard native to this province, AND is currently thought to be extinct in this area. I've been fascinated with these ever since I was a kid so finding something hopeful like this is very exciting. I've been wanting to get involved with conservation in my area for a while so I think I'll try contacting the local university, I think they might be interested or could point me in the right direction to someone who is. In any case, I want to learn more about these lizards specifically, and see if there's anything I can do to help this local population do well.
To You specifically (reader): If you take a nature picture, I would love to see it! If you don't take nature pictures, you should! You don't need a forest near you to see nature, it can be weeds taking over an abandoned lot. Anywhere left undisturbed has an ecosystem.
