It's really frustrating how many studies of covid these days are like "why is this group of high-risk people so *afraid* of covid? Why aren't they just going back to normal and catching every disease like normal people? What could give them this *hypochondira*?" This is one of many reasons why disabled and ill people MUST be included in health research and the healthcare system.
I am literally being bullied by healthcare providers about masking. They insist that masking shows my anxiety is out of control that its fine to unmask. I'm not a doctor but I can read and it is not safe to go around unmasked. It is incredibly risky behavior. And not doing risky things impulsively is one of the things I work on in therapy. The inconsistency is unacceptable. It makes me angry

i like when fiction treats love as a more complicated force and not something that is inherently pure, redemptive, or salvific. portray it as flawed and complex as any other human impulse. give me love as prejudice, love as possessive stasis, love as addiction, love as blindness, etc.
being a comic fan feels like i'm constantly trying to play catch up. sure I may have read fifty runs but there are twenty more my mutuals are always blogging about that i've never even heard of. sure I can identify most of the members of the justice league from a double page spread but i can't name all of them and certainly not all their powers. as soon as i read another comic run a new one i've never heard of takes my attention before i can conquer the rest of my to-read list and the cycle repeats ad infinitum
I was at a courthouse once, and saw an indigenous australian woman in a dressing gown very carefully and gingerly making her way down the steps outside the courthouse, surrounded by family who were helping her down the stairs. We asked if she was OK, because she looked awful. She looked like she should have been wrapped up in bed with blankets and hot soup, not on the steps of a courthouse.
One of her family told us that she had given birth yesterday evening, but that Child Protection services had taken her baby away with no warning, claiming that she wasnt prepared to look after him. What had happened, is that she'd literally only just given birth -- hadn't even passed the afterbirth yet, is holding her blood-coated, crying, newborn baby to her chest -- and a nurse asked what her feeding plan was. She was tired from the birth and distracted by the brand new baby in her arms and thrown off by the timing of the question, but still, she managed to answer, and said she planned to breastfeed him whenever he was hungry.
Well apparently that wasn't enough of a plan for the hospital staff, who reported her and claimed that she was unprepared to look after the child, and claimed that had no social supports, and that the baby was at risk if left with her. All because a brand new mother, 30 seconds after giving birth, didn't have a PowerPoint presentation ready to go that cited the timing cycle she would feed her kid on, and instead simply said that she would feed him when he was hungry.
Child Protection services showed up, took her kid, and she was told to show up to court the next day to contest custody if she wanted her baby back.
So a woman who had given birth less than 24 hours prior was forced to rally her family and show up to court to prove that she a) had a feeding plan for the child, and b) had enough social supports to justify reclaiming her baby.
It was one of the most appalling things I'd ever seen. I don't even know if she won her case. They didn't know at the time we saw them, and after that brief interaction on the stairs, i never saw them again. I sincerely hope she got her newborn baby back.
That was about 5 years ago. And the exact same kind of thing is still happening today.
News broke today from a South Australian whistle-blower of the appalling treatment new mothers frequently receive, including hospital staff taking the baby away from the mother "for medical tests," only for the mother to then be told, with absolutely no prior warning, that the baby was not going to be returned to her.

anon hater just accused me of (among other things) "encouraging kids to install malware on their parents' computers". I don't remember ever doing that but it sounded like a fun concept for a post so here are some ideas for things to install on your parents' computers!
a custom DNS resolver that blocks access to Fox News and other right-wing propaganda outlets
a keylogger to capture the admin password for your router so you can disable parental controls
a VPN or a virtual machine running the Tor browser to bypass access restrictions and age verification checks
your own "parental controls" browser extension, set up to send you notifications if your parents visit websites that indicate they might be spying on you (e.g. Life360)
a userscript that adds a fake virus warning popup to the donation pages of fascist political parties
have fun! make sure to do loads of reading and learn how things work so you can break them safely and effectively!
oh, and anon, my advice to you is never stab a man who collects knives
This is a reminder for those who handmake Christmas presents that now is not too early to start. It may in fact be a good time to start if you have a lot to make/your craft takes a long time. You should maybe start it now, whether that's brainstorming or actually doing the crafts!

What is your explanation for these daily massacres in Gaza and throughout Palestine?
For 1000 days, 100 people have been dying every day, the majority of them children, women, and the elderly, right before your eyes and within your hearing. What kind of logic is this? What explanation can there be for the extermination of an entire people? Where are the rights, the charters, and the international treaties? It has become clear that they are all lies. The strongest imposes their control. What is our sin, we defenseless civilians, that we should be exterminated? Wake up, I beg you!
Why must I die and see those around me die? Is this fair while the whole world lives in peace? Why must I fight just to stay alive? Why must my father struggle with his illness alone? I don't want to lose my father or anyone I love here. Please donate to me and my family and save us from this injustice. Please donate now.
I can't do this alone, but I'm doing my best. Please don't let my efforts go to waste. Donate, please donate! Anything helps, but please do your utmost and donate. I don't know how to say this, but truly, these donations are our lifeline, and without them, we will perish and never survive. Please do your utmost to help us.
If you can't donate, please share this post widely. Help us find someone who can and will donate. Share with your family, your friends, everyone who can. Please contribute whatever you can; our lives are in danger.

Yoshiro Kimura's new game Stray Children is a spiritual successor to Moon: Remix RPG, but it has more than a little in common with Undertale
If you’re enjoying Moon: Remix RPG Adventure’s newly released Switch port, you probably have Undertale creator Toby Fox to thank. In a recen
There is no 'Undertale' without 'moon,' the so-called "anti-RPG" that took the many tropes of the JRPG and turned them on their head.
Putting all these interviews here to emphasize the importance of Moon Remix RPG Adventure's in inspiring Toby Fox, and how Undertale in turn inspired one of its devs, Yoshiro Kimura, to take a chance and make a game like Moon again
i just think thats beautiful to find out that a little known game you made when you were in your 20s inspired a kid (who was like probably fucking 7 years old when it came out) who grew up to make one of the most beloved games ever made
I think about this cake every day
sorry for exposing your tags but this is hilarious
OP, I hope you don’t mind me making an addition:
When I turned 17, we ordered a cake at the grocery store for my party, as we’d done many times before. If you wanted something written on the cake you’d write it into a section of the order form. We requested, very simply, “Happy Birthday Courtney”. When we went to pick it up the day of the party, this is what we got.
The bakery employees had absolutely no explanation for this. The order form, attached to the box, very clearly did not contain any of those extra names. Whomever had done the writing was no longer in, so there was no one to ask how this had happened. The fact that the name ‘Juan’ is misspelled bewilders me to this day. (I’ve never seen ‘Miley’ without the E, either, but it’s believable that someone might spell it that way.) Did this cake slip in from an alternate universe where I’m one quarter of a set of Hispanic quadruplets? Dyslexic Hispanic quadruplets, maybe?
This cake became the focal point of my party. At least two of my friends regularly called me ‘Courtney Mily Jaun Pablo’ for years to come. My siblings and I still reference it sometimes, eleven years later. It is probably the funniest thing ever to occur at any birthday celebration of my life, and may well remain so for the rest of my days.
I love a botched cake.
one time me and some pals spotted one of those big cookie cakes in a store. it was done up with red icing and little X's for kisses and in the middle it said
No One Like You
now, it took us a while to realise it meant "(there is) no one like you". at first, we all parsed it as a botched "no one like(s) you"
for ages after when we'd wind each other up we'd declare "NO ONE LIKE YOU ☹️👎"
I just feel like it's important to post the Sacred Texts
