hi everyone! I’m august, and this blog is for me to showcase my crafts :D
I sew, particularly stuffies but also doll clothes, I crochet, I spin, and I weave (though unfortunately not on a big loom)! I don’t have a shop, probably won’t for a few years, but if you send me a pattern I will make it!
please just ask me whatever, and feel free to submit your own crafts!

I went to a special exhibition hosted by the Toronto Palestinian Film Festival to learn more about the Palestinian thobes and textiles. These gorgeous thobes comes from all parts of Palestine and before the Nakba.
I bought a quarterly needlepoint magazine from 1991 today for $1 at an op shop, and there’s a four page spread about a woman who completely faithfully remakes samplers from the 1600s and the part that blows me away is that she was keeping women in history alive.
The original sampler maker was a teenaged girl called Loara she’s the only one known of seven siblings in that family. She was born approximately 1632 and had passed before her father had in 1656 which they know because it was mentioned in his will.
So in the 1630-40s a girl made a sampler, in 1991 a woman had put in years of research before recreating the sampler as Loara had 350 years earlier , and I’m reading about it in 2024.
Embroidery keeps women alive in history, and it’s part of why I love samplers so much.

We actually keep this picture hanging up in our costume shop. If you have ever operated a sewing machine, this picture will speak to you on a spiritual level.
It does. And that’s why the machine is sitting under the desk gathering dust for approx. 10 years. while I long for being able to sew simple clothes ( I used to do it… loooong ago…) I’m just afraid of uppydowny going crazy on my fingers, and tangled blue line and the dilithium cristal exploding. I may try with someone holding my hand 😱

I wanted to post about this because I know many of my mutuals are avid crafters and I don't know how much attention this endeavour is getting outside of end-of-life spaces-
The Loose Ends Project matches crafters with a project that is unfinished because of death or disability. They offer help with a spectrum of textile mediums in over 80 countries. One project I find particularly lovely: “My mom was making this octopus for me. She was 67 years old when she passed away from COPD. She was hospitalized for pulmonary rehab several times and would always take it to work on while she was there and loved to talk about it with people."
(the red heart marks the last stitch made by this person's mom) Anyway, if something like this is something you'd like to be involved in, they are always looking for more crafters <3
My favourite recent finishing project that they posted about wasn't precisely something that the crafter left unfinished. The knitter in question had had dementia, and thought she was knitting scarves. So a finisher was found to piece all the little bits of knitting together into a blanket.

Final bit for now because I am so fucking exhausted of this and I want a post to link back to for when they get mad at me later. Terfs do not get to enjoy my work. Radfems do not get to enjoy my work. I understand that it's appealing to want to have someone who does ~womanly arts~ in your pocket as aspirational or something to share around in your fucked up circles. Your fucked up little projections of who I am and the fetishizations of my skills are your own problems, which become not my problem through blocking you sick fucks on sight. I am trans. Trans hands stitch out every centimeter of my work. A trans brain creates every design. Go fucking rot in hell so that I and my peers can fucking live in peace.
