Im a nerd that’s super critical of the things I consume. Food(often), anime, manga, books(every few decades when I finally read them again), live action tv, cartoons, games(I play a lot of those), and movies(I’m middling on those.) and I like to yap. So I post what I’ve got on my mind in terms of media here! Most of my takes probably won’t be popular. But that’s life. Oh and also I write fanfiction on occasion.
I need some strangers on the net to know that I just woke up from a dream where I ran into kwame kilpatrick, Dean and Sam Winchester, Charlie Brown, Superboy(the little one), and Conan Edogawa’s soccer ball from one specific old episode. This is somebody’s fault. i just don’t know whose.
Man I just finished My Hero Heroes’ Mission about 5 years late and… wtf…???? It’s not even a crazy gripe I have with it but SPOILERS anyway
Imagine getting fucking impaled to save the world and they can’t even slide you a check? A gift card to goodwill or something so you and your siblings aren’t living in rags??? Seriously, did they even pay for his hospital stay??? They fr just said “thanks! We’ll leave you to your poverty now!” And bounced! And it seems they didn’t even release the video proving his dad’s innocence either which means his ass doesn’t even get the credit he deserves even in death😭. Im not even gonna go into the stupidity of the villain, it was almost sad how useless he was. I was very disappointed to learn that despite being worldwide it’s mostly the same set of bums from japan we’ve been seeing for years now.
Speaking of new places same faces, I was surprised the had a team of top heroes for america and somehow the big all might lady whose name escapes me right now didn’t show up. I would guess maybe she was meant to be a surprise? But considering they were about to commit chemical warfare and genocide… it just kinda feels like they forgot.
The lack of inclusion for two of the continents was just sad. Like seriously. Two (maybe 3 or 4? The ones on the outermost corners are hard to tell) bombs in the entirety of Africa and just one in Australia? Like most of the bombs are Europe and Asia! Why???? What the actual fuck was that organization planning??? And if they wanted to kill all the top heroes by sending them towards the bombs, what was stopping them from putting up a bunch of secret bombs outside and setting them off? Their goal is still genocide, so what sense does it make to leave space for new heroes to come in? In that same vein, they already knew the heroes were surrounding the bombs and were fully set on killing them, so what was stopping them from setting those bombs off early and killing everyone?(the answer is of course that it would end the series but fuckin hell)
I’m gonna be completely honest. The fight scenes were pretty mediocre, just flash for the sake of flash. The best one in my opinion is the final one and that’s mostly because of the dialogue and music that goes with it. Otherwise theyre either easy wins or spam the same moves until it finally “dies”. And for heroes who know that they’re fighting a majority group of average and quirkless people they are super comfortable using superpowers to kick, explode, freeze, and burn any and all people who get in their way. I know they’re villains, but Deku wasn’t even this comfortable manhandling Rody with black whip(he should absolutely have caught Rody long before he ever lost that case. We know he can catch moving vehicles and Rody isn’t half that fast considering he’s openly baffled when Deku does it.), the cops that literally tried to shoot him on sight, or the literal woman who tried to shoot him full of holes(who any of them could’ve saved, by the way. We’ve seen them all do saves way harder than knocking or blocking an arrow or catching a falling woman.) I think the final base infiltration would’ve actually been cooler if they hadn’t been pointlessly split up. Have them all join together to force their way through the line. Have todoroki create an ice shell around them as protection from the bullets. Have bakugo as propulsion and Deku’s black whip steer while Todoroki further impedes backup with a 3 foot thick wall of ice. Instead they just leave bakugo against the gunmen and he gets riddled with holes(to be fair, not by the gunmen.) and todoroki nearly drowns and gets dropped by some rando because he exhausted himself with the fight. Honestly the fact that shoto doesnt get used as a defense this movie was very disappointing. His quirk is a perfect attack, defense, and maybe even support but he’s generally just a ramp/slide and attack.
And as a final complaint, I am very sad the special mission suits were only for the first scene of the movie. It was such a waste for them to go back to their regular designs(which i personally think are ugly) and it’s an even bigger shame that none of the other characters get similar costume changes. It wasn’t even like it was a covert mission since they went in guns blazing. I think it would’ve been cool if they had maybe dressed the kids up in more subtle, sneaky outfits and given them the more lowkey jobs as it makes sense to not put the next generation on the front lines but nope. The adult heroes aren’t shit once again and may as well not be in the movie.

And that’s the list so far! I’ve made my month very miserable. Out of all the ones I’ve read I think I’ve only liked 1 or 2? It’s been a time. I probably won’t make posts about the oneshots or simpler plot ones. But yeah! That’s where I’ve been for the newyear!
I played dispatch in 2 days! And it kinda… really fuckin’ sucked. (Spoilers!)
Hhhhhh AAAAAAGGGGGGGH. So… for the sake of transparency, I finished the game once and got the “bad” ending. I didn’t play it again because some numbnuts on the design team decided they were too good to add skips or fast forwards. I didn’t bother romancing invisigal because they wrote her to be genuinely unpleasant to a degree where i wanted to fire her within the first shift and got progressively more irritated from there. Unfortunately it is glaringly obvious that she’s the dev team’s favorite because she is unrepentantly shoved down your throat no matter how much you try to get rid of her. Here’s kind of a breakdown of my issues with the game in no particular order.
The ending of the bad route and the odd use of nudity, violence, and profanity.
The ending: I’m not even gonna go crazy deep into the ending because the writers sure as hell didn’t. If you don’t coddle the everloving shit out Invisigal despite giving her an absolutely insane amount of chances, she’s going to betray you even though she’s a shit hero, a shit villain, and a giant liability. I tried to walk the middle ground with her despite actually hating her, and in the end she kills shroud then fucks off to go be evil. The final battle is… really boring? Like the QTEs were really annoying, I did not care for Sonar and literally only forgave him because I wasn’t trying to replay any of the cutscenes to save his sorry ass later on. The villain’s motives are… really poorly explored and just sound like “I didn’t get my toy and now I’m angy” and he acts like Light from deathnote with the same major oversights and gaps in his “perfect predictions”. The whole “risking the lives of probably everyone you know and love” for the dog thing really pissed me off, especially because there’s about 3 different people on the team who should’ve done something to save that fucking breadloaf of a dog. Chase has superspeed and flight, why he doesn’t use it to save his best bud is beyond me. Malevola has portals. Self explanatory. Portal and punch. And Coop could’ve easily thrown a knife through his skull considering he didn’t visibly have any weapons out to kill the dog before he dropped. Instead everyone just… stares? I mean the big bad of the game getting his shit rocked in some kids’ movie teamwork makes the dream work and resorting to threatening the MC’s dog is just… I barely had the time to take him seriously? He does a little ass whooping, then starts losing, then gets betrayed by Invisigal… again. Shocker to nobody with a brain? And i romanced Blazer cause… well why not? Plus this game has this weird thing where it’ll kinda pretend you’re getting closer to or romancing both love interests no matter what you’re doing, so I figured I’d just full ball with one. Despite all the nudity, profanity, and general graphicness, the only result you get for romancing your love interest of choice is an obnoxiously noisy kiss scene… n that’s it.
Nudity: Despite the clear desire to be “for the big kids”, the use of nudity feels juvenile, out of place, and unnecessary. What’s the point of a dream sex scene with Invisigal? Dunno. Not really consequential beyond fueling her definitively harassment case qualifying interactions Robbitch. Why do we need a scene where some slime guy whips his dick out and makes a joke about it? Cause it’s inappropriate and that means funny! Why do we need to see Blazer’s areola(a really specific thing?) who knows. Get bent. I don’t think theres a single instance in which a scene that contained nudity lacking nudity would have mattered. Like invisigal’s dream sequence could have easily been a kiss scene and instead we get this uncomfortable, jarring and excruciatingly extended sex scene(which goes nowhere if you, like me, chose not to get any closer to her) my point is… feels like a child’s idea of an r-rated movie. If I wanted that kind of nonsense in something I was watching I’d just watch Deadpool one again.
Profanity: As my posts have probably made obvious, I don’t mind profanity. I curse quite a bit myself, so I don’t usually mind if media or people do it. That being said, Dispatch really overuses profanity, much like my complaint about the nudity, feels like some teenager’s idea of adults and rated r content. This is most obvious in the form of Chase. Sure they acknowledge that he says fuck a lot, but he’s so baked into the story that even if they acknowledge that fact that he does it, it can and most likely will get on your nerves at some point. It’s most notable during tense scenes where he destroys any tension simply by opening his mouth. I have other thoughts about Chase specifically, but for now I’ll leave it at that.
Violence: Specifically the graphic kind, so not basic things like punching and kicking. They have it in spades… but… honestly I feel like there’s very few scenes that really call for it or where they improve it. Like in the bar-fight scene my favorite parts were literally just Prism singing and blinding people, Malevola tossing a sacrifice to Golem, and Golem shooting pool balls at people. The rest of the scene just had gratuitous amount of violence that made me bored, especially because it was interspersed between scenes of Robert and co eating tacos? (Very disorienting and just made the scene way longer than it had to be.) I actually showed my mom the bar-fight because I thought Prism was hilarious and I could tell she was uncomfortable both by her expression and because she told me, and it made perfect sense. It was doing a lot and so little at the same time. Like you could remove most of the blood from the scene and it’d make… no difference. Broken record ‘nd all, but juvenile violence too.
Characters
Robert III: Is an incredibly uninteresting protagonist, which is impressive because he spends half the game speaking for himself in the slog of infinite cutscenes. He just manages to not feel like a character or a person. More like a DARE poster with a mouth. They never explain what the fuck happened to his ear in the actual plot, despite bringing it up repeatedly. And his permanent stubble just really irritates me for some reason. Like I thought it was just because he doesnt shave his facial hair and cant grow it all that well in the first place and then they show him shaving and it just skips the stubble??? I dunno, it’s a side point, but it irritates me.
Phenoman: Less irritating than Robert, but… I don’t understand his misunderstandings of human culture? He seems to have been on Earth for several years and yet somehow he still calls embracing people “making love”, doesn’t know what the hell a boundary is, and seems to just generally not understand anything about humans despite being fundamentally very similar to them? It just feels like someone doing the “alien doesn’t understand humans funny haha” bit that a lot of media with aliens do. He even speaks perfect english??? I don’t understand.
Flambe: God… Not only is his voice extremely grating, but he’s just one step below being just as big a liability as Invisigal… and he’s also just a massive dick, so there’s that. I don’t like him, and despite the fact that I didn’t care for Sonar, I would very much have rather fired this guy or his equally unpleasant and stabable female companion.
Sonar: Unfortunately brought down by his voice actor, being one of the only characters to suffer from this in the game. It doesn’t sound like Charles tried. So he just sounds like moistcritikal and he suffers for it.
Blazer(420): She’s… Fine? Certainly leaps and bounds better than the other love interest? But because the devs obviously favored discount GoGo from Big Hero Six, she’s barely developed in her own romance route further than learning her name and that she isn’t blonde??? Also, I just found it unpleasant and to a degree, disrespectful that the powerful female hero not only doesn’t really have her own powers and that they come from a rock, but that it also makes her blonde? It’s unnecessary and honestly the only use that fact has is that it saves Chase’s annoying ass in the ending.
Chase: He feels like a generic caricature of an old black guy, and while I like him, he bugs me on varying levels. They never explain why the hell Chase seems to be the only character with like… violently shitty consequences for using his powers, nor how in the actual fuck someone wouldn’t notice that they’re aging 50 times faster when using their powers is beyond me. Assuming powers manifest in childhood, knowing how kids are, and knowing how chase acts, for every 175 hours(7 days) he runs, he ages a year, and with hero work, and other factors like how in childhood youre a whole lot more likely to run that much in about a month, there’s just… no way nobody saw that coming. Plus, are you trying to tell me that his 50x aging never caused problem until he just got old? Makes no fuckin sense. And it also makes his collapse post chapter 6(i think) even weirder. If he takes that long to age I don’t really see why 50 (about 4 minutes if you multiply it by 50) or so seconds of use would nearly kill him. How old is he supposed to be physically anyway? None of it matters because despite 8 hours of shit happening on the screen, they barely explore characters outside of Invisigal and Robert.
Golem: He’s fine. Barely talks, barely gets screen time, and does not matter because he aint sexy enough. (Kidding)
Coop: She’s ok, I like her and I find her more charming than Sonar. That being said, I feel like having tits attached to her automatically means it is necessary to have at least one weird flirty scene with the paper bag known as Robert? And that’s not a personal thing it’s just something I feel happens to all the female characters at least once, with the exception of Prism(I think?)
Malevola: God why could she not have just replaced Invisgal? Don’t appreciate her randomly groping Robert in the housewarming section though. Seriously, assault and harassment isn’t cool just because a character’s not a dude.
Royd(?): I liked him, but his accent was weird and at times felt forced which made his emotional scenes really distracting to me. Also, his turn around time for being sad was so minuscule despite how much time we waste on Invisigal and all of her nonsense.
I’m editing this one to say: it’s entirely possible that it isn’t Royd’s accent that’s messing with the performance, and instead the voice actor maybe just wasn’t very experienced and instead that’s why emotional scenes fell flat instead of the accent, which may have just been what caught my attention.
Punch up: Eh… I mean him being played by Jacksepticeye was distracting, but never as much as Sonar, and Sean actually does a really good job in emotional scenes compared to the giant fursona. I did, however read the side comics(that explain more about the characters in 15 pages than the 8 hours of cutscenes and dialogues) and i don’t particularly think the information(and visual) that him and Coop had sex in the past was really necessary? Especially not in the comic that’s explaining more about the characters they couldn’t be arsed to explore in the actual game. But yeah. That’s just a thing that’s in the comic that I don’t think is actually relevant in game? So… figure that out, I guess.
Waterboy: I fear that his tumblr tag is just full of nsfw. Also the gag of him puking water is funny for just about… the first time he does it and then just gets annoying because you can hear him retching in your ears. His shy and nervous disposition is almost charming but it gets to a point where it just seems like incompetence? I dunno. He’s just a mid point character for me. I think he’s just too far into boy failure territory for me.
Prism: My personal favorite character because she is incredibly funny. Also the reason I care about the soundtrack.
Beef: Stupid ass cute dog. On my shit list but still eligible for belly rubs.
Invisigal: :/… I mean I don’t feel like I really need to, but allow me to explain the ways in which she fails as a character for me. The sexual harassment and potentially assault(you can say Robert does the same thing all you want, the kiss at the beginning of the game is entirely optional) and regular old assault. She is incapable of taking no as an answer, like an overgrown toddler. And even though she is by far the closest to basically not having any powers, she shit talks Robert not having any the most… like you couldn’t just up and take her inhaler and suddenly she’s powerless. Invisibility is barely a step up from just running the hands, she’s a glorified chameleon and the fact that nobody in the game ever acknowledges that drives me insane. Also, not only is the augments thing kind of poorly introduced(really not something I acknowledged until they explicitly stated they were augments in the locker-room scene from when you fire her) and.. don’t make much sense? Like, if she was trying to hide the fact that she worked for the bad guys and got the augments, common sense would dictate that you don’t wear a crop top??? Especially when said augments seem to glow red??? How the hell nobody saw that or how it never came up sooner is beyond me. She gets thrown around, stands in the dark, and somehow we never see it until she feels like it. Actually I’m pretty sure they actively omit it until it’s a cool reveal, because in the unnecessary sex scene, they’re very much not present.(right under the boobs, grey and red, and notably completely fucking absent.) And the augments, like I said, are really poorly introduced. You see people with metal parts, sure, but they for the most part literally just look like replacements. A new jaw doesnt look like an augment, it looks like you lost your jaw and need a new one. It wasnt even really until the bar-fight that i started realizing they were actually augmentations which is shitty world building. I mean seriously, how does black market body augmentation not come up at all during the first 5 of 8 chapters??? Especially when the main villain is a villain because he wants to enhance his brain augment? Im getting off subject though. No matter how forgiving you are, Invisigal just refuses to fucking listen, and I don’t think Chase was at all wrong for saying she was bound to drag someone down with her. I mean shit, there’s a fine line between being forgiving and understanding and being a doormat and kiss-ass all just so one annoying character doesn’t become evil. As i stated in my opening… I couldn’t be bothered, so she murdered Shroud. Oops. Honestly I’m all for it if it means we’re allowed to kill her next game. And i think it’s kind of funny that they tried to imply we did something wrong and now she’s the next shroud and that vewy scawy and bad but like… she’s so stupid I cannot imagine her managing to lead 3 blind mice to cheese let alone enough people to be a hazard. Hell she was so shit at just being a team member that the team nearly unanimously voted to fire her post chase folding like a doorhinge. But this section has gotten too long, so I’ll just end it with: Invisigal is a terribly written nightmare and I hate her.
Cutting this short, probably. In conclusion. Man fuck dispatch.
A not so hot take(actually probably really cold take): All it takes is 1 really bad character to ruin a story.
So… I’ve been thinking lately(unfortunate), and I think that just one bad character can actually tank a story, and it doesn’t even have to be the protagonist. If a story can’t either treat the character like a bruise on an apple and cut it out, or fix the character(if they have room to still be fixed. Sometimes a hoe just gotta die.(good examples are Gowther, Zenitsu, and Bakugo from Seven Deadly Sins, Demon Slayer, and My Hero respectively ) Though sometimes it’s a sorry combo of bad writing and one character shaped shining example of that piss poor writing. Now, I think it can come in a few forms, those forms being: bad because they were just written poorly(pretty self explanatory, they aren’t meant to suck, they just aren’t written well and suck as a result.), bad because they’re flat (also self explanatory. Not usually bad just because they’re flat, but bad because they aren’t meant to be flat, and they just suck ass at being round.) , bad because they're just doing too fucking much and for seemingly no reason.(anyone who has ever had the misfortune of speaking to me will know that this is actually specifically referring to MHA’s Bakugo Katsuki and Alien Stage’s Luka. Fuck those sandy little bastards.) , and bad simply because ion like em.(usually it’s some mixture of things, none of which I can be arsed to specify, but know that they exist, and some day, when I am not writing at 4 AM instead of sleeping I may share them in a likely more coherent post.)
In the “Bad because they’re written poorly section” is:
Hanagaki Takemichi - Tokyo Revengers
He’s the protagonist, but he’s awfully written, and incapable of change as though someone tried to recreate Naruto with even less charm, and fucked it up so badly it ruined the entire series. Take can never do what he makes up his mind to do, he never gets stronger, he never learns, and he sure as hell never protects anybody that matters. He sucks and the story does too.
The girls in “Throw away The suit together” (spoilers)
literally nearly commit suicide by the end of the story by fucking each other on a hot summer day while already fighting dehydration and like… i know im supposed to root for them but honestly at that point it was hard to root for characters who couldn’t even be arsed to root for themselves beyond saying “fuk it wi ball” and calling it a day. (At least that’s if I’m remembering the ending correctly. They could’ve been doing it on a normal temp day and risking dying instead. It’s really not a big difference.)
Aquamarine Hoshino - Oshi no Ko (Disclaimer: I did not, and probably will not ever finish this series. I read 92 chapters and spent all of them hating him.) (spoilers)
He sucks. He kisses children, he whines uselessly, he broods constantly, and he obsesses over the child idol who became his mother(a fact that he was still strange about even when he was just getting to know her). i do not like him. I am not going to elaborate further. Just know. I wish he had died instead of Ai. And that’s knowing how the series ends.
I don’t think whoever made this realized they made a really shit protagonist. He constantly gaslights, stalks, and on occasion borderline harasses his love interest all in the name of “romance”. He’s awful at his job despite his ego and superior mind being shoved into the faces of the viewers constantly, and multiple serial killings happen on his watch. He’s so fucking stupid that he, for whatever reason constantly puts himself at an objectively preventable disadvantage by not just asking the professor to just add more darts to that watch of his or, god forbid, give him more tools that don’t require that he either have a kick-able object or 1 target at any time??? Give him a toy gun that actually shoots sleep darts or something. Everybody canonically treats him like some rambunctious 5 year old despite him being what, 7 and clearly smarter than every other child character introduced(with the exception of Ai)?. But in the end he doesn’t change. He continues to be incapable of tracking one of the least competent organizations known to man, and gets his head pushed in by the most annoying group of grade schoolers known to man. He’s a weak character, let alone an MC, and he brings the story down with him. I’ll make a more in depth post about him soon, but know that I hate him. I really do.
Zenitsu Agatsuma - Demon Slayer (spoilers)
He harasses Nezuko, cries and whines at every turn, and is a grating pervert with no redeeming qualities. He seriously does not have anything going for him, but we as the audience are supposed to want him to be the love interest for poor Nezuko. I don;t think he's actually meant to be as unlikable as he is, since the series actually rarely acknowledges it outside of jokes and one off bits, made clearer by the fact that he still gets the girl in the end anyway.
Skipping "bad because they're flat" because while I know they exist, this post is already way too long and I just wanna finish it.
Onto "bad because they're just doing too fucking much and for seemingly no reason"
Catra - She-Ra
She’s such a weak character, and that’s an opinion I hold even after I’ve read and watched many in depth analyses about her. Trauma is one thing… everything Catra does is another.
Katsuki Bakugo - My Hero Academia
People can try to get me to read more of the series for whatever arc he has till they’re blue in the face. It ain’t gonna happen. If Horikoshi wanted to write a redeemable character he should’ve considered that before he, unprompted wrote a guy whose dream is to be a hero telling a kid to kill himself because he doesn’t have superpowers. Him and his inferiority complex can kick rocks. He’s not a good kid, he’s a guy who attempted murder more than once because everything didn’t go the way he wanted it to.
Luka - Alien Stage
He’s a bitch. That’s it, that’s all the explanation I’m giving, lest I be here for the next 3 weeks.
Any adult male and occasional female - Seven Deadly Sins
Honestly the whole orchard is rotten in this series. Wtf was wrong with the guy who wrote this?
Kazuma Sato - Konosuba
Hating and disrespecting women, isn’t particularly funny, and that’s most of the jokes in Konosuba.
Jinx - Arcane
Honestly, the fact that so much of the show stands on her blowing up her family in the world’s most preventable accident and then crying about it the entire show is all I really need to explain it.
Batman - Really?
People can say Gotham is cursed and that’s the reason they can never kill all the crime bosses, but this guy with billions of dollars to waste on beating on the mentally ill and who won’t kill them because that’s not his job, but will still gladly keep going out and inadvertently create new villains can’t I don’t know? BUILD A MORE SECURE MENTAL HOSPITAL??? HIRE BETTER STAFF? He has the money and time to waste to cosplay in the night and collect kids, but apparently we stop at actually trying to reform a system instead of just being a really shitty cog in it. :/
Percidal/ Dally - Wakfu (spoilers)
He’s almost a cool character, but much like Zenitsu up above, he does not find consent sexy, and that’s not very unenjoyable for a character. Shocking, I know. He actively weighed Wakfu as a whole down for me, especially in season 3 with the introduction of his 2(eventually 3) kids, all of which are mothered by the woman he spent most of the season harassing. And it’s clear the writers just thought that was the pinnacle of romance, because it suddenly rubs off on Yugo, making him an obnoxious little incel for the entire season. Honestly, if he had been replaced by another character or toned down severely I would’ve probably had Wakfu as on of my favorite show just… in general.
Invisigal - Dispatch
I have a whole separate post about her, honestly. Just a dogshit character.
And that is my rant for the moment. In short, it’s easy to taint a story. Just like one rotten maccy cheese can poison all my maccy cheese :( I’ll keep updating this post over time, because I made the end of this post right before bed and I know I’ve forgotten some other examples.
I actually just read what I think might just be one of my favorite things ever. It’s called “On the Way to Meet Mom” and it has to be one of the most simple but heart squishing I’ve ever had the pleasure of witnessing. I’ve never really been that into webtoons but this one i kept seeing panels from and then it popped up in my recommended… 2 hours later, I’m crying and kicking my feet in my living room at 2 am. All of the characters are unique even if some are simple, and I came out of it not being mad at how it ended or thinking any of the characters were being irredeemable. (Which is rare for me.) Honestly I think I’m gonna have to join a cult surrounding this. Cult of Poco, Cult of the Lamb and Cult of Mori…. This crowd of cults is growing far too fast.
You made a list of anime with “bad endings”, so I’m curious to know your list of anime with “good endings”.
Honestly, I’m personally an episodic comedy anime person, and I read more than I watch but in terms of anime i thought had decent endings:
Haven’t You Heard? I’m Sakamoto
Charlotte(though it has been years since I watched it and honestly my opinion might be different now if I rewatched it)
Little Witch Academia
Little Shark’s Day Out (for whatever reason it has a weirdly emotional episodes that actually made me cry at some point)
A Destructive God Sits Next to Me
How to Keep a Mummy(which technically I don’t think had an ending in the anime but I enjoyed it)
and Hunter X Hunter (as far as the anime went, hated Hisoka though). Though it’s been like over 5 years since I watched most of these so my memories of them and their endings are significantly fuzzier than for some of the newer shows I’ve seen. Honestly some of these could just suck and I don’t remember
I watch and enjoy movies a little more than anime but still watch them less than I read manga, and in terms of movies ones I enjoyed that I thought had good endings were:
Fly! Peek the Whale!
Ponyo
Spirited Away
Wolf Children(which I watched a long time ago so it could suck in hindsight but I remember it hurting my feelings)
Yokai Watch the Movie
And in terms of manga? Honestly I read a lot of slice of life, comedy, and Yuri, which isn’t particularly because I have something against other genres, it’s just that I find pretty consistently enjoy things from those genres. Here’s the list:
Gal to Cthulhu(girl and her pet elder god)
Your Letter (Short, sweet, and kind of like Your Lie in April if I actually enjoyed it)
Lonely Wolf, Lonely Sheep(Depressing, but I enjoyed it)
Run Away With Me, Girl (a girl and her pregnant childhood friend run away together. I liked it, thought it was a good read)
Shounen no Ato (A vampire boy and his adoptive mother who had a crush on his now very dead biological mother. They go on a journey of bonding and he… drinks blood for some reason(honestly I do not remember why))
Days of Love at Seagull Villa (…it’s yuri and I vaguely remember liking how it ends but it’s been a while)
The Wife I Loved Dearly (a oneshot about a husband and wife. Incredibly depressing but good read.)
And while this last one is not done yet, I personally think that “The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn’t a Guy at All” is a good read.
Does this answer your question? It might not be exactly what you asked but I tried to make as comprehensive a list as I could. Also I just wanted an excuse to share some of these honestly. Sorry if this answer came in super late, honestly I don’t get many notifications for tumblr for some reason. If you’re wondering why this list seems short it’s because I consume a lot and enjoy very little. You can see my anime and manga list where the good and bad get to sit together here: https://anilist.co/user/CrestCodeAGM/ for anyone curious as to what I get into.
After my last post, I must spread short post positivity. EVERYONE SHOULD DEFINITELY PLAY POCO ON STEAM(unless you’re color blind, then maybe don’t it’s pretty color based) IT’S FREE, THE CLOWN IN QUESTION IS FRIGGIN ADORABLE, THE STORY IS CUTE, AND I HAD A GREAT TIME EVEN THOUGH I DID GET A LITTLE LOST A FEW TIMES. I LOVE LITTLE CLOWN. LITTLE CLOWN SUPREMACY
Currently getting back into Ace Attorney after I got stuck on an investigation section 3 years ago and honestly…. I’d forgotten just how much I’d started hating this game. Like, I’m on the second case of the third game in the ace attorney trilogy and it actually sucks so much. They misuse double jeopardy, the judge flips on a dime despite the Prosecution never providing any evidence, and the defense is so heavily pressed that it stops actually being fun. I won’t spoil the twists of the case but man it’s so obnoxious because they didn’t bother making it a difficult case for the player to see through. It just makes it so that everyone else is super painfully stupid. I’m sure this has been a problem in the game for a while but this particular case is just getting on all of my nerves. They’d all be taken to court for mistrialing, (2 crimes I won’t specify but were done by the bad guy of the case), contempt, and assault.(despite popular belief, throwing hot coffee at the defense is totally a crime and I hate Godot. He’s not even conceited in a fun edgeworth way. He’s just full of himself and unable to back it up at all.)
Reading seven deadly sins starting today. Likely not going to be a good experience, but when I get far enough I’m going to rewrite it and soooo many of these characters are going to get erased from the timeline. Before reading, here are the ideas I had for changing the series with just the vague memories of the anime.
Meliodas: given legs of a less lacking length, not a predator, and instead just a dad who wants the break the curse on his kid who keeps fucking dying. He’s not happy about it at all. That line about keeping hands off his woman? Nonono. Keep your hands off my baby. I'll cut them off.
Liz(name subject to change): Meliodas' lover who went missing when Elizabeth and Meliodas got cursed. Pink hair, pronouns, and violence. She gets the "Bloody Liz" title, and Elizabeth ends up her peacemaker of a child. Supposedly an angel. Real demon of a lady though. Her death was faked by the other angels to cover up the fact that she was sealed. It got Meliodas to blow up an entire village.
Elizabeth: Meliodas’ half demon kid who just keeps fucking dying due to a curse that’s literally just there to make Meliodas absolutely miserable. A half angel. (partially only like this because I really didn’t like the idea of Tristan and any excuse to not to have him exist is an excuse I'll take... Plus I just think it sounds kind of interesting)
Ban: my brother said he seemed like the type to be into milfs… and honestly, I agree. So instead of a toddler in a sundress I just thought it’d be better for her to basically just be gelda. Also, somehow I’m gonna find out to bring that dead sister back up. Idk why they brought her up once and then literally
Elaine: just not a child anymore. Instead she's a fairy MILF. Shrimple.
King: I wasn't a big fan of all his weird forms so my final decision to avoid more child bs was that his secondary form would be that of a human and the regular form is that of generic teenager. he can get a proper adult form when he gets his wings I suppose.
Hawk: Shutting up.
Gowther: ...No longer Gowther. He needs an entirely knew character. Maybe he can keep the crossdressing but that's it.
Diane: Eh... less boy crazy. Maybe just big and aggressive about her found family. More clothes too. Same for all the female characters.
Merlin: No child form and no interest in meliodas.
Escanor: Not in love with Merlin and continuing to aura farm far into the future.
Yeah pretty much. Maybe I’ll make a post about how much this series sucks some time. It’s a great fanfic source though. That’s what happens when every character has the personality of a dry sponge.
You can almost always see a bad ending coming. It’s rarely out of nowhere. Spoilers for mha, jjk, onk, bleach, aot, and kny/ds
For years I’ve called super popular shows and such terrible and rarely am I not met with “you just hate it cause it’s popular and you want to be different” but like… every one of those shows that I said sucked balls ended in a way that pissed the fans off because it sucked. It didn’t come out of nowhere. Mha, Bleach, Jjk, Demon slayer, OSHI NO KO(I kept yelling that shit was not gonna go well and it didn’t), hell even AOT all had signs that their writers had no clue what they were doing.
In MHA it came though as horikoshi not knowing how to write characters or conflict(no shit if you can’t do either the ending isn’t gonna come through suddnely).
In Bleach it was the repetition(if you cannot figure out unique plot then it’s probably not gonna make for a good ending. I watched over 200 episodes of the anime and… idk just a lot of chapters of the manga and all it did was repeat different things.)
In JJK it was… really just about everything to me, but namely the exposition(they over explain powers, the monologue constantly, and they’re more tell than show. The ending ended up lacking substance according to fans. Can’t confirm. It was genuinely so boring and soul sucking that I could not get more than 66 chapters in. Which also means I gave it a fair shake. It just could not have been any less engaging to me. The guy who wrote it probably thought he was super smart and cool for killing everyone and making over-detailed power systems but in the end he fumbled the ending. Shocker that someone who doesn’t know how to write characters can’t write a story either.)
Demon slayer was built entirely on cliches with a lack of anything deeper than that.
Oshi no ko was born to fail. But the big thing for me was the characters were fucking stupid. (Predator edgelord wannabe Light Yagami(also a moron) mc. The more conceptually interesting Ai bites the dust to prop out the twins after becoming a teen mom by a deadbeat who gets her murdered. The deadbeat dad is unoriginal and crazy because something something sad backstory. The female characters are barely distinct to me. And Ruby, despite being the main character alongside her brother is hardly someone I cared about after reason 92 chapters of this dumpster fire. The authors shocking inability to make compelling characters or story really really showed when he completely and utterly fumbled the ending.)
Attack on titan was basic and then it just kinda fell apart plot wise (the introduction of the outside country was the end of everything. The introduction of basically an entire world of people who are basically all hitler and then trying and failing at justifying that wanting the entire world to bite it was evil and terrible was pretty much the downhill after that.)
My point is. That a lot of then had signs from start to finish that their endings would not be any better than the filler middle. The action and shiny distractions from the flaws all tend to just wash away at the end.
I watched alien stage… again. I didn’t like it… again.(spoiiilers)
Man… I tried. I avoided it for a like a month just for seeing how long it was and because I was worried I wouldn’t like it, much like how I felt about W(I can’t spell that). And I didn’t like it. I tried. Spent 8 minutes of my life to watch it. It didn’t feel… terribly coherent, felt hard to understand, and in the end it got the same reaction I gave the Digimon 02 ending. It felt like watching high quality fanfiction. Till lives somehow after visibly having multiple gashes cut in his neck (how’s that even work? The collar didn’t seem to be all that thick or even thick enough to have a cutting mechanism and it had no real reason not to be designed to cut his head off if it could cut or just poison him, or something similarly sure fire considering how ruthless the aliens have been.) (seriously what’s the killing apparatus in those things? Sua died almost instantly and till somehow gets a fuck ton of scars beyond the range of the tiny necklace he’s wearing) but somehow Hyuna dies to a single gunshot wound to the side. Yeah… everyone else’s deaths I could believe. Rock to the skull, neck cut open, a bullet (or was it 2?), and execution by firing squad. But somehow 10 new breathing holes is the limit to what’ll kill you. But the fanfic clone children out of complete left field was what really made my pupils kiss the back of eye sockets. And also Mizo bad now. I don’t get it. I really don’t. None of this makes any sense to me. It just… feels like a mess.
There’s nothing to structure like my last post. This just feels like someone cobbled together ideas for endings and then let it fly.(much like my posts!) I don’t even think it’s an issue of me not understanding alien stage as a whole. Before w(still can’t spell that title) I was pretty on board with the story. Past Ivan dying and the kiss. Past the introduction of the rebellion. But these last two? They really just didn’t work for me. I no longer care about till because of that pointless false death. I no longer care about Mizi because she freaked the fuck out and effectively did fuck all as far as I could tell. And I certainly never cared about Luka because they didn’t bother to make me care. But now they’re all that’s left besides the Star Wars disasters they introduced at the end of karma.
I do have to wonder how they got some of those samples though. Like in a burnt down building I somehow doubt blood samples(that would also have been hosed down by the people putting it out.) and with how many people got hurt it’d be a miracle that all those blood samples wouldn’t be contaminated with the blood of other people. I guess they could always be older blood samples… still feels out of nowhere though? Quite a few of those kids were visibly related but the cloning felt out of nowhere considering the original kids cast didn’t look like they were related and the only confirmed clone was Luka who solidly looked like the same crayon eating bitch in every iteration. I mean we know they had parents. That implies there’s other humans but who knows what happened to them. It’s kinda odd that they’d reuse the DNA of what had to have been their worst batch of contestants though. Suicidal, homicidal, suicidal and homicidal, and like 3 traitors. Maybe not the best set of people??? (Bit of a tangent)
Also, did anyone else notice the boy that looked like a cross between Luka, Hyuna, and Sua? Because neither Luka nor Hyuna have purple eyes. But Sua didn’t have brown skin and neither does Luka. And of course only one of them had yellow hair. Idk I just thought that was odd. He’s the only one that got a third blend which is weird for cloning. The other presumably Hyuna boy gets the big brows, hair, and till’s skin and eyes.(interestingly none of the darker skin) The till girl seems to have his hair and potentially someone else’s eyes. (Another swerving of the mind. I just can’t firm coherently how and why I didn’t like this experience.)
Also the fact that they keep bringing Hyunwoo back up is so fucking funny because his whole thing from start to finish is just “dead brother with no distinct traits”. He doesn’t get to be more that. He’s just a tragic backstory but they put him in there posted up with Hyuna and Luka like he’s part of the gang. He don’t matter. He matters about as much as that guy that till beat to death(not at all). He’s about as developed as Hyuna and Luka’s relationship or the concept of cloning in universe. He deserved to be a little more developed than he actually got. He’s more interesting in concept than Luka is in general. (For my Luka related rant, go check out my other alien stage post)
Also I guess this makes alien stage 0-3 for female characters. All of them are either dead or awol(elphaba behavior). Though as I type this I’m just now realizing there was only 3 female characters? Like beyond till’s mom and sua’s big sister(i think) (both characters who I don’t think were introduced in the main story.) There were really only 3 important girls? There’s I think 6(?) (hyunwoo, luka, till,Ivan, two grunt guys I didn’t learn the names of) boys. And out of the 6 I’m like 90% sure that 4 of them are still alive. The boys really are having a hell of a time.
And so… so far the payoff for all this death and fighting and plot has been: A wasted death(till cause they brought him back), an underdeveloped villain(Luka. Idc what you say he’s not a good guy.), and a bunch of clone kids straight off deviantart. Also Luka still never gets karma(ironic) beyond a walking Kirby punching his empty cranium again.
TLDR: I didn’t particularly like the digimon 02 reminiscent ending. And also I still think Luka is boring and sucks.
