Drunk Scene Aftermath (Dragon Age Veilguard)
Talked for a while with @tkwritesdumbassassins and @zealousdetectivegladiator about the drunk scene and I wanted more. I might post the whole thing at another point (because I did write an extended version), but this is just the aftermath part. Also tagging @imrowanartist because they wanted to read it. Happy reading and I hope I did them justice (this is the first time that I wrote Emmrich, Taash, and Neve)!
Pounding on Cassandra’s door wakes her up. The drumming against her skull is the first thing she takes stock of. “Shut up!” she shouts when the pounding continues, her raised voice making the pain worse.
She picks her head up and Emmrich’s in her doorway with a puzzled expression. “I only knocked twice,” he says. “Are you alright?”
“Uh… yeah. I’m sorry, Emmrich.”
“It’s quite alright, Rook. I’m more concerned about the fact that we were supposed to start that meeting an hour ago.”
She sits up, making her vision spin a little. “An hour? I’ll be out in a minute. I’m so sorry. Tell the others that I’m sorry.”
“Well, Davrin and Lucanis aren’t awake either. Taash left after twenty minutes of waiting on you all. The others have been chatting with me. Apparently Davrin had too much to drink and they had to help him up to his chambers.”
Cassandra bites down on her lip so she doesn’t start laughing. “Is Assan okay?”
“As far as I know, he’s with Davrin. Bellara is the one that went to check on him.”
“Yeah. Can you get a hold of Taash? We do need to have that meeting.”
Emmrich nods, then steps out and shuts the door. Cassandra slowly forces herself up and into new clothes. She closes her eyes and grips the banister of the stairs as she goes down, hoping that it will keep her from throwing up. She only ends up a little nauseous, so she calls it a win. The moment she’s out, she covers her eyes because it is far too bright. When she moves her hand, she spots Assan staring at her. “How’s your dad?” she asks.
Assan trots over and gently presses himself against her right side. She puts her hand on his head. He ends up walking her up to the kitchen, where Lucanis and Davrin are sitting at the main table, drinking coffee. Harding, Neve, and Bellara are sitting at the smaller table, whispering between them. Cassandra waves to them before going to the coffee. She drinks the first cup right next to the coffee, pouring a second as soon as she’s done. She tunes into the conversation as she walks to the table.
“You weren’t worried about Spite?” Davrin asks.
Lucanis barely shakes his head, “I learned that the pantry door has a lock yesterday. These locks are made to last, so someone would have heard if he broke it.”
Cassandra drops down in the chair next to Lucanis and puts her head on the table. “I’m never letting you two talk me into drinking with you again,” she says.
“It wasn’t that bad,” Davrin replies.
“There’s a reason we are so late for our own meeting. Drinking with you guys is too easy.”
“Crows are taught not to drink like that without company that you can trust your life with,” Lucanis answers for her. “Mostly that’s how they end up drinking alone or with other Crows.”
“I’ve never gotten drunk in front of someone before.”
“I’m flattered then,” Davrin says.
“Don’t be. She felt safe drinking in the room with Viago, the master of poison.”
“Viago’s a big softie,” Cassandra shoots back without a thought. “He wouldn’t poison me with something that would kill me.”
“Not he wouldn’t poison you?” Davrin asks.
“No, I’m sure he’s already done that,” Lucanis replies.
She picks her head up and sees Davrin’s shocked expression, “Yep. It’s so I could build up a tolerance.”
Davrin’s jaw hits the table as the door blows open, making all three of them flinch. Taash breezes in and pulls a chair up. “Why is your shirt on backwards, Davrin?”
He drops his head onto the table and Lucanis cringes, drinking more of his coffee. Cassandra picks her coffee up and sips it while the others get seated at the table.
“How did I not notice that?” Cassandra asks.
“Probably because you’ve only looked at his face before now,” Lucanis answers. “I noticed.”
Davrin punches Lucanis’ shoulder and gets a hiss in response.
“We should get started,” Neve says. “If you all are ready?”
“Wanna change your seat?” Harding asks.
Cassandra almost laughs. She didn’t sit at the head like she normally does for these meetings. “Nope, I’m good. I prefer sitting with you all anyway.”
(While this is all that I currently have, I like to think that they went on about their day after the meeting doing shenanigans together. At least Cassie and Davrin.)
