Google AI Overview court loss in Germany could spell doom for AI search industry.
"Google AI Overview court loss in Germany could spell doom for AI search industry."

"only 90s kids remember-" wrong, if you're poor and/or rural enough, old tech and fashion doesn't just disappear when it stops being trendy. We had dial-up until 2012
Connie clucks now! Well, it’s more like a honking noise, but I’m sure she’ll get better at it!
Why are cat farts the most noxious thing. I have smelled cecal poops from broody hens that have been holding it in for days. Somehow more bearable then getting drive by farted on by the cat.
A cozy home a cozy rouse!
The cherry blossom one was the first one I made, this one is the second. There is some imperfections but by doing these im learning a lot.
I do not understand people who use ai to generate 'fan'fics.
Actually, I don't understand anyone who uses ai, but if someone uses ai to generate a 'book' to sell, then at least I know they're doing it because they're a greedy bastard who wants to make money while stealing from actual artists.
But for the life of me, I cannot understand what the incentive is to use ai for fic. This is a hobby, you earn nothing from doing this except maybe some kudos and comments from people who didn't realize or don't care. But like. WHY?
I LOVE writing. It takes a lot of time, sure, and I'm usually bone-tired by the time I've finished a chapter, but I also feel a sense of happiness that I get nowhere else. I love the feeling of plotting out a story, bringing these characters I already love to life in a new way. And then I get to share it with everyone else who loves these characters and we can talk about them in comments and make jokes!
If you use ai, you might get the finished result you want in less time, but you're robbing yourself of so many chances to grow as a writer. I SUCKED at writing when I started writing fic, and now I'm pretty decent (in my own not-so-humble opinion). The final project isn't the goal, you can read a thousand books and fics and not be a better writer because learning to write is about the process-- getting into a character's mind, learning new ways to describe the world around you.
So if you use ai, not only are you stealing from actually passionate fans like myself, you're also stealing from yourself in the long term. Write fic. I would rather read a thousand shitty y/n stories than one technically 'good' ai written fic.
One of the things that irks my brain with social media is how people will just be loudly and proudly wrong or argumentative about the most inane stuff. The use of AI has only made this worse.
“Do dishes” and “take out trash” both require the use of a spell slot, vs “use phone” is a cantrip, and brother, I am a level one wizard

every so often i remember how awesome the modern interconnected multicultural world is. i grew up getting to hear fairy tales from all over the world. africa, asia, europe, america. everywhere in between. i can have bagels for breakfast, curry for lunch, and ramen for dinner without even leaving the city limits. music and art and philosophy and technology that originated thousands of miles and years apart from eachother have come together and interwoven into something greater than the sum of its parts. its hard not fall into despair when thinking about the horrors but god. god the wonders.
I feel so insane about ai. I've had face-to-face conversations with people who use it for therapy, who use it to calculate the safety of pill interactions, who use it for all their emails and grant applications and legal documents and academic papers and finance sheets and for every single question they have about the world, and if you tell them about the ecological costs they just laugh and say "I guess I've used a lot of water." and I've been in multiple gatherings of 10+ people where I'm THE ONLY PERSON who doesn't use chatgpt. it's turning me into a ranting raving pariah, because how don't you people see??? why don't you understand??????? this bullshit didn't exist five years ago, you absolutely do not need it, and it is destroying everything
my friend just had an art show and they were communicating with the gallerist over email. They could clearly tell that the gallerist was using AI to respond to their emails, but just rolled their eyes and moved on.
and then on the day of the show, my friend asks, "where is the camera I requested?"
gallerist: "you didn't request a camera"
my friend: "I did, and you confirmed that you would have one here."
gallerist: "that isn't true."
and then she proceeded to pull up the email thread, and my friend could see that every single email they had sent had been summarized by AI, and that the gallerist had then had AI write a response to them based on the AI summary, and that the AI had detected that they needed a camera, and confirmed on behalf of the gallerist that they would bring a camera, but because the gallerist had offloaded the work of actually reading and responding, she simply hadn't actually made any note of it herself, therefore didn't bring it, nor did she even know one was needed.
so my friend had done all of this communication about their needs and expectations to be able to make the show possible, and the person whose job it was to read that information and get it done had simply.... not read the information and not done it. because AI.
"do it scared" gets exhausting when you're The Fearful Afraider and everything is scary even when you're in your 30s
