“The way it’s set up now, if you’ve played one shift in the NHL you will get a family doctor. If you played one shift in the NHL you get a mental health wellness professional for you, your wife and your kids,” Healy said. As impressive as that may be, it runs far deeper than that. For those who played 400 games, they’ll receive dental and prescription eyewear coverage too. And for former players who haven’t reached that threshold and can’t afford the healthcare that they need, the League and NHLPA have established a slush fund for those, as Healy puts it, “in financial distress or find themselves in catastrophic situations.”

I have to say, genuinely, unironically, connor bedard saying that his mom can juggle for the stupid little mothers day segment really endeared him to me. Like it's funny and it's really not that deep but like. It shows that he views her as a person outside of just what she does for him. Most of these guys when asked what's something you love or something that's cool about your mom they say "oh she's done so much for me... without her I wouldn't be where I am today" and that's a nice sentiment. But. He said something about her that has nothing to do with himself. I just like that

when a woman points out that sports fans hate women and sports leagues hate women and athletes hate women people will often go "just watch women's sports" and it's a stupid fucking response every single time

women should be respected in every single sports space, none of these structural issues are solved by just ... sending them somewhere else + the way people say this always comes across as demeaning; watching womens sports is worthwhile on its own, it shouldn’t be prescribed as exile for women who notice that the wider sports world hates them
