what she means: tschick is one of the first, if not the first, time in (recent) german cinematic history that a movie's main character is a non-white, non-straight boy. german media is incredibly white and straight and if we do have gay characters their sexuality usually revolves around tragedy or how the straight people in their life feel about it. tschick comes out to maik and it doesn't get treated as a "ewww, what if he hits on me?" moment or a gay tragedy. i love my gay son andrej tschichatschow and he deserves only the best.
