Late night thoughts and I thought about how Scott and Shelby are more used to lighthearted roleplaying which is probably why their vampires characters feel so "shallow" and "unsatisfying" when taking in consideration of how lore heavy vampires smp is

Comparing them to Owen and Apo, who are very much used to doing heavy lore and complex worldbuilding, it's quite clear you can see the gap of how the players played the angst-driven lore-heavy server^^'

Looking at how the fandom sees Scott I noticed how one half treats him as the "sassy vampire who's just numb to his actions", which is built upon his own pov and how he does "evil villain" characters, and the other half actually weighing how messed up and "shallow" his character felt, looking at how his actions caused significant damage to a majority of the other characters and seemingly just being dismissive of them while getting his own happy ending with little to no consequences at all

Very interesting to think about

I was literally just talking about this! Some ccs were doing a silly Minecraft roleplay and others were doing a horror campaign. And it some cases the contrast worked really well! Like, Scott’s Disney villain sort of vibe in his POV versus the very real damage he’s doing to people like Pyro and Apo shows how apathetic and out-of-touch he is regarding the cruelty of his own actions. Similarly, Shelby’s deliberately lighter storytelling shows the rose-tinted glasses she wears and her refusal to acknowledge the horror of her situation.

However, sometimes that dissonance… kinda damages the story. We see this especially with the contrasting endings in the finale, but I think it also shows in episode 6 with the defection of the town vampires. I think it’s also responsible for some of the disagreements in the fandom (ex. Was Scott really that bad? Did he manage to redeem himself? A Scott main will have a vastly different answer than an Apo main!)
