I remember reading Young Avengers for the first time a few years ago. One thing in particular that struck me as odd was the conversation about Billy changing his codename because it would become, in Kate's words, a "national joke once the press finds out about [him] and Teddy".
And I remember wondering what the joke was. I could not for the life of me figure out what the name 'Asgardian' had to do with him being gay. And it was implied to be obvious. And I would see people online mention it as though it were obvious.
Person A: Why did Billy change his codename from Asgardian to Wiccan? Person B: He was worried people would make puns regarding his sexuality. Person A, probably: Awesome. No further explanation needed. I understand this perfectly.
And then one day OUT OF NOWHERE, fairly recently, actually, it just clicked. Like. Oh. That's why.
