Murdermedia fic. Vincent thinks he's the clever protagonist in an action-filled noir. Alastor thinks he's an antagonist in a southern gothic novel. Little do they know they're in a dramedy

Alastor is actually quite tech savvy. He was at the cutting edge of technology back in the 30s, and his understanding of the fundamentals enables him to figure out how most things work. He provides the Hotel's WiFi. He refuses to explain how he does it. We saw that he's capable of video editing and presumably using a computer. He can probably place a call remotely with his radio creature abilities. He just hates anything new and is thoroughly convinced that technology peaked in the 1930s and most new developments are unnecessary nonsense, so he refuses to use modern things unless he has to. He is known for being good with tech when it comes to older overlords, though. Zestial enlisted his help to figure out how to use a cellphone back in 2003 when Carmilla got him one. Neither of them ever talk about this incident because Zestial doesn't want to admit to owning a cellphone and Alastor doesn't want to admit that he's good at using one.

I find it so interesting that Angel Dust and his family are all named after drugs. It makes sense for them to have a familial connection based on what we know about Angel's family, that they're a mafia family during the golden age of the dons in NYC. But the thing is: mafiosos didn't typically like to deal in drugs. During the 1930s and 1940s, when Angel was alive, it was one of the things the mafia typically preached against. Did people do it? Obviously. But a lot of the high-level bosses turned a blind eye to it or were just unaware, because it was "junk" or "dirty business." Some famous dons of the time looked down on this type of crime a lot, at least until the late 1960s (ish), when they wanted money and all the old-school people were dead so they started dealing drugs.

But Angel was long dead by then. Did his family just not care about that particular bit? And if they didn't, did they face any issues because of it?

also i might draw more of this au in the future as i already have all of the characters planned out! currently thinking vaggi as eurydice, the vees as the fates, and lilith/lucifer as hades/persephone (not sure who's who here tbh. more so leaning towards lilith as hades because she'll look rad as fuck)

happy pride! remember that being a transgender is everything but fiction. there are so many real historical figures from every century about whose transgenderism we aren't even aware of

on this picture i drew Alexandr Andreevich Alexandrov - cavalry officer of the russian imperial army that participated in napoleonic wars. people persistently keep on misgendering mispronounsing deadnaming and calling him a crossdresser although alexandrov clearly stated that he didn't want to be called by his deadname and being treated like anything but a man. that's an interesting historical figure and i wanted to draw attention to his person. i can't tell everything about him in only one post so i recomend you to read about alexandrov by yourself

Someone mentioned how they were having a hard time creating a world for their fantasy fiction geographically because they kept reinventing the island of Britain, which also happened to my good close enemy George R. R. Martin. I would like to suggest North Carolina. I know that sounds absolutely ridiculous but North Carolina has an awesome geographic setup for a fantasy kingdom, I think. Inhospitable barrier islands, constantly shifting shoals in the sound, swamps with alligators, venomous snakes and carnivorous plants, lots of very flat and somewhat sparsely populated farmland, foothills, mines, mountains full of mysterious phenomenon that were originally very difficult to navigate and people still get lost in today. It kind of rocks.

There are actually 36 carnivorous plant species native to North Carolina, roughly half of all carnivorous plant species in the United States are found in North Carolina! I added the carnivorous plant detail because that’s something I love about the state. We have so many fucking bugs that the plants keep evolving to eat them.

I love that giant man eating Venus flytraps are worldbuilding staples in untamed tropical fantasy settings but they’re actually native to a small region in the Carolinas.

And I agree with the notes, the Chesapeake Bay + Great Dismal Swamp (partially in NC anyway) and the South Carolina Lowcountry would be good geographic additions to this.
