The five trainees had spent years preparing for debut and became somewhat close with Cortis during their trainee days, with yn and Martins relationship growing slowly. There wasn’t much to see, just a few promo photos, group pictures, and random dumps from the past few months. His thumb moved absentmindedly across the screen until one particular photo made him stop. Martin immediately scrolled back up. There, tucked between a studio picture and a random photo of food, was a very interesting image. It featured Ryul and a very special lady. Who was this mystery girl, you ask? None other than yn herself. Martin stared at the photo for a moment, his eyebrows furrowing. The picture looked way too casual to be work related. Ryul comfortably sitting next to yn while she worked on the laptop, completely unbothered by his presence. “Okay what the” martin muttered under his breath.

“Okay, but can we all agree this is complete bullshit?” Martin groaned, slouching further into the couch. “Okay, I mean, yeah,” James replied as he walked into the living room, “but come on. Debut was never guaranteed, you know?” “James is right,” Keonho added from across the room. “Even our debut a couple months ago wasn’t promised either.” Martin immediately shook his head. “That’s not the point. They were a week away from debut. A week.” The room went quiet. Everyone knew he was right. LUMIÉ wasn’t some trainee project that had barely started, they’d already filmed content, finished preparations, and were practically at the finish line. “I just don’t get how they can do that,” Martin muttered, rubbing a hand over his face. “Imagine working for years just for it to disappear right before it finally happens.” Nobody had an answer for that. The atmosphere in the apartment felt heavier than usual as the reality of it settled in. With an annoyed sigh, Martin pushed himself off the couch. “Whatever.” He headed toward the kitchen in search of a snack, opening cabinets as the conversation continued behind him. Even as the others talked, he couldn’t stop thinking about LUMIÉ. A week ago they were preparing to debut, and now it was like they never existed at all.
A couple months later
A few months had passed since LUMIÉ’s cancellation, and by now life had mostly gone back to normal. Cortis had settled into their schedules, the shock had worn off, and the name LUMIÉ had slowly become something nobody really talked about anymore. One afternoon the dorm was unusually quiet until Juhoon suddenly sat up from where he’d been scrolling on his phone. “Yo, what?” he blurted out, immediately catching everyone’s attention. “What happened?” Keonho asked. Juhoon let out a laugh and turned his screen toward them. “Jay Park just debuted a boy group.” That was enough to get both Keonho and Seonghyeon off the couch as they crowded around the phone, scrolling through clips, tweets, and fan posts about a group called LNGSHOT. “That’s actually insane,” Keonho muttered. “They debuted like yesterday.” “And they’re already everywhere,” Seonghyeon added.
From his spot across the room, Martin only half listened to the conversation until he heard Juhoon say, “Honestly, the song’s kinda good.” That finally got his attention. A few minutes later, after the others had moved on to talking about something else, Martin pulled out his own phone and searched the group up. They really were everywhere. Every other post on his feed seemed to be about LNGSHOT, and after seeing the same song for what felt like the tenth time that day, he finally gave in and clicked on it. The track started playing through his headphones as he absentmindedly scrolled through the song information. Then his thumb stopped.
For a moment he thought he’d read it wrong. He blinked and looked again, his stomach suddenly dropping. Sitting there among the credits was a name he hadn’t seen in months, a name he never expected to see again. Producer, yn.
