and if i said nolan's odyssey starring no greek actors and with no recognizable aspects of greek culture or involvement by greeks, is the direct legacy of white supremacist colonialism that treated ancient greece as not just the pinnacle of ancient culture, but of an artificially created "european" culture, which white western europeans and their settler descendants, as the new pinnacle of culture, were the sole spiritual inheritors of.
^^^ PEOPLE ARE STILL THERE. There's a metro station across the street from the colosseum where i found a hair in my pizza slice. We drove by ruins of an amphitheater next to a motorway in greece once. It's literally just real places where real people live and have lived. It's not mythical perfect lands that once existed. I went to Itacha in 2023 and there was not enough parking space.
ITALY AND GREECE AREN'T CEMETERIES!!! Greece especially deserves far more support than it gets!!!
⚡COMING TO KICKSTARTER IN 2027⚡ 📜Lockettopia: The Trojan War Cycle📜
"CYPRIA 11: ACHILLES RAIDS THE TROAD"
For nine brutal years Achilles and his Myrmidons ravage the surrounding towns of the Troad, beginning with the sacrilegious killing of the Trojan prince Troilus at the sanctuary of Apollo, sealing the god's undying hatred. Achilles raids Mount Ida, captures the prince Lycaon by night and sells him into slavery, sacks city after city including Hypoplacian Thebes where he kills Andromache's father and seven brothers, takes the priest's daughter Chryseis as a gift for Agamemnon, and burns Lyrnessus, killing the family of the noblewoman Briseis before claiming her as his own concubine.

The Trojan War Cycle brings together The Iliad, The Odyssey, and surviving poem fragments of the Epic Cycle: The Cypria, Aethiopis, Little Iliad, Iliou Persis, Nostoi, and Telegony, to reconstruct the full myth in sweeping, chronological order. Kickstarter Link in bio/linktree

I wish general society acknowledged that "boy moms" are often incredibly abusive. They are controlling and manipulative and they often isolate their sons (and daughters, boy moms are deeply misogynistic) from other family members, friends, and especially romantic partners. There is a reason why so many men who grew up with "boy moms" struggle to stand up to their mothers even as adults with partners and children of their own; it's because years and decades of emotional abuse and manipulation make it extremely difficult to both stand up to your abuser AND to even recognize it as abuse in the first place, especially when your abuser has spent your entire life telling you that they're the only person on your side and everyone is out to get her.
This isn't a justification for the way that these men treat their own partners and children and put them below their moms, but I really think we need to talk about this like the abuse it is and recognize that it's extremely difficult to move past abuse and trauma when you don't even have those words to explain your experiences.
(Do NOT tag this as narcissistic abuse; linking abuse with disorders instead of behaviors is ableist and makes it incredibly difficult for people to get mental health care and talk about their experiences with their illnesses. Most abusers don't have NPD and most people with NPD are totally fine and wonderful friends, partners, and parents.)
"Why do so many men put up with their moms manipulating them/pushing aside their partners/taking over their weddings/etc?"
The same reason why so many adults brush off their dad beating them as kids. The same reason why so many women don't bat an eye at how controlling their boyfriends and husbands are. Because that abuse is normal to them and it is painful and difficult to recognize how awful it really is, especially when the abuse is coming from someone that you love and don't want to hurt.
as much as everyone loves "the power of love won't save us, we need the power of incredible violence" i'm sorry to rain on your parade but we've actually tried that about ten million times as a species, and you'll be shocked to hear the power of incredible violence, without the power of love behind it, is just brutality. the power of incredible violence has been ruling (various parts of, and then the entire) world for the past 5,000 years. ours is not that damn special.
like yes use that gun you found but WHY are you using it? on who are you using it? what would make you stop using it? is your goal to live in a world where every problem is solved by violence, or is your goal to do the violence necessary to live in a world where that necessity is unthinkable?
#I'm a pacifist so I don't necessarily believe every word of this post but it actually makes an amazing point#everyone take a moment to think about this /light-hearted
on the subject of pacifism, if you are interested: i consider myself what i would call a preferential pacifist. i think we should always hold peace and non-violence as a moral preference, meaning we should always choose it when it viably leads to a better world, or the least-violent choice that is viable, and when we do choose violence we must make further decisions that allow us to eventually choose peace again.
i think sometimes violence is necessary to uphold greater moral values, including peace, but ultimately it should be something we are forced to do to some extent, and we should only do it while actively looking for other options.
I only hate what I hate because I have so much love for people within me.
Also on the topic of Pacifism, I do recommend thinking about the theories of violence and what all violence encompasses. I'm not even trying to be condescending, this is a topic as broad as it is deep and understanding violence is a daunting task.
As I'm want to do I'll recommend a podcast and a specific episode.
We dive deep into German Walter Benjamin's seminal essay 'Towards A Critique of Violence' to try and understand violence not only as a pheno
I think a lot about this kind of thing.
we need to take the time to have these conversations with very young people. we need to be willing to earnestly ask what they've observed that is leading them to ask the question, to get a better sense of where and how these valuations are being socially reproduced in their life.
when adults avoid teaching kids about systems of power (misogyny, racism, etc.) kids still absorb these social lessons, they just do so without the context they need to not internalize socially constructed hierarchies (i.e. sexgender, race) as natural facts about the world.
you cannot protect someone by denying them information about these topics. but you can give someone tools to navigate these systems thoughtfully by offering more context and helping them understand their observations of social interactions.

IDK I think if cis men are being told that being fat will lower their testosterone and make them Insufficiently Masculine, and cis women are being told that being fat will raise their testosterone and make them Excessively Masculine, and fat trans people are being denied the right to medically transition if they're fat, and thin trans people are warned against HRT because it will make them fat (and this is said about both testosterone and estrogen HRT), and androgynous-presenting people are told that only thin people count as androgynous...
Then maybe...
Maybe...
Maybe the weight loss industry is just using Gender to enforce fatphobia.
