Archeologist 20,000 years after horses go extinct: *cries* I don’t
I agree with the message but?! this is tone deaf coming from one of the elitist, most prestigious fashion events in the world. you are rich to even be invited, an event where the ticket is literally $30,000…. I’m gonna eat YOU
None of you people understand the actual reality of how much the ultra-rich hoard. Aoc is not even a blip on the radar of rich. Aoc grew up poor in the bronx and continued to work as a bartender while she was on the campaing trail.
Is she wealthier than the average person? Yeah. No shit sherlock. But does she qualify…as RICH?? My fam…my guy….my bud…..the answer is simply No.
Aoc wants to tax the 1%. The people who can afford to buy space programs, influence elections and send countries to war.
She is not referring to…like….lil nas x here. Shes referring to jeff fucking bezos.
Please learn the difference between BEING WEALTHY (aoc) and being RICH (bezos, gates, etc)
Also this is just a classic case of the left trying to eat itself.
Some of you really need to ask why you’re trying to drag one of the most progressive American politicians for this. I mean for one, if any of us could afford to go we would, let’s not pretend lol. But secondly, damned if she does damned if she doesn’t right? If AOC attended and didn’t have a political statement, she’d be dragged. If she attended and did, she’d be dragged. If it came out that she had the opportunity to use her platform to make a statement at the event and she refused, she’d be dragged.
Some of you really think you’re achieving something by helping the right dunk on progressive figures for literally nothing, when AOC is the one who bothered to run for her position and put in the work and is sticking her neck out. Tumblr and Twitters love of dragging progressives who actually do the work is embarrassing. You all know rightists don’t care if you cancel them so you spend your time picking at the actions of the most progressive voices doing the work, from behind your screen.
AOC actually thought she was going to die when the Capital was stormed because she’s the figurehead of progressive politics, and you think you’re better than her because she went out and did something fun for once?
Politicians are often invited to the Met Gala. As AOC herself said, “BEFORE anybody starts wilding out - NYC elected officials are regularly invited to and attend the Met due to our responsibilities in overseeing our city’s cultural institutions that serve the public. I was one of several in attendance.” Anna Wintour will often invite people to the Met Gala who she thinks will make it look good, and who don’t have to pay for their ticket. AOC also made sure her hair, makeup, and dress were all done by BIPOC/women/LGBT folks. Y’all are so quick to hate on anyone, you don’t even stop to check your facts, or how many of the sources criticizing AOC are legit blogs. This is how y’all get swayed by trollbots without even knowing it. And you def don’t check yourselves and how eager you are to tear down a WOC in a position of power.
Frankly, there’s a really absurd dichotomy in terms of class issues I frequently see on here where people fully acknowledge that our society is unfairly structured in a way that sees wealth and power automatically go hand-in-hand, yet we blame individuals who have reached positions of power but are trying to challenge that overall structure because the system is still benefitting them. But… of course it is? Like, that’s the point. You can’t escape that system unless it’s actually torn down. You don’t really get to opt out of it—that’s the whole problem. For example, the discourse will state that landlords are evil, but then also say “fuck the owning class,” which means the only way you can not be evil is to… [checks notes] pay more than a mortgage to give all your money to an evil person every month, because the system doesn’t allow for any in-between right now. Like, you can say housing should be a basic human right and I agree with you, but… that doesn’t change the system automatically. The issue is not that some people buy homes for themselves instead of paying obscene amounts to landlords, the issue is that we shouldn’t have a system where housing is related to income in the first place.
The point is trying to dismantle the systems that breed unfair income inequality and disadvantage people, not acting shocked and betrayed when the system does what it’s designed to do for a person who doesn’t like the system in the first place. AOC isn’t betraying her values by using the Met Gala as a platform for her message (when she didn’t even a buy a ticket); she’s making a point about having access to it in the first place and what that means about our societal failures.
Also, I have a hard time believing people aren’t being kind of racist when they consistently call out WoC specifically for treating themselves to anything nice that they happen to be able to afford. You can’t say our society unfairly disadvantages WoC and turn around and say a brown woman who enjoys one night out or buys a nice handbag is a class traitor. So what, all WoC should just wear rags? They should stay at the bottom of the pyramid at all times for the sake of the revolution and never enjoy anything at all until anarcho-communism has washed over the land? Give me a break.
my fave thing about being alive is that there is nothing that cannot be learned. tapestry weaving, astrophysics, swimming. music, theremin, singing. cutting your own hair, dancing, quantum mathematics. sewing, philosophy, social skills. knowledge is divine, but sharing it is human !!!

Also, one of Ocasio-Cortez's big things is buying from artists/fashion designers who are involved in their community and actively promote culture that is often left behind in fast fashion (like when y'all slammed her for that bag). The dress was made by Aurora James. Now, I don't know SHIT about fashion but uuuuh, knew I heard the name somewhere. Here's just the first paragraph of her wiki article. By all means, go read the rest.
Additionally, she didn't pay for the ticket or the dress. The designer made the dress, bought the ticket, and invited her to attend wearing the dress. The met gala is basically an event where celebrities become billboards for designers. AOC showed up to an event full of filthy rich people wearing a dress by an activist designer that says "tax the rich" on it.
AOC is not rich. Her salary is 175,000 a year. That's literally upper middle class.
was anyone going to tell me that king arthur flour is an 100% employee-owned benefit corporation or were you just going to let me keep using their recipes without buying their flour
Bob's Red Mill is Employee Owed as well!! Upon Bob's death, he gave the Employees ownership. Good man, that Bob.
This post gave me a heart attack and made me google like crazy. Bob’s NOT dead! He still works there in his 90s. He’s a local celeb, and I’ve met him a handful of times at the restaurant where he eats almost every day, wearing that red vest and cap, giving out coupons to kids. It’s 100% employee owned but he didn’t like, leave it to them in his will. He’s always cared about his employees and he set up a Employee Store Ownership Plan in 2010. His story of how and why he founded the company is awesome. NPR did a podcast on him a couple years ago that’s worth a listen! https://www.npr.org/2018/05/17/612108005/bobs-red-mill-bob-moore
In the 1960s, Bob Moore read a book about an old grain mill and was inspired to start his own. Using giant quartz stones from the 19th centu
I was worried there for a minute. I just saw Bob a few months ago. King Arthur (which just rebranded and is not King Arthur Baking Company) is an amazing company that is not only employee owned and a great source for baking help, but very committed to supporting charities like the ACLU.
The responsible company baking trifecta: Bob's Red Mill King Arthur Baking Penzey's Spices All three companies have responsible politics and an employee-centric business model. Make delicious things and support good companies!

How can you call for police to be defunded AND demand stricter gun control laws? How will those laws be enforced with an underfunded police force?
1) See above how "defund the police" works.
2) The ATF exists.
3) People with mental illnesses shouldn't be able to get guns as readily as they can. Guns should be treated like cars. Cars can be dangerous when used in the wrong way and become dangerous depending on the impairment of the driver. We need liability insurance for gun owners and a mental aptitude test for licensure.
