Chapter 2: Ice Cream Date
Notes: There is a conversation about Angie being from another country/island. While there is nothing offensive, and I did not name a specific country since she has no confirmed country of origin. Just thought I list this as a note in case anyone may find it uncomfortable to read.
The two young girls walk around a local town looking at various stores and restaurants. The white hair girl soon asks a question, βSo, what kind of treat are you looking for to help thy spirits?β The black hair girl feeling even more confused decides to ask her own questions, βOk first off, who even are you? Why are you helping me? And why do you keep talking like that?β The white girl stops skipping in her tracks, βWhoopsee, did I never give you my name? My most humble apologies. I am Angie Yonaga, a messenger of God, and I am only helping you in your time of need.β The black hair girl looks at her with a displeased face and replies with, βOk then. Well, my name is Tenko Chabashira. You didnβt answer my last questionβ Angie gives a puzzled look and replies with, βOh Tenko? That is such an interesting name. Do you mean my speech patterns? It is just the way I talk.β Tenko soon replies with a befuddled look, βSigh whatever. Hey you know youβre supposed to address me by my last name right? Weβre not even friends.β Angie gives a slightly sad expression, βAwwww, are we not friends?β Tenko starts to sweat a bit, βAh, I mean, we only just met about a couple of minutes ago. Why would you even act so friendly towards someone like me? Are you pitying me?β Angie soon feels concerned over Tenkoβs comment and says, βOh, I am sorry, am I overstepping my boundaries? I just could not leave you crying after witnessing such a sad moment.β Tenko feels startled as she asks, βOh, so you saw everything that happened with that stupid boy?β Angie responds with nodding her head up and down. Tenko sighs with exasperation as she states, βLook you donβt have to feel pity for me, itβs not like it was that bad anyways.β Angie responds with, βAw, but you were crying so much.β Tenko becomes embarrassed scratching her head as she expresses, βThat was just in the moment, Iβm over it now.β Angie becomes disappointed and states, βOh really? Well I was just about to offer you ice cream to help lift your spirits.β Tenko becomes surprised and then responds with, βOh ice cream? Well actually that sounds pretty good right about now.β Angie reacts with excitement and proclaims, βOh? Then how about we go get it, I know the most perfect place!β Tenko responds with approval, βHeh alright, but you donβt need to offer to buy me anything.β Angie shakes her head and states, βAw do not worry, it is no trouble. Come, take a seat.β
Angie and Tenko stop to sit down at a small outdoors ice cream shop called, the Fruity Parlor. They both pick up menus and observe the options provided as Angie asks, βSo what are you in the mood for?β Tenko gives a small frown as she replies with, βAt least let me buy you something too if youβre gonna be so nice to me.β Angie expresses with joy, βOh no no no, I cannot consume too much dairy as it can give me a stomachache and gain weight.β Tenko gives her a smug smile as she responds with, βOh really? Then how you do know this is the most perfect place for ice cream?β Angie feels slightly embarrassed as she exclaims, βWhoopsee, guess I am, guilty as charged, as they say.β Tenko gives off small chuckles as she glances back at the menu, βWell this blueberry surprise sounds pretty good, what about you?β Angie studies the menu with wonder as she cites, βOh the lemon meringue has always been my favorite.β Tenko cracks a small smile as a waitress comes by to take the two girlsβ orders and leaves. Angie notices Tenkoβs new expression as she points out, βAww Tenko, it looks like you are already feeling better, I am glad!β Tenko becomes shocked as she lifts her head up to say, βWha-what? Jeez come on, whatβs with you? Didnβt I tell you you suppose to address me by my last name?β Angieβs face turns puzzled as she inquires, βEh, am I supposed to do that? I guess I am still not familiar with the customs here.β Tenko starts to feel bewildered as she asks, βNot familiar? Are you not from around here Yonaga?β Angie appears nervous as she answers with, βOh, were you able to tell?β Tenko tenses up a bit as she expresses, βUm, well itβs just you have an odd way of talking and you donβt seem to be native here, uh no offense.β Angie face changes to an anxious look as she taps her index fingers together to convey, βOh it is alright, I am used to it. But you are correct, my family and I come from an island far away from Japan. We had just recently moved here a year ago.β
As the two girls exchange words, the waitress comes to serve them with their desired ice cream orders. Angie quickly turns ecstatic clasping her hands together as she expresses, βOoooo! At last, I am excited!β Tenkoβs expression slightly changes to a similar mood while feeling a bit guilty. βHeh, yea Iβd like to dig in too.β As the two enjoy their sweet delectables, Tenko with a sorrow expression on her face decides to apologize with, βHey Yonaga, Iβm sorry if I was being invasive with you, Iβve been in such a bad mood since you met me.β As Angie was joyously eating her dessert, she reacts with, βOh, it is alright Te- I mean Chabashira, I am not mad. I was simply answering your questions.β Tenko becomes dismayed over Angieβs quick acceptance of her apology as she conveys, βYou know, you donβt have to be so easy to accept what I say to you. I have been pretty rude to you since we started talking.β Angie gives her a reassuring smile as she states, βOh no no no, it is quite alright, I hold no grudges. God tells me it is a sin to be vengeful towards others.β Tenko feels troubled as she inquires a question, βHeh you seem to bring up God a lot. Are you religious or something?β Angie gives off a curious tone as she communicates, βOh why of course! My family and I have always been devoted followers to God. It is our duty to spread his message to others.β Tenko establishes a concerning expression and follows up with, βOh, is that the reason why youβre even talking to me? Are you trying to convert me?β Angie notices Tenkoβs reluctance on the subject matter as she communicates to her, βOh no, it was not my intention at first. I really did want to lend a hand helping to your needs.β Tenko gives off a sigh of relief as she proclaims, βOh alright, if you say so. The saying is βa helping hand in needβ by the way.β Angie shows a look of interest as she verbalizes, βAh I see I see. Thank you!β
The two girls soon finish their helpings of tasty treats and after they both pay for each othersβ orders, they continue their conversation for a bit. Angie grasps her hands together to rest her head on them and starts off with, βI hope this outing was enough to help take your mind off of that experience.β Tenko expresses with a more uplifting tone, βHeh I do feel a lil better now. Thanks Yonaga, I appreciate your efforts in helping me.β Angie replies with a joyful face, βOh it is no biggie for me.β Angie looks over Tenkoβs shoulder and notices a clock ticking 10 minutes to 5 pm and states, βOh perhaps we can talk again another time? I need to get going to home.β Tenko gives off a look of disappointment as she says, βDang already? Well alright, it was nice chatting with you.β As Angie stands up to pick up her school bag, she departs with, βAh yes, I also enjoyed our time together.β Angie starts to run past her until Tenko stops her briefly to give her some information, βHey wait, if you wanna pick back up, you can find me by the gym regularly at school.β Angie shows an eccentric look as she replies with, βOh, why thank you Ten- Chabashira, I look forward to next time. Sayonara!β Angie waves as she rushes back home. Tenko waves back and responds with, βBye Yonaga.β Tenko is left sitting alone at the parlor table as she thinks to herself, βHm, strange girl. Definitely not who I was expecting to spend Valentineβs Day with. Sigh guess I wonβt be able to get my money back on those chocolates. Aw well.β Tenko stands up and places her school case over her right shoulder, βGuess I better get back home too.β She mutters to herself as she starts walking back in the opposite direction of where Angie ran off.
