This is how I feel about everything I do in my life. Armistead Maupin is one of the finest American writers of the last fifty years, and his Tales of the City sequence is an astonishing view of life mostly in San Francisco since the 1970s. Gay, Lesbian, Trans, Bi, and straight characters, in a novel sequence of astonishing immediacy (immediate because the first half dozen books were written as weekly instalments in a daily newspaper).

Currently it’s a sequence of nine books. You can also get them in some places in three collections of three books each.
