I JUST GOT A FOLLOW FROM TUMBLR USER @darkcheshire7 BUT I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY SINCE HER BLOG DOESN’T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH MINE

Well, that’s probably cause I followed you from one my side accounts and since tumblr doesn't make a difference from accounts under the same email they all get mushed together. And I like compartmentalizing my interests

So, here’s a list of my other accounts so you can find the one that looks more like a blog you’d follow:

1. @imaginesuperheroes this blog is all about DC, Marvel, Doctor Who, Star Wars, tv shows with a 40 minute length per episode and maybe spy movies and similar stuff. I call it the “action blog”. This is the one I use most on normal circumstances 

2. @isdreamingfree is about music. Mainly Paramore, but twenty one pilots, dodie and Halsey also make appearances sometimes. Sometimes, if I’m feeling funky, Taylor Swift also shows up. And not so much now but I had my Queen phase.

3. @9544peralta is about sitcoms and tv shows with a 20 minute length per episode. Mainly Brooklyn Nine Nine, but The Good Place and others also make appearances. In here there’s also tv shows with a 40 minute length per episode that aren’t about “action” and are more about life stuff, like Gilmore Girls 

4. @justpedropascal I think the name is pretty explanatory, but recently I developed an unhealthy obsession on a certain Mandalorian and I thought my “action blog” was getting too crowded with it, so I created this one in which I vent my thoughts about this man

5. Also, I used to have a Dan and Phil blog but that interest has died down a bit (since they aren’t active much anymore) so anything about them goes in here or in the “action blog”

6. Finally this one, darkcheshire7. It was born like the action blog, but then it got weird and I started compartmentalizing so in here there’s random stuff about life and things I find interesting or funny

Jeanne d’Arc’s last name is d’Arc.  An overly-literal translator insisted it stood for “of Arc”, and that’s why we know her as Joan of Arc.  At the time, she was more commonly known as “Jeanne la Pucelle”, meaning “Joan the Maiden” or “Joan the Virgin”.

I've read a lot of fics and posts about Rocky imitating some of Grace's body language or phrases, but I haven't seen nearly ENOUGH about Grace being the one to copy Rocky.

Grace tapping or stomping twice to signal a question.

Grace doing the jazz hands.

Grace doing that thing when Rocky is counting that he uses his fingers (even if Grace isn't actually counting with them, he picks up the gesture)

Give me Grace being a weirdo and walking on all fours like Rocky. Rocky thinks it's hilarious how slow he is like that.

Give me Grace subconsciously copying random noises Rocky makes (not the words, but his equivalents to "ooohhh"s and "ahhhh"s and "hmmmm"s) because if there's something I've noticed about humans, it's that if we spend long enough with someone, we start mimicking each other. Hell, even with animals it happens! You've ever noticed that cat owners have entire meow-ing conversations with their cats? With dogs it happens too. Or that when parrots do their bobbing dances, a lot of us start copying that? And their chirping too. I like that a lot. I'd like to see Grace doing that.

*hits the joint* In the Harry Potter universe, Merlin is canonically a Hogwarts alumni and a Slytherin, which is impossible because Merlin predates the existence of Hogwarts by centuries. He’s also referred to as a warlock in BBC Merlin, if I remember correctly. Those three words are used interchangeably in English though they have slightly different connotations and they mean different things in some fantasy series. Because his character and his lore originated in Middle Welsh and Old French literature, his powers, the language used to describe him and even what he is can vary greatly across Arthurian literature. Some sources will just refer to him as a ‘magician’ as a catch all term for anyone who wielded magic before it became a term for illusionists.

In popular tradition, he is the son of an incubus and a nun, he inherited his less savory magical powers from his father and his ability to see the future from God, who rewarded him for not becoming the antichrist. I do not know what that classifies him other than a cambion and the weirdest guy in Britain.

I feel like the world needs to know the context of the edinburgh zoo penguin parade, becausr I’ve been going there my entire life and I only found out about this the other year.

So a while back (I can’t remember exactly when but I think it was some time around the 40s/50s), a bunch of penguins escaped. A keeper left the gate open so a bunch of penguins just… followed them. And the people loved it. Look at these adorable birds outside their cage just following that guy around! So they get all the penguins back inside and realise that none of them really ran off, they just followed the keeper and went back inside and crowd thought it was amazing, so why not make it a regular thing? Get enough people there that if one of them goes to make a run for it (which at least one has in the past), they can’t get past the people, and let the ones who want outside have a little wander. So every day, they get a crowd, they open the gate, and whatever penguins want to get out can go, waddle about, squawk at people, and then hop back inside.

Also, one of those penguins is Brigadier Sir Nils Olaf III, Colonel-in-cheif of the Norwegian King’s Guard. This isn’t really related to the parade at all, I just love the fact that there’s a penguin in the Norwegian army

A lovely older friend of mine lived in Edinburgh when she was a small child, and regularly attended the penguin parade – as a penguin. That is, she was a small toddler and thus about the right height and speed, and she just waddled along with everyone else who was about 2’ high.

So the answer to ‘can I volunteer to be a penguin’ is at least occasionally ‘yes.’

I actually do think we should discourage women from becoming housewives. Do not become financially dependent on a man. That's how a lot of women ended up dead over the years. A man gets violent suddenly and you have to choose between homelessness or potentially dying at his hand because you have an enormous gap in your resume and no degrees or certifications or anything that will help you pursue a career that will allow you to be financially independent. He owns your bank account. His name is probably the one on the car. Try and leave and he can report it stolen. Where will you go then?

Make sure you’re legally married, for starters; stay-at-home girlfriends have very little legal recourse to claim their partner’s assets in a breakup. Make sure your name is on the house deed/rental agreement, and have your car in your name, even if your spouse is paying for it. Have your spouse transfer money every month into an account solely in your name, so you can buy yourself things without needing permission, but also so you can save up to leave if needed.

If your spouse fights you on any of this, then don’t quit your job. The tradwife to poverty pipeline is real, and so is financial abuse.

I'm re-listening to Project Hail Mary, and I cannot get that tumblr post out of my head where its talking about the whole thing from Rocky's point of view. You know the one, it's like 'you go into space with your most advanced tech, spend 50 years alone, and then one day a dog in a trashcan shows up. It can't do 2+2 but it knows how the universe started'

Like, this mindset makes everything that happens in the story absolutely hilarious, in particular the whole first interactions bit.

From Rocky's point of view he sent a simple model of the local star systems to indicate where he was from hoping these new creatures would indicate where they were from. He put it in a protective cylinder and sent it over to the ship. Something enormous climbs out of a hole in the side of their ship... Wait, did one of the creature go OUTSIDE its ship in a a god damn plastic bag just to catch it??? I better aim it at where it came out of so it doesn't do that again. Then when the cylinder gets back, the creatures have indicated where they're from by attaching a lollypop stick with chewinggum to the model... which has mostly fallen off in the heat. Also they put distilled fire in the cylinder???

The creature then climbs outside its ship, again, chiseled a lump of its ship with a hammer so it can send you a sample so you can join to it and... its made of thin sheets of soft lead???

Then on finally talking to this large creature he realises it's incredibly delicate like a jellyfish, so god damn stupid, has essentially no memory, and cant do basic maths. And you're supposed to be saving you're entire civilisation with this squishy idiot. But then a while later it turns around and explains relativistic time dilation and background radiation like its something he should have figured out already.

Ive heard multiple people describing Rocky seeing Grace like the equivalent of a dog, but he's really is more like hes a three and a half year old blind jellyfish. Its living in a frozen semi-vacuum of highly explosive gas, can't remember anything, needs to nap constantly or it becomes noticeably more stupid, and it's here to save the world.

Its just such a delightful addition to hold in the back of your mind when reading the book.
