In truth, Dave had been avoiding an interaction with Auntie, he thought it would have been painful. He wasn’t there for her when she’d died. He could have done something, he’d fought gods and demons alike. He could have helped. She didn’t need to hear that though, she didn’t need to hear much of anything except the answer to her question.
“Yeah, pretty much.“ He shrugged. “I’m guessing it’s pretty weird to hear that you lived here for a while, and that moming was one of your hobbies, huh? I guess you’d had a lot of practice before I popped in.” He patted her shoulder gently, trying not to overwhelm her; the only thing Dave knew is that she would need time to remember, and he would have to tread lightly around her, and not get too excited. “It’s cool if you don’t remember, it’ll take some time, m-…” he cleared his throat “my friend.” Nice save, smooth as fuck except not at all. Calling her mom might have been weird, so he dialed it back a bit.
“Right now, I’m just a chill dude who wears shades, and until you get your memory back, I’m ok with that. Being ok with stuff is what chill dudes do; it’s like an art to us. I’m Leonarbro Chillvinci.” Needless to say, Dave was pretty fucking awful in situations like this. The second he has something serious to say, he starts spouting nonsense. He sighed, and looked like he was about to apologize, but decided against it.
Her hunch was right, then. She nods in agreement to his statements, brow creasing slightly as the weight of this situation slowly piles up. At least Dave seemed like a collected, responsible teen. If she did one thing right, it was likely picking him up as an adopted son.
“Aha, yeah..’pretty weird’ just about sums it up, I guess.. I never thought I’d be the kind of person to try and be someone’s mother, again.. It wouldn’t surprise me if I made a lot of mistakes..”
Ian had told her to not think about the past, anymore. It was best to put it behind her, and she knew this–but with that still fresh scar on her heart, it was difficult to pick up being a mother, again. Having apparently lived in an area she couldn’t remember for over a year had also thrown her for a serious loop, but she was slowly starting to accept this fact. At least she was likely far away from her own universe–that had been her goal, after all.
He seemed to stop himself from saying something–it wasn’t difficult to figure out what it was. She wasn’t sure if he wasn’t comfortable with the idea, since she didn’t remember being a mother to him, or if he was holding it back for her sake..

He patted her shoulder while she was talking, then chuckled in response to her final question. “Yeah, I don’t know how to take anything seriously, so they just kind of pop up sometimes. I don’t even think i have a filter anymore.” Dave gave a halfhearted sigh and shrugged.
“This sucks, but to be honest, I wouldn’t want to make you uncomfortable. You need time to get back into the swing of things. Besides, I’m almost an adult. I don’t need a mom. I sure as hell didn’t need a bro when i was growing up-... shit. Forget I said anything. also that I curse like a sailor.” Another chuckle. He seemed to be loosening up just a bit.
“I’m fine with calling you Auntie. Makes you sound British.” And in what was possibly the worst imitation of a British accent, Dave said “I ‘ope ta get ta know ya, Auntie toime-lady.” Well, he wasn’t exactly known for his accents; or known for much other than being a general goofball, and being able to wield a sword.
