the whole “heartstopper isn’t realistic” argument is so stupid to me because everyone who says that has clearly not been able to understand the show/comics correctly. you have charlie literally fainting because he’s not eating enough, you have nick doubting himself because he doesn’t know how to help one of the people he cares the most about, you have elle experiencing identity issues surrounding her current life and friendships, you have tara having self esteem issues because her girlfriend is kind of giving her the silent treatment, you have darcy hiding from her friends the literal hell she’s going through in her house, you have isaac experiencing his sexuality awakening alone because he feels he can’t trust his friends, you have imogen literally going through another sexuality awakening after being heartbroken two times, and finally, you have tori literally at the brink of tears in every scene because of depression. heartstopper IS realistic. you are just too obsessed with drugs and over sexualisation of teenagers. grow up.

i honestly think that the people saying it’s not realistic just didn’t grow up with a kind queer friend group. this show is one of the most realistic and relatable ones i’ve seen. just bc our society capitalizes sex and drugs doesn’t mean everyone wants that.

people really got too used to euphoria. THAT isn’t realistic.

also if you read any of the other books within the heartstopper universe you get sex and drugs/drinking fairly early on.

charlie, tao, and isaac are only 14/15 at the start of the series. most of my friends when i was a younger teen weren’t having sex and doing drugs. nick and charlie do end up having sex later in the series. when they’re a bit older and have dealt with a big handful of their mental health issues, and their relationship is fuller.

obviously this show isn’t for everyone, i don’t think any piece of media can be. but this criticism really pisses me off. just bc YOU don’t relate to it doesn’t mean nobody can. it also just makes me angry when someone criticizes something without knowing the full story. most of the heartstopper books are online for FREE go read them before saying something you don’t know the full context of.

I've seen a lot of people talk about the similarities between Charlie from Perks of Being A Wallflower and Charlie from Heartstopper, and I definitely see it, but I also think there's some similarities between Charlie (Perks of being a wallflower) and Tori (Solitaire). I don't have the energy to give a proper full comparison right now, but I was watching the movie earlier today and rereading the book (because I like to make myself cry /s) and I couldn't stop thinking about these parts.

Even when Charlie (TPOBAW) asks his teacher Paul Rudd why people date people who aren't good enough for them and watches the people he loves go through such pain, and I imagine that's similar to how Tori feels watching her little brother go through everything.

We don't see a lot of what it feels like for Charlie (HS) when he has his relapses, but in Solitaire we do get an inside look at how Tori's intrusive thoughts work. Tori doesn't deal with sh, but the way Charlie (TPOBAW) and Tori go through these mental breakdowns feels similar to me. And in Solitaire it's said that the main reason Tori doesn't sh is because she feels it's unfair for her parents to have two kids that try to die.

in elementary school we had. basically an immersive economics lesson that was "playing City," with different jobs and businesses; it was mostly semi-free time for socializing and selling/buying toys and snacks from each other. one of the lessons we were supposed to learn was the importance of paying a small amount of money into health and/or business insurance, because you had a chance of being hit with the Daily Disaster and a huge bill.
