as we see reprisals of Y2K skinny culture (as part of fascism) people are making a lot of posts like ‘if you’re too young to remember, it was so toxic. people shamed [skinny woman] for being fat!’ and perhaps it’s useful to bring up someone like kate winslet circa 1999 being fatshamed to express how truly dire the situation was/is but i find it increasingly frustrating that the response seems by and large to be ‘wow that’s awful! she wasn’t even fat!’ [so clearly that was wrong!] and not the real point: ‘so imagine how horrible it was for actual fat people, who also don’t deserve the far worse treatment they got/get.’

Jonathan Joss was an Indigenous, gay man who was murdered on the first day of Pride month as well as Indigenous History Month. He died protecting his trans husband. Homophobia and racism aren’t marks of the past, and this is a heart breaking reminder of that.

ofc you do so my mom's church does livestreams i guess and my mom was sick a couple sundays ago so she stayed home to watch it. and i haven't been in a church since i was 14, haven't heard any preaching or sermons or what have you & the FIRST one i hear in almost 10 years is this pastor going "if evolution were real why would have to study anything in our bodies? why would we chose to have something we don't know anything about? you wouldn't need doctors if evolution was real" and i just. i so desperately want to how he got to that conclusion. ive heard a lot of arguments against it, i went to a christian school where they flat out said they're not teaching evolution (which is not legal to do in the united states) but that is by far the absolute worst take ever heard. even my mom, now that ive tried to educate her some and who could possibly be convinced that god did the evolution thing, thought it was a terrible argument. it was such a flimsy excuse i think it almost made her fully switch sides
