Honestly, I don’t think Lin Ling truly loved Moon as much as he describes during the truth revealing interview. Like before he obviously thought about her, maybe had a crush, but even in flashbacks it doesn’t seem like he thinks of her as his ‘Goddess’. When he sees her on the billboard with Nice he hardly acknowledges her. But it’s only after he became Nice does his feelings change. I think it’ll be revealed later that his emotions for her were Nice’s bleeding through because his sudden deceleration of love seemed so random.

also, i'd like to add that every time Xie Lian ascends Hua Cheng just invents a new persona to meet him with. at the end when the big reveal is happening it's just an endless stream of "That was you too?!" and it's about idk a random innkeeper. every single person that wore red when Xie Lian met them is Hua Cheng
