So, what is the OGL and why are DnD creators thoroughly screwed?
Tumblr has not been doing a great job at talking about this, but:
With OneDnD, Wizards of the Coast has decided to update the Open Game License (OGL). Said license is what allowed people to create homebrew DnD content and sell it, and even larger companies to use certain sorts of content. Pathfinder, for example, is built on said OGL. This also allows streamers and artists to exist and benefit from said content.
With OneDnD (sometimes called “dnd 6e”), WOTC wants to create a much more restrictive OGL, which will, amongst other things:
Make WOTC take a cut for any DnD-related work (according to Kickstarter, a whole 25% of the benefits)
Let WOTC cancel any project related to DnD up to their discretion
Let WOTC take ANY content made based on their system, and re-sell it without crediting you, or giving you a single cent
And most importantly, revoke the old OGL, which will harm any company or game system that used it as a base, such as Pathfinder. And it means they GET ownership over any homebrew content you may have done for 5e in the past!
It’s important to note that OGLs are supposedly irrevocable. They were planning to use it for OneDnD initially, but they want to apply it retroactively to 5e, somehow. Which is illegal, but lawyers have mentioned there’s a chance they may get away with it given the wording.
This means that anything you make based on DnD (A homebrew item? A character drawing? Even music, according to them?), can get taken and used as they deem appropiate.
These news come from a leak of the OGL, which have been confirmed by multiple reputable sources (including Kickstarter, which has confirmed that WOTC already talked with them about this), and was planned to be released next week.
So, what can we do?
Speak against it. Share the word. Reblog this post. Let people know. Tumblr hasn’t been talking much about this matter, but it’s VERY important to let people know about what is WOTC bringing.
Boycott them. Do not buy their products. Do not buy games with their IP. Do not watch their movie. CANCEL your DnD Beyond subscription. (Btw, they ARE planning to release more subscription services too!). They do not care about the community, but they care about the money. Make sure to speak through it.
And maybe consider other TTRPG systems for the time being, Pathfinder’s Paizo has been much nicer to the community, their workers are unionized and are far more healthy overall

So. Hi everyone, you may have seen me around sometimes, talking about robots and comics or yelling about people not understanding Judaism or ableism or generally dealing with white nonsense. I’m currently broke.
I am 29, disabled, Jewish, Latine, trans, and queer as hell. I’m not saying that to try to force you to donate, just to explain how shitty things are. My family seized most of my money because I was unable to remove them from the accounts because there’s some issues with my mental illness and being treated like a human thinking person. They didn’t get my one at a small local bank they were never signed onto, or my PayPal. But I have nothing. I need around 300 for food and transport, and hopefully at least 80 of that for my hormones. If you have a little I would really appreciate if you could donate, I can even draw you something.
He's a cis man. He's transfem. He's nonbinary. He has 35 genders. He's a cis woman. He's a trans man. Gender, he barely knows her. He's transmasc. He's gnc. He doesn't know what a pronoun is. I didn't say his name but he popped into your head didn't he
id rather you have cringy but honest interests than try and act like everything youve ever loved was in an ironic way cause you think that love for simple or useless or silly things is beneath you . pathetic! embrace existence with both hands coward
mad scientist ethics board that makes sure that a project is sufficiently unethical before providing funding
sometimes you get a normal scientist trying to apply with a regular invention that just has a puppy shredder attached to it with hot glue or sticky tape
you'd think they'd be disqualified for that, but trying to cheat the system to get research funding actually adds a lot of unethical points
Why do you use tumbrl as your main social media? Is not a bit outdated and filled with weird ppl?
Very much so! It's definitely outdated and filled with weird people. But I'm afraid it has some downsides as well.
someone teach me how to draw bears

enraptured by the beanie baby documentary
this isn’t fair i was sitting right next to nat (op) when he posted this do i not get any secondhand clout because i was too busy playing ffxiv to participate in the beanie baby documentary
gamers these days will be like “ohhh i must queue up to make my bunny boy fight elfs” or whatever and will not simply Look Up and gaze into the expressive eyes of a beanie right on their tv… #society

due to various scheduling issues of living across the country and being adults none of my friends except one could make it to my birthday so we decided to buy a cake and serve it to the people at a bar to just create a birthday party. which worked pretty well until my friend exitedly went "do you know what happened on this very important day?" to announce my birthday only for one girl to interrupt them even more exitedly with "the day germany standardised paper sizes!" which we all quickly agreed was an even better reason to eat cake.
which is how i ended up singing the sentence HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEAR DIN A4 PAPER with a group of drunken strangers on my birthday, which is better than anything I could have planned in the first place.
Man eating rice, China, 1901-1904
this is an extremely important picture
Ive never seen someone from 1904 having fun omg
He has a nice face
No but the history behind this picture is really interesting
The reason that everyone always looked miserable in old photos wasn’t that they took too long to take. Once photography became widespread it took only seconds to take a picture.
It was because getting your photo taken was treated the same as getting your portrait painted. A very serious occasion meant so thst your descendants would know that ypu existed and what you looked like.
But one time some British dudes went to china to go on an anthropological expedition, and they met some rural Chinese farmers and decided to take their pictures. Now, these people weren’t exposed to the weird culture of the time around getting your photo taken, so this guy just flashed a big grin during the photo because he was told to strike a pose and that’s the pose he wanted to strike.
I think painted portraits and old photos give us the idea that in general people were just really unhappy because those are the visuals we have. This is so refreshing.
Hey, look; “Man Laughing Alone With Rice” is back on my dash.
