it pisses me off how lemire is like “the person i like writing the most is lorraine!” and then writes, literally, misogynistic drivel that does nothing except flatten out all the compelling pieces of her and replaces them with a personality made up ENTIRELY of her relationship to ronnie. it's like the only way she can exist in this comic is if she's reminding the audience that she and ronnie used to date. which... they barely did, by the way, and for the majority of it she was the side piece. it doesn't matter that she was a politician, it doesn't matter that she was given her powers via torture, it doesn't matter that her relationship with ronnie has been platonic longer than it was ever romantic/sexual. all that matters if that she's Firestorm's Ex-Girlfriend: Firestorm But A Girl but of course not as strong as Real Firestorm. give me a fucking break.

genetics are so funny because a lot of (maybe most) mutations that get established do so not because they provide any kind of benefit, but because they just dont kill you fast enough to prevent you from reproducing. once you start looking at evolution this way, everything is a lot less mysterious

I do not agree with veganism as a moral standard. If it is your personal moral stance, that is fine. If you think humans eating meat is inherently immoral, I don’t want to deal with you, you’re hopeless. Vegan ideology behaves more like a sect of evangelical Christianity than a dietary choice.

It is not inherently better for the environment. That is the thing. When you begin trying to explain that local, sustainably sourced animal protein is better for the environment than imported plant proteins that are farmed 3,500 miles away using slave labor, they start tuning you out. Down is better for the environment than polyester stuffing, leather is better for the environment than pleather. We should work on making animal agricultural practices more sustainable instead of trying to shame everyone into eating plant products that are also farmed unethically and unsustainably.
