the thing about mothers in fiction is that a lot of fandoms seem to be under the impression that the worst thing a woman can possibly do is be a bad mother. like they can forgive deadbeat dads easily but the moment a woman is a bad or even mediocre mother she's the devil incarnate to them. and then you're like "i like her and i think she's interesting" and they immediately go "oh so you think it's okay to be a bad mother (which is the most evil thing a woman can be)". and don't even get me started on how they react to female characters who are bad stepmothers

Some big frustrations I have with the romances in Dispatch (which are already just two conventional, boring heterosexual options with nothing else offered):

- Having the story force Robert into a sexual conversation about Invisigal’s dream regardless of whether the player likes her, wants to romance her, or is even comfortable engaging with her that way, while only letting you choose what kind of sexual response he gives rather than whether he participates at all

- Having Invisigal later say that she is usually the “pegger, not the peg-ee,” which could have given their relationship a genuinely unconventional heterosexual dynamic, only for it to be treated as a disposable joke while the actual sex dream clearly points toward the most conventional possible dynamic

- Presenting Blonde Blazer as taller, stronger, and more physically imposing than Robert, only for her romance route to emphasize her smaller civilian form as Mandy as the more vulnerable, authentic, and romantically appealing version of her

- Ultimately making both romance options shorter than Robert and keeping both relationships within the same safe, familiar heterosexual framework, despite repeatedly teasing little details that could have made either relationship more interesting

- Using pegging, powerful women, reversed size differences, sexual bluntness, and Robert’s vulnerability as jokes or temporary fake-outs rather than allowing any of those things to meaningfully shape the actual romances

- Wanting credit for appearing raunchy, progressive, or unconventional while refusing to commit to anything outside of the most marketable and predictable heterosexual romance dynamics
