I get in theory why people complain about het ships or whatever, I get wanting to watch queer media I really do, but I guess where y’all lose me is like. I saw some asshole on a post about Sinners complaining it was “hetslop”—this person was specifically doing so while also claiming Remmick was a queer character and thus they were justified in caring more about him than the Black protagonists. which is a whole other disgusting can of worms that has been well addressed by others at this point. but even in the absence of that part of the argument, like, no, i actually don’t think that a hunger for queer stories is an especially good excuse to deride and dismiss a piece of landmark Black filmmaking, especially as a non-Black person. I have a post that’s been going around encouraging folks to engage with more Native stories and characters, and I had someone come onto that post saying in the tags that they’d need these stories to be queer in order to care. and I just think that, you know, sucks! like obviously as a queer Native I also want to see more of those stories too. but idk how else to put it other than to say that Black people and people of color shouldn’t have to be like you in order for you to care about our narratives and experiences. and I think some of y’all are using this disdain for heterosexuality as a cover for your unexamined racial biases. it’s not okay to be racist to people just because those people happen to be straight, and you continue to be white before you are queer.
on an even more basic level than that, also, I simply just think some of y’all NEED to learn how to interact with media and storytelling without ships and fandom in mind. like if not being able to write fic about two men kissing is genuinely going to be a dealbreaker for you I think that’s actually something you need to work on within yourself because at that point I think you’re no longer really interacting with art and themes and narrative so much as just kind of playing with toys. which is, like, fine I guess. have fun. but it wouldn’t kill you to disengage from that from time to time. especially if would allow you to actually appreciate rich and deeply moving cultural stories from communities of color that you desperately need to learn how to see as human

One of my favorite tropes is post apocalyptic towns being named after dilapidated signs with missing letters, like Novac (no vacancy) and Eaden (dead end). There’s something inexplicable about it

I was rereading parts of The Sword of Hades to check on something else, and I noticed an interesting characterization point of Percy which I feel like isn't talked about a lot:
“Where are your ghosts?” she demanded in irritation. “My… I don’t know. I don't have any.” She snarled. “Everyone has ghosts—deaths you regret. Guilt. Fear. Why can I not see yours?” Thalia and Nico were still entranced, staring at the goddess as if she were their long-lost mother. | thought about other friends I'd seen die—Bianca di Angelo, Zoé Nightshade, Lee Fletcher, to name a few. “I've made my peace with them,” I said. “They've passed on. They're not ghosts. Now, let my friends go!” I slashed at Melinoe with my sword. She backed up quickly, growling in frustration. The fog dissipated around my friends. They stood blinking at the goddess as if they were just seeing how hideous she was.
I like having Percy dwell on things as much as the next girl, and of course this is pre-TLO, he absolutely could have gotten more guilty after being the actual leader of the Battle of Manhattan. But at least canonically, he seems to be able to make his peace decently well.
Also @justaz has some more thoughts on that here, they had the thought first but posted after I did.
I think this is the single funniest artfight rule. Like....I guess?

Lying Liars
YES!
Welsh parliament agrees law to outlaw lying in future Senedd election campaigns.
I had to check this wasn’t The Onion
This seems like a joke and obvious and I can see the appeal, but the problem with this is if you make lying illegal, what you've actually done is make a government agency the arbiter of truth. Imagine if a judiciary under the Trump administration had the power to fire politicians saying things that the Trump administration claims are lies.
(The counter-argument to that, of course, is that with such laws in place, the chance of something like a Trump admin arising in the first place would be lowered.)
worst AND saddest part of percy jackson S3, the adaptation of the titants curse, is going to be percy realising for the 2nd summer IN A ROW, that he will never be camp's first choice if they can have someone else, even after all he did for them.
in s2 people literally groaned when he, pretty smartly, actually, pointed out that if you sail the sea of monsters, to go to Polyphemus', a son of poseidon, island to steal something from him it would be good to have a son of poseidon in your crew to smooth as many things out as they can, not to mention he also already went on a mission and clarisse hadn't.
chiron for the 2nd time lied to him about something very important and WORLD altering, because of a "oh! what if. . ." thought process that didn't even made sense timeline wise
last summer he came back to camp pretty chill and okay with his father, even understanding of why they can't have the normal parent x child relationship mortals can, he also understood that poseidon still misses and loves sally with poseidon chocking up with the "do you still dream about mom?" question, at the beginning of the summer he was angry and judgmental and ready to jump at the person who accused him of being a son of poseidon, at the end of the summer, even after being betrayed by his first friend at camp and mentor figure, he was smiling
and chiron had the audacity to go "Oh, yeah, Annabeth, lie to him like Grover did, because, who knows, Percy might destroy Olympus, kisses, stay safe!!!"
percy gave up the glory of completing a second quest because he knew it was important to clarisse to have that for herself, he inspired and lead camp to their first victory against kronos' forces
and in it he again made sure Clarisse had AND was seen with Fleece and the one who uses it to restore Camp's protective barrier and bring back Thalia, and like even if you weren't in the within hearing distance of him telling clarisse "you need to be the one to do this." he still inspired you and lead your forces into victory with little to no time of preparation and all disadvantages possible, clarisse even tells him "we need you around" at the end of the summer.
and then in less than a year, he is going to be sidelined AGAIN, chrion is going to teach thalia how to control the mist, camp is going to rally behind her, not to mention the whole plotline of percy hearing annabeth and grover talk about her like she is god's gift to earth and how they miss her and how she will fix things, when: one, he had a nightmare, and told annabeth about it, of thalia joining kronos
and two, he is the one fixing things for the past two summers and people still mistrust him.
this whole plot pisses me off, like genuinely, yes it is a corrupt and broken system that will only change for better after percy wins the war, but he is a 2 summers quest veteran a pretty good leader that actually managed a victory against a surprise attack, he is a hero, and everyone is treating him like a consolation prize, it's so frustrating
i honestly hope they develop percy's and clarisse's friendship (even though clarisse isn't in the ttcs book, but the directors and writers changed more for less payoff) as a counterpoint to annabeth and thalia, clarisse was always sidelined because she is the hotheaded god of war child, and not the cunning collective goddess of war descendent, and percy is constantly everyone's 2nd choice specially after thalia resurrects, so like, underdogs you gotta unite!!!!!

Even in a post-capitalist, post-consumerist world, you still need to produce goods, as a result of this, you need factories because it is more effective to have a few people making a lot of clothes in a factory than every woman being forced to sit down and spin wool all day.
The issue with factories is poor wages, unsafe working conditions and environmental impact, all of which can be fixed through things like regulatory bodies and unions, the issue is not the fact that goods are no longer all made at home
you can have a guild-owned, guild-run, sustainable and ethical small- to mid-size clothing factory. or laundromat. or kitchen. all of these once-domestic tasks can become industrialized without the capitalism and greed.
the factory isn't evil. it's a building full of machines and materials.
Maybe some locks were only meant for one key 👀
