any recommendations for sámi (or other) songs/artists/bands?

yes! Mari Boine is like THE legend in sámi music and she’s been making music since 80s so she has a LOT of stuff. I recommend idjagiedas it’s my favorite song by her and one of my favorite songs of all time. the last minute or so of this one is like top 10 music moments for me of all time. Other recommendations: vuoi vuoi mu, gula gula, mun da han lean oaivamus, máze, goaskinviellja, vilges suola. cannot be overstated how influential she is on sámi music

Hildá Länsman is also really good, she has both joik and like sámi techno club music it’s so cool. I really like Jođi and gii dan livčče, and dajan is a really fun party song with joik! Oaidnemeahttun is like eight minutes long but one of the most beautiful things ever I swear it’s worth it the build up to the last half is FANTASTIC

I also really really like Emil Kárlsen, he has made some good music with Hildá länsman (for example gii dan livčče). Viehkkin-Erjan is one of my favorite songs I genuinely listen to it daily because it makes me happy i’m probably like top three listeners of that song. I also LOVE Áhkku and Giđa ávašta by him. His discography is very solid tbh it’s all good

Lávre’s album vuložat is also great, I really like viellja and joavdan

if you want an 80s banger we have alla hearrá guhkkin osllos which is in both norwegian and northern sámi and is about language politics its really good
