like I'm genuinely fucking sorry to the people who didn't enjoy or hate watched tvl, that found things to complain about every single episode, being mad that the show called the vampire lestat was about the vampire lestat and the love of his life, being mad that the other characters who are not lestat or louis got less screen time, being mad that the storytelling was disorienting and frenzied in the show about the vampire miss manic pixie dream girl, being mad that it's different from the first two seasons which were narrated by a whole other character etc. cause I had an absolute blast watching it, the main cast all did an emmy worthy performances and going from their interviewes are genuinely happy and proud with the finished product. anyways it got a 10 minute standing ovation in my household

thinking about lestat being absolutely thrilled when claudia shows up to the seance immediately physically attacking merrick. later asking her to show him her malice. now him at the long table, being confronted with people laying out the multiple ways in which he has failed them and himself, excitedly asking where claudia is… all this leading back to him being proud of claudia managing to kill him all the way back in new orleans

in a way he always wants claudia to show up for him and he wants her to to come at him with everything she’s got. and claudia realizes that and refuses to give him the satisfaction. we see it with her refusing to finish the chess game and now with her refusing to join the long table. we arguably even see it with her mostly focusing her anger on louis during the seance. she has nothing to say to him, she has better things to do with her time than give him the attention he so clearly craves

in the days since the finale leak, all i keep wondering is how a piece of media like iwtv of all things seems to have attracted a large majority fanbase consisting of people who are desperate to view every part of the show (down to the actual actors and writers, which is grim beyond words) through a victim/abuser mindset. it kills me that we’re in this tenderqueer era of faux-counter-culture media consumption where the most easily offended people on the planet are willing to watch a show with graphic violence, incest, and abuse, but only if they can easily parse who’s right and who’s wrong in every scene and relationship, as if that’s even close to the point of it all. and to then have the audacity to not just object to that, but also to be up in arms over cruel shit the characters are saying to each other? in the fictional universe they all exist in as terrible, awful people? the game is so, so gone. if you would like to watch something that doesn’t challenge your black-and-white moral framework in even the slightest way, can i suggest daytime TV? i’ve also heard that children’s books tend to clearly lay out their moral lesson in the final few pages lest you get confused and think the author condones the big bad wolf eating grandma, which may provide a clarity some of you are in such desperate need of

Did Armand deserve an apology from Louis? Fuck no. But Louis saving both himself and Regina through empathy and compassion for the monster that Armand is - that was beautiful to me.

ok now can we talk about what this season was actually about.

the portrait of an artist confronting his trauma, his guilt and his failures. this was Lestat finally being forced to sit in the wreckage of himself.

The fog finally lifting on Gabriella's abuse. Finally understanding that he is loved by Louis. finding some agency. He's not healed. not redeemed. just a 250 year old vampire old enough to take off the armour and start accepting himself and acknowledging his mistakes. this season was the ultimate character study acted brilliantly by sam reid.

and we are only halfway through the story. a perfect setup to the drama to come.

Some of y'all really deserve, in a "be careful what you wish for" sort of way, a more "faithful" adaptation of TVL, where there's almost no Louis and there's just scene after scene of Lestat pondering the nature of good and evil and thinking about Marius a lot, like a whole episode of Lestat doing nothing but carving a paragraphs-long message to Marius in a rockface, and then Marius shows up to derail any forward momentum to the plot to tell an incredibly long story that turns out to be mostly untrue. And then Lestat thinks about Marius some more.

Reblogging because… Assad displayed such a range of emotions in this scene and truly honoured Armand’s character from the terrifying to the hurt to the unsettling to the endearing and still…. Still Armand is seen as a ‘cartoon villain’ when the point of this scene is that he is only hurting others because he is a scared child desperate for control, for forgiveness, for an apology, for retribution… Why do you think he breaks down when Louis says ‘I saw good in you’? He is so complex and so well written and acted it’s insane.
