"In times of strife, the foolish make a fist while the wise make a friend." —First Address of Seshiro the Anointed as Broodmaster of the Orochi Colonies
-Seshiro's Living Legacy
Okay so Victorian erotica is literally the most heinous, morally bankrupt, horrific shit I've ever read - but I've read a fair bit, partly from historical interest but also because a while back I helped a friend with a university project she was doing about censorship and pornography in 19th century England.
Anyway I need to share with you all the most hilarious line that has ever been written, circa 1887:
I feel like this excerpt is significantly enhanced by knowing that the novel in question is a first-person narrative written from the perspective of an inexplicably sapient flea who lives on Bella's body, and that's why the third priest's penis is described in this way: from the narrator's perspective it literally blots out the sky.

Hi, it’s me, the guy in charge of triple A video game camera effects. People are always asking why I make sure every single game has view bobbing, camera shaking, bloom, and heavy motion blur. “Is it for immersion? Is it to be cinematic? Are you trying to hide graphical errors by blurring the screen when you move?” They always make such ridiculous guesses. The truth is that me, my buddy who makes the default volume loud enough to cause ear damage, and the guy who makes sure that you can’t open the settings until you beat the tutorial are all in on it together. Hiding the settings in hard to find parts of the settings menus and imagining you struggling through tutorials with obnoxious visual effects and deafening audio is actually a sex thing for us
honestly shout out to the live action one piece series for an incredible dedication to the art of practical effects because oh my god the sets! the fish boat restaurant they built from the ground up! the pirate ships! the entire villages and bars and intricately crafted rooms they spent weeks to months on! the costuming! the make up department! the prosthetics and the scarring and the hair! the weapons! the fight scenes! obviously there’s cgi but it’s used in moderation and to enhance a scene, not take it over.
I’m really enamored with the dynamic of two characters who work perfectly in tandem, like pacific rim drift compatible level, but they don’t like each other. It’s not even as strong an emotion as hate it’s just a very neutral-negative dislike, but they still act in perfect concert and their individual abilities are fully complementary
I just read an extremely interesting article on the cultural context of gruesome civil war still-life medical photos but unfortunately it was contaminated by severe media studies brain. that discipline should be subsumed into history and sociology asap because otherwise it has no empirical anchor whatsoever and just becomes tarot reading
there was a lot in there that I didn't know, about the public and artistic sentiments around amputation in the postwar years, and it gave some interesting examples that I want to check out. but every couple paragraphs there would be some shit about the Foucauldian metonymics, subversive Northern chauvinism, and homoerotic gender dynamics of this photo of a pile of amputated feet.
it's a pile of feet! it needs very little other explanation than that the surgeon-photographer thought "holy shit, I just cut off nine legs in three hours. this is probably worth memorializing" and then he did that. I don't know that it needs to be read as having a deeper intention than "jesus fucking christ that's a lot of feet"
this is an incredibly dismissive take on media studies and cultural context, reaching the point of the popular (equally dismissive) take of "why did the writer say the curtains are blue? because they simply are blue", so imma provide below a great rebuttal found in the comments of your own post op:
alt text below the cut cus the post got already too long:
I just wanted to acknowledge the passing of a former Magic designer. Teeuwynn Woodruff was on the design teams for Weatherlight, 7th Edition, & Apocalypse, and on the development teams for Nemesis, Prophecy, Planeshift, & 7th Edition. She was a passionate proponent of representation of women and minorities and helped push Magic to be more thoughtful in how we made cards. Tee sadly died of cardiac arrest this week, and will be missed.
It's my 10 year anniversary on Tumblr oh god
wish yall would stop calling rejection of mainstream beauty expectations as “embracing ugliness” :(

This can't stay as just a tag I'm sorry but its true
this sequence summarizes very well how i feel about this whole situation
I haven’t read much beyond this press release, but my understanding is that a group of people actually broke in to PM’s office space and started threatening staff.
Does anyone know whether or not it was the artist’s own decision to leave? That they decided that this was, ultimately, just a job for them? That potentially dying for the cause was never in the plan?
Or maybe that the project lead stepped in and decided that one person’s career wasn’t worth his coworkers and friends losing their lives or being maimed for life?
It’s infuriating that any of this is happening, but I don’t think it’s useful or particularly insightful to call out PM for folding to domestic terrorists. We can talk about standing up for ideals until we’re blue in the face, but everything changes when the gun is pointed at you.
Let’s not forget KyoAni, because that’s the reality we live in.
If you want to be mad at someone, be mad at the social engineers that produce these incels, who are so alienated from capital “L” Love that they feel like any of this is acceptable behavior. You know, like PM has been saying since Day One.
Regarding this post, @sagaschan reached out to me and provided a few posts and an article about the current PM fiasco. I was wrong about a few things:
There was no break-in, and no direct threats of violence were made.
The threats of violence against PM staff were only made online on a KR board that has a culture similar to 4chan's /pol/ board. And while a group of ten or so people did show up to Project Moon's office, they only stood outside and waited to talk to a representative. While this is still an escalation of behavior, it wasn't the violent break-in that I believed it to be.
The artist in question was not notified of their termination until 11pm that night.
The artist, known as Vellmori, was not notified of their termination until much later that night. This leads me to believe that they weren't involved in the decision-making process. Further, PM may have violated South Korean Labor Laws by not giving them written notice beforehand.
The firing of the artist was illegal.
The reason PM gave for Vellmori's termination was due to a long-since deleted post expressing certain ideological sympathies. In South Korea, it is apparently illegal to fire someone on the basis of political ideology. So regardless of how one feels about the decision, the fact is that PM broke the law by firing Vellmori.
Worth noting: the "ideology" in question? Vellmori thought people shouldn't be allowed to film women in public without their explicit permission.
I can't tell any of you what to think about all of this. It's a complicated and still-unfolding situation that deserves careful thought and consideration. I write this mainly to hold myself accountable for being misinformed, and as a thank-you to @sagaschan for reaching out to me in a kind, civil manner.
What I can tell you is that I won't be logging on to Limbus Company again until PM does some thing to amend this decision. They've set a terrible precedent for themselves that goes against everything their narratives claim to be about. I can't in good conscience support a company that looks like they're on their way to being another Blizzard or Rooster Teeth.
“The average US president has been charged with 1.54 felonies” factoid isn’t true. The average US President has been charged with 0 felonies. Donald trump, who has been charged with 71, is a statistical outlier and should not have been counted
Felonies Donld is now up to 79 felonies, for a statistical average of 1.71 felonies per president
Update:
With 91 felonies, felonies Donld has now broken the 2 felonies per president average average (2.02 felonies per president)
if you’re a new tumblr user from tiktok or IG or something and only like posts and dont reblog them yeah people will think you’re a bot and block you but you will also make this website actively worse. they want “algorithmic” users like you, served recommended posts through likes, not people who just follow each other and respond to the direct chronological feed. there is a reason this website is still better than the rest, even with all its problems, do not ruin this
ok i need to make this clearer: if you do not reblog posts and only like them you are contributing to this site actively getting worse and becoming like all the apps you hate. keep likes to things you just wanna keep off your blog. reblog everything else. ESPECIALLY fanart, which always needs a reblog.
and FYI: what i’m saying here is backed up by tumblr themselves. they admit this publicly.
if you want a good RECENT (as of the end of February 2022) overview of what is going on behind the scenes at tumblr, it is basically what i’ve been saying for years: the core staff is tiny, constantly not being listened to when they advocate for us, the community, and working there is a nightmare:
And how it can find itself again for a new generation.
Reblogging to encourage people instead of only liking is really not that fucking hard if you dont want people to be discouraged cuz their stuff get zero interactions and 99% useless likes and be driven off the Platform.
Thank yall for this! I thought reblogging wasnt good because that it just puts stuff out there that is already out there, but now i am going to reblog bc I learned and stuff ig. IDK what i was going to say
ig thanks bc now im not scared to reblog out of fear of hate
Out of all the cool stuff that mythbusters ever shot on high speed camera, shooting a soccer ball at 60mph out of a truck traveling 60mph is one of my favorites
Just look at it. It is the most perfect visual representation of Newton’s 2nd law of physics I’ve ever seen. The ball, which was shot out of a CANNON, drops straight down. Two equal and opposite velocities completely canceling each other out, leaving the soccer ball to drop to the earth with a net velocity of 0. Sir issac newton would be proud to tears of this gif.
And yet this “myth” is nothing more than basic physics at work. A 10 year old with an interest in science could have told us this is possible. 60mph in one direction minus 60mph the exact opposite direction is 0. Basic.
But what makes this so frieken cool is the fact that they went through all the trouble to actually demonstrate the invisible laws that govern the way our universe works. To get this shot both the soccer ball and the truck had to be moving at the exact same speed. Real world variables make that extremely difficult to pull off. It took them hundreds of attempts to get it right. They went through all that trouble to “prove” something we have known as fact for hundreds of years. And we get this amazing gif to watch as a result.
Mythbusters is incredible. Science is incredible. And the fact that this experiment in physics can be used in science classes for years and years to come to help children learn about physics is incredible.
This was posted over on twitter as a means of helping and supporting a korean protest group in the midst of this whole situation with Project Moon, Vellmori, and the pathetic manchildren who are trying to bring everything down.
This is a twitter thread containing much more in-depth information about this situation! There's a lot of misinfo going around so please be mindful of that!
Feel free to share any information you also have!! Thanks!
