does anyone have any tips for getting blood drawn? they always have to do both arms multiple times, i almost always have two or more techs, last time they had to use a vein in my hand.

I have asked them if there is anything I can do to make it easier, they said it’s just anatomy. I do believe them, but I also wonder if any of my fellow chronically ill people have figured out any hacks? I have to get a lot of vials soon, and the vein in my hand was really slow last time.

I drink more water than usual before hand to try and pump up my veins, but I don’t know what else to do.

I’m okay with needles normally but the multiple jabs start to freak me out lol. I also have a fair amount of anxiety, so speaking up for myself is hard.

The longer the collection takes, the lazier (for lack of a better word) the techs get. They start off sitting down, with my arm well supported. Then they end up standing over me, swaying, with the needle moving around and bruising, AND with their hair hanging over/touching the syringe before they even poke me. They seem frustrated and start making jokes about their self-proclaimed incompetence. Which is unsettling lol.

It’s not super sanitary and they could so easily get bumped by someone walking behind them and blow my vein or something; it just freaks me out. And I feel bad, like it’s my fault or something, so I don’t have the guts to ask them to tie their hair back or sanitize the area or sit down or whatever.

I also just want to state that I do respect the work they do and I have had many wonderful techs in the past that are very respectful and patient. But it’s such a lottery as to who I’m going to get. Last time they also told me they’re only allowed to do 2 or 3 attempts before they have to call someone else, so that’s even more uncertainty.

Someone being "more disabled" than you does not mean that your disability isn't also real and serious. You don't have to be the most disabled person to be valid. And sometimes we DO have privileges over other disabled people worthy of discussion EVEN THOUGH we very much ARE disabled too.

to reiterate: an autistic fan headcanoning a character they like and relate to as being autistic is not armchair diagnosing anyone and is not harming anyone. it is not an insult for a character to be headcanoned as autistic, it is not the fan claiming their experience as being the only autistic experience, it is not claiming that there cannot be other interpretations.

an autistic person seeing a character's traits as similar to their own and finding comfort in that is not an insult to that character or to other fans.

an autistic fan headcanoning their favorite character as autistic is not a personal attack against you and your experiences and preferences

it feels incredibly ableist and dismissive to tell autistic fans that headcanoning a character as autistic is Problematic. Autism is not an insult.
