Everybody: Pick a struggle.

that is some next level knot magic.
it isn’t though!!! it’s because most relationships aren’t worth the effort. The “sweater curse” is actually most commonly called the “BOYFRIEND sweater curse.” Which=heteronormative, but the curse most often falls on a woman knitting a sweater for a boyfriend. Before she finishes the sweater, they break up - pop culture would have you believe it’s because the boyfriend freaks out do to the weirdness/clinginess of having a sweater made for you, but I think knitters are wiser than that.
It’s because after spending serious £££ on materials, and then HUNDREDS OF HOURS OF LABOR on the creation of the item, with every stitch a prayer of totally focused intent, creating a large display of technical skill - it is then gifted to a non-knitter who does NOT APPRECIATE the work/effort/skill/cost/TIME it took to make it, and in fact thinks you’re a bit weird and making a big deal out of a piece of clothing, and after they go “oh thanks” and shove your creation in the cupboard next to a sweater they got for £15 at an M&S sale, then they never wear your sweater because it’s too tight because when you asked them how their favorite sweaters usually fit they said “I ‘unno” and when you measured them for the fifth time and asked, rather tersely, if they had enough room in the chest, they said “I guess,” and then if pressed they say they don’t really like the sweater design, but then you point out that they were supposed to participate in helping you design it and they say they don’t really care about how things look, and when you say that you tried to match it to their other clothes so how can they hate it, then they say that honestly their mother still buys all their clothes because they hate going shopping, and that they hate all their other clothes too, well. That’s when a sensible knitter goes “Fuck this shit. And you know what? Fuck this man.”
This is what happens when someone posts in a knitting forum “Attack of the sweater curse!” - this is the usual story. It has a rigid plot. It is as old as myth.
That’s when you look at the time you spent and realize, “I could LITERALLY have written the first draft of a novel instead of doing this.” That’s when you go “I could have taken that £200 and bought myself a new wardrobe.” That’s when you go “I could have taken all that intent, all that willpower, all that creative force, and laid down some fucking witchcraft, all right?” That’s when you go “I basically spent 100 hours straight thinking about this bastard while making something amazing for him, and I have no evidence that he ever spent 10 hours of his life thinking about me.”
And “I could spend this time and energy and money in making myself an enormous, intricate heirloom silk shawl with just a touch of cashmere, in elvish twists and leafy lace in all the colors of the night, shot through with subtly glittering stars, warm in winter and cool and summer and light as a lover’s kiss on the shoulders, suitable for draping over my arms at weddings or wrapping myself in to watch the sea, a lace-knotted promise to myself that I will keep for my entire life and gift to my favorite granddaughter when I die, and she will wear it to keep alive my memory - but instead I have this sweater, and this fuckboy.”
The sweater curse is a lesson that the universe gives to a knitter at an important point in their life. It is a gift.
Knitting a sweater for a husband or wife generally doesn’t call down the curse, because the relationship is meant to be stronger than 4-ply.
(Although I say this, but I’ve taken over 5 years to finish a pair of mittens for my husband, because he casually asked me to do something customized with the cables, and I still can’t get the math to work on the right hand.)
Hi im a librarian amd that's not now this works. If a library allows you to have a digital card and not live in the area, you are NOT taking away resources from other people, that's not how anything works. Please keep doing it!!! The more people that use our services, the more money we can get from funding sources!!! Please use us!!! We are not utilized enough, by people in or out of our community. Thanks.

The fact that one of these moves is significantly more difficult for me than the other two at least tells me which nerve is probably the most fucked up
Couple + Sibling/relative third wheel is honestly an S-tier trio dynamic and I wish we saw more of this in media.
"You are my soulmate. We are forged together by battle and tears and love. Also my brother's coming along."
"Yo."
Bonus points if the non-related half of the couple is just as committed to keeping the third wheel around as the related half.
"Isn't it weird that your brother in law is always hanging around?"
"You've got a problem with Andrew?"
Every once in a while my mind wanders to a Leverage Time Travel AU. Take the crew a la Redemption timeline and drop them back in early season 1 and boom chaos.
Now my brain always goes "they wake up in their younger selves one day" sort of thing because I just love the thought of the chaos these guys could get up to with all the knowledge they have
BUT
Nate would be so confused. He's the only non time traveler because he didn't get caught in whatever shenanigans caused it in the first place because, well, he's dead. Suddenly this team is weirdly close and cohesive. They were already speed running this found family but its now somehow worse???? And ohhhhh the angst potential.
THE ANGST
Because here is the love of Sophie's life (but he's not really her Nate at this point is he?) - the man she loved and lost and mourned. She had just begun to really find her way with the grief and there he is again. But this Nate has yet to become that Nate, and if the team changes things - hits certain targets sooner, or differently, would he ever really be her Nate again?
Would he be the Nate that pulled together the original crew? Who's legacy created Leverage International and has impacted more lives than he could ever possibly know?
Because it was Nate that taught them they could be more than they ever believed. That taught them the skills they learned to hurt could be used to help. That they could forge their own path in the world, and it could be so so different from what they thought it could.
(It was Nate that brought together Elliot, Parker and Hardison together. Helped them heal, got them to lean on each other. Support each other. Learn how to ask each other for help - even of they never say the actual words).
Sophie, Parker, Hardison and Elliot would have all this history that Nate is now missing. They would be around this man who was foundational in who they became, and he would know none of it.
Meanwhile Harry is having the most epic crash out in New Orleans.
i mean that tweet is simply not what's happening here. circe is attempting to coerce not only sex but affection from odysseus; odysseus reminds her that she may want to pretend that this relationship is one of equals, but she holds all the power -- after all, she's transformed his companions into pigs, depriving them of humanity and him of their aid. (the translator also left out a fairly critical θεά [goddess] from line 344, emphasizing odysseus's helplessness here.). the only way he can mitigate her power over him is to ask for the oath. and the reading bugs me because i do often get grumpy about surface readings but also because odysseus is a hero who is often stripped of agency, and i think it's interesting that many modern readers don't or can't see that. this is not odysseus saying "she may be evil but she's hot," it's him saying "i can't say no, so at least don't pretend that i can love you."
Did you sell a Nintendo Wii to The Cave in the greater Sacramento area?
I just bought one and it's got like 400 family photos on it.
Personally, all my family photos from like 2003-2014 are locked on some inaccessible hard drive that's probably been lost or thrown away, so if anyone had my family photos from 2006, I'd like to at least see them before they're deleted. If this is your vacation to Yosemite, your dog, your 2-year-old's birthday party, your trip to the park, please contact me [you can send this blog a tumblr ask even if you don't have an account at 20dollarlolita.tumblr.com/ask or you can email me at pink @ pinkandthekeytarcat.com (I'm pink and my cat is the keytar cat)].
These pictures are all separately named so please tell me the names of people in the photos to verify that it's you. Photos from a 1gb wii SD card aren't going to take up too much space on my computer so I'm going to just hold onto these. If they're yours, or you can contact anyone in the pictures, please let me know. I'd like to reuinte them with their owner.
I don't usually ask for signal boost but if anyone wants to help me out here, feel free to boost.
common advice for social anxiety is to tell yourself "people aren't going to think less of you just because you said something a bit daft" but the thing is. sometimes they will. and you just have to learn to be cool with that and to treat it as a dnd random encounter rather than letting it ruin your whole day
recent example. lady at my careers appointment had a post-it with her name on it stuck to the monitor, so i introduced myself by saying "hello, i'm eliot! you must be [name], it's nice to meet you!" and she stared at me as if i was the stupidest person alive and said icily, "yeah, i'm [name]. congratulations, you can read."
in bygone times this would have reduced me to a sort of quivering blancmange. thankfully i am now in a place where i was able to pull back, calmly evaluate this interaction, and say to myself "this woman should probably not be working in a customer-facing job"
important additions!!!!
How dare you put three months of therapy into one goddamn post I love you so much tumblr 😘
I actually recommend everyone write for a rarepair once because it completely changes your relationship with fandom. Engagement stops being numbers and starts being names. You know who's going to show up. You recognize usernames. Someone disappears for a while and then comes back and you're like “OH MY GOD WELCOME HOME.” It's incredibly wholesome. It is also deeply inconvenient when all six of you simultaneously get writer's block-
