this is a humble request to please , please PLEASE make Jiang Yanli a little weird .

Like she's so repressed and you won't know what goes on in her head but she still grew up in a sect where lying facedown in water bodies looking like drowned corpses was acceptable entertainment .

Yunmeng Jiang is probably weirder than any other great sect what with its weakly implemented nearly non existent hierarchical structure and practices ( catching water ghouls with bare hands , ingestion of spices like a addict , throwing people into lakes as swim practice et etc )

She's a very sweet and polite lady . She's also secretly very weird . She actually does share the humour of Wei Wuxian . His mischievous bullshit genuinely makes her laugh . Her admonishment is only for him to take care of himself and remain away from trouble actually . They both have a very common sense of humour because they ARE SIBLINGS

In the trio , it's not Jiang Yanli that accentuates the requirements of decorum to Wei Wuxian , it's Jiang Cheng . She finds it funny actually , she can't throw shit in the Jianghu's face but her didi can !!! Like make her secretly a little weird about society as whole , her worldview and understanding aren't incorrect perse but a little , like tilted to the left . Let it raise questions. A lot , of questions. Jin Zixuan ALSO has a very tilted worldview actually. I want them to cause havok unknowingly.

Light Yagami is a victim of emotional repression and the existential dread and severe complexes that arise with being an extremely gifted and intelligent child and the lack of actual emotional relationships in his life .

His descisions were not really out of his own will and he was a child without the understanding of right from wrong with a literal demon having thrust into his hands and immense power and responsibility to uphold it's existence . He was misguided and his descisions heavily manuevered , arising from a need of motivation or sustenance or an ambition in life considering he had yet to experience genuine love and comraderie with anyone .

Light Yagami should be given the grace of a victim . He was a child with a very heavy burden , no system or support and went mislaid beneath his subconscious guilts and his own intellect . His descisions were not made actively by him .

A lot of people want Jiang Yanli to have more autonomy as a female character but they mean it in more of a "give her a sword and make her sect leader" way and not a "she wanted to marry Jin Zixuan even when he didn't want to marry her" and "she would never really forgive Wei Wuxian for killing her husband" way.

People have this pervasive belief that strength in a female characters equates to physical poweress and the patriarchial views of a typical male character.

In today's media , sadly , strong female characters is just your average "John Wick" wannabe but she's Jenna instead . It preparates further the faux notion of strength that not only makes acts of violence normalised , but also , congratulates them . Especially in male characters .

Both "sword" and "leadership" signify that strength in her can only be shown through these aspects . The book actually potrays how weak such female characters could be AND how hypercritical the society was towards them when they actually expressed these characters and nothing else , take Yu Ziuyan for example. Even the male characters are shown to have strength have more depth to them than simply these . It's just that people simply value the overpowering of others as a primary example of strength.

It's thoughtless simplification, most people don't want to change their understanding and views upon the actual notions of what strength both interpersonal in a society or s family and an inner strength actually entails.

Jiang Yanli is a very important character not only by means of representation but also an expression of what strength could actually look like in a not physical manner , something that was so more significantly important in so many moments we see . Even Wen Qing is a great example of inner strength.

Context based , Jiang Yanli genuinely could not say that she forgave Wei Wuxian in her end moments but even so , she expressed that despite everything she loved him . She was distraught , she'd lost another person she loved so deeply after the wounds of her loss of her parents had yet to heal and even then , she had the maturity, the emotional strength to relay this notion to prevent any downwards spiral of Wei Wuxian .

Jiang Yanli really couldn't forgive him for killing her husband so early into their marriage ( time regardless , it would be horrible but the point still stands ) . And she's completely justified in this situation. But fans don't want that . They want her to posess strength to aid in the war efforts or to prevent her mother's abuse upon him . Which I will personally never quite understand, because she's a CHILD herself. A neglected child with no autonomy, authority or say in her own life .

The only descision she'd made willingly was to love Wei Wuxian and to die for him in the end . Sometimes, to chose love despite everything, and to hope takes far more strength than swinging a sword to kill those who have wronged you . Strength can be expressed without physical parameters being present constantly . Jiang Yanli is a complex character that fits the views of what patriarchy asks of women but even so , possess great strength , exceeding even the male characters she's often made tk resemble. She's flawed and complicated and she's done wrong but even so , she choses repeatedly to be good . And that is a strength not seen often , neither congratulated in women .

I've seen so many fans praise Wei Wuxian for his constant choices made towards being good but not many express the fact or praise Jiang Yanli for actually being a very important reason that Wei Wuxian is so kind and considerate of others .

Wei Wuxian did not save the Wen remnants out of his principles . Wei Wuxian doesn't have as much of a strict moral code as people potray him to have actually. His worldview is quite twisted , he too , has a thirst for vengence and his actions have also been , arbitrarily "Bad" .

Wei Wuxian saved the Wen remanants personally and went ahead to live with them because he owed the Wen siblings a huge debt which he intended to pay back however he could . It's not a martyr complex or a morality complex . It's as simple as that. He realised they'll be treated unwell and I'll in Jianghu, knew he had debts owed and tried to pay them back when the situation presented itself. Not everything has to be a convoluted psychological complex , something Western fans are obsessed with, often using therapy and psychological terms for even minute and simple reactions.

Had these Wen remnants been anyone else he owed nothing to , Wei Wuxian would not have personally invested himself in their well being .

EDIT : for those hard of hearing , not once did I insinuate that repayment of debts is not a virtue . Being Asian myself, even I understand what the gravity of an owed debt entails, especially one corcerned not only with your lives but the respect of your deceased family / superior/ mentor . At the cost of treason even ! It is a virtue ! Practiced without much thought because these actions are based on societal principles followed since childhood! Doesn't make Wei Wuxian any differenct from the normal . It's an expected action, not something he does out of his way to do !! It's not a martyr complex or his own self esteem speaking , he's just repaying a debt .

Wei Wuxian is empathetic and kind . But even so , had he not owed this debt , repayment of which , by traditional sense is specified by the one the debt is owed to ( hence why the entire Wen remnants were rescued with his personal investiture as asked by Wen Qing. The one who stated how it should be repaid ) Wei Wuxian would not go off to become a priah !! He would stand up for them sure , but he won't personally go out to live with them .

I think the problem with Wei Wuxian is that because of the circumstances he grew up under , he has the tendency to intellectualise his emotions and feelings a lot . Add in the fact that he's a genuinely intelligent person, it causes ....not a very few problems .

And since the novel is primarily from his perspective he appears very rational because he's constantly analyzing the situation while being under the influence of his emotions and he *appears* and agrees with himself that he *is* acting rationally and practically .

Even under duress , or rather , especially under extreme stress , Wei Wuxian has a tendency of rather than dealing with his emotions, ignoring them and searching for a means to *cure*himself of the *problems* causing him said emotions while simultaneously counteracting the external situations presented to him .

It's not that Wei Wuxian has strict forms of morality or principles , like most people state , it's that his intellectualization often stems from a *need* of having morality he internally couldn't counter . Because he's gone too far in several cases and he really wants to not have to deal with emotions like the guilt and regret and so many unnamable emotions and having a strict code to fall back on in times of indescion .

I also think this to be a reason why he was so tremendously drawn to Lan Wangji . Curiosity and his constant need to analyse his situations and implement the appropriate characterization and mental defences .

It's a survival tactic . Because undeniably he faced abuse growing up .

Jiang Cheng haters are a different breed of haters imao . It's like every morning they wake up in their Purple Jiang Cheng Bed , throw away their Purple Jiang Cheng Covers and start agressively posting about Jiang Cheng's various Sins they saw in a dream .

Most haters I've come across are like , so weird about him . The only MDZS content they post is always about Jiang Cheng . And they constantly place every thing he does to the point that the fact he still breathes after Wei Wuxian's death as WRONG . You post bashing on another character and suddenly Jiang Cheng haters arrive in the comments like a summoned Soul Of The Damned to provide just how much worse JC is compared to everyone, ever .

What's surprising is that they don't seem to like Wei Wuxian that much either . He's only a tool to further demean JC as a character and a person .

The post isn't even about him and they're going to nitpick at it till they find a suitable phrase to post EVEN MORE HATRED over Jiang Cheng . He's mentioned in a less negetive and a somewhat neutral light and suddunly you're illiterate and lack reading comprehension to not paraphrase him as an antagonist that deserves to be held responsible for every wrong in Jianghu ever and should be put down like a rabid dog .

I think slipping in a third person between Jin Guangyao and Qin Su would do them good .

I think if that person is Jiang Cheng , it's even better . He despises political shenanigary . What worth is holding an affair over another going to gain him anyway ? Qin Su is beautiful and so is her husband . He has two lovers and no commitment, something he didn't want to nake since it could have reprucussions in the future while his sect is so unstable .

Actually , he would think currying favour with the Jin heir is even better . Not only does he have more open access to his nephew and his sister (she lives mfers) , he's given funds !!!

What more could he possibly want . Perhaps having someone on his side also provides mental stability to Jin Guangyao ( hopefully thinking) and he kills off his father far earlier . Nie Mingjue gets increasingly doted upon by Lan Xichen and Lan Xichen only because the youngest sworn brotherhood is very busy with his new wife and his mistress (?) mister (?) . So he improves , and doesn't die .

Jin *chronic people pleaser* Guangyao whose compliments are either flattery or they go extremely overboard when genuine (he compliments Lan Xichen's qugin skills by stating he's going to demolish his own because it's useless now that he's been shown *true* skill ) with Jiang *emotionally constipated with issues of selt worth so fantastically low it's surprising how he's alive* Wanyin are going to get along in either a therapy modulation way or "I'm going to make these circumstances so much worse'' way .

Qin Su herself might come to understand that her husband loves her in a different sense , that perhaps he's never seen her sexually and that he's been gay all this while . She has a lover , a doting husband and a baby that she miscarries under mysterious circumstances but she falls pregnant with another soon enough. She becomes overprotective, hyperawate of possible danger and this boy grows up well . He doesn't die and Jin Guangyao becomes a father (uncle) . Jiang Cheng has become emotionally bound to the couple now that his son / daughter is born . His loyalty is now , to the Jin , far greater.

(Arbitrarily Jin Guangyao would simply never try to endanger his reputation, something he values so much . And that he would never actually let a bastard child live as his son , it's conjecture at this point . We can still entertain bullshit etc etc )

That she was empathized with , no matter how false , for once. And she would do her utmost to uphold it .

Do you think when her sect razes in flames and screams of her shidimei and shige ring in her ears and her shidi , Husband now , comes covered in ashes and his other , other wives beside her follow him gleeful at the carnage she realises that it was never about justice . That's she was implicitly involved in burning down her home with innocent people inside ? That her shidi , Husband only wanted revenge. That's he's not who she remembers?
