Do I even need to say it
“i literally NEVER said anything about gender or gender expression the anons are the ones bringing that up”
I thought that’s why people see Will as a quintessential bottom, no?
People say they can’t imagine him being anything else but I’m confused on what that means then
Like most of the reasons folks give seem to revolve around gendered traits - even the post you reblogged brought up passivity, allegedly not liking to take the lead, etc. all while claiming it’s not about gender
which one is it 😭
If people shouldn’t subvert expectations, then doesn’t that mean they should keep them?
And what are expectations if not gendered?
“Vibes”… based on what?
I feel like people forget Will has an edge. Like he was actively flirting with Mike in the field, was he not?
I thought that's why people see Will as a quintessential bottom, no?
ermmmm no? you guys clearly think that since you keep saying it but i never said that. maybe some people have that reason but not universally
Like most of the reasons folks give seem to revolve around gendered traits - even the post you reblogged brought up passivity, allegedly not liking to take the lead, etc. all while claiming it's not about gender
YOU are the one identifying these as gendered traits. the post you are referring to described these neutrally just as characteristics will has. it’s not: will has these traits -> these are feminine traits -> will is feminine -> therefore will is a bottom. it’s that will has certain preferences which lend themselves more to that kind of role. them being considered feminine isn’t a part of the thought process. and what do you mean ‘allegedly’?
people seem to have this attitude that sexual preferences must exist in a vacuum completely separate from all other aspects of their life and personality, but when all we have is their personality and theyre fictional i’m confused where you want people to get their reasoning from? you seem to think it must either be completely neutral and they’re both vers or you have to go based on their personality and then just completely flip it? i’m obviously not the best person to exemplify this, but i know that my sexuality is very tied to my personality and psychology my general preferences in life.
If people shouldn't subvert expectations, then doesn't that mean they should keep them?
And what are expectations if not gendered?
i’m not saying you can’t subvert expectations at all, but there seems to be no rhyme or reason behind doing so. i also am not saying anyone HAS to have the same opinion as me at all. i didn’t say ‘nobody should think will would top’ i just said i don’t know why people think that and i disagree. expectations are often gendered, but in this case i am talking about expectations based mostly on personality. both for will and mike.
"Vibes" … based on what?
well the whole point of vibes is they aren’t really based on anything. but maybe the aspects of his character that chloe mentioned 🤷🏻♀️
I feel like people forget Will has an edge. Like he was actively flirting with Mike in the field, was he not?
now this just makes me laugh. an edge? flirting with someone means you have an edge?? 😭 i don’t think being flirty is strictly non-bottom behaviour at all 😭 it’s like how people will use screenshots of mike being attracted to will as proof he wants will to top him 😭 like attraction and flirting in itself is not a signifier of sexual roles, it kinda has to go both ways…
Having a "stupider people have done this" attitude about the things you want to do can open so many doors

This was kinda of a crazy project but I also love it dearly, so all worth it! Well at least I hope you'll love it too, enjoy! 💙
This might be a weird or controversial take, i dunno, but I kinda need to get it off my chest.
In so many posts and fanfics it's always this thing of 'oh will is in love with his sisters boyfriend' and 'el would feel weird about her ex dating her brother' and like I kinda get it, but I think this kind of simplifies the dynamic between the three of them in a way that does them a disservice?
Like I'm sorry to say it but El and Will are not that close. I'm not saying they don't care about each other, but they were living together for what, six months? We never see them bond or be that close, the only thing was Will trying to console her after her presentation, but it's kinda obvious she is not really letting him in emotionally. In the show both of them are shown to be emotionally closer to Mike than to each other. They are not open with each other even if they care about one another, which makes their dynamic interesting and unique in its own way.
And I think they both know to some degree that Mike is the big unspoken thing standing between them. El is not dumb, she knows how much Will means to Mike, and subconsciously I can see her being jealous of it. And she cares about Will, too, but she also has so so much of her own emotional baggage to deal with, so it probably feels safer for her to keep him at a certain distance. Before S4 they have barely spoken to each other and Will was actively resenting her in S3. To just turn around and make their dynamic into that of close siblings is just off to me, especially in regards to the whole Mike thing that's been sitting between them before they ever lived together. And to pretend like these feelings of resentment and jealousy they have of each other, because they know how much the other means to Mike, would just disappear because they live together as siblings just doesn't feel realistic to me? Like it's so much more complicated than just 'oh we live together and we're siblings now, so it would weird if you're close with Mike', when Will and Mike were close first??? And El knows this! I don't think Will as her brother and Mike as her boyfriend are these seperated things for her, she is very aware of the bond between them.
I don't know, I just don't think El is as oblivious to Mike's feelings towards Will as a lot of people think, and to me it seems like it's a big part of why she is not as close to Will as people make it seem. Like I think to her Will is Mike's best friend first and foremost, the one he so desperately wanted to find when he was missing in S1, before she considers him her brother.
I hope this makes any sense, lol, and obviously everyone can explore these dynamics in fanfictions as they want, but I think this gets oversimplified sometimes and to me this kinda takes away from how interesting and complicated and kinda sad El and Will's relationship actually is.
So Stranger Things is basically a terrible modern remake of the Stranger Things VHS edition made by Brenner because history was being rewritten by the victors.
It starts as a faithful adaptation (S1/S2), then loses the plot—the heart—halfway through by watering down sensitive 80s topics (S3), adds a bunch of new characters (S4), and censors the queer relationship because "gay people didn't exist back then" (S5).
No confirmation yet, but releasing VHS editions of the show, one season at a time, starting with S1 today, would be the smartest move Netflix could make with the series.
They could gradually add new content from season to season, leading up to S5. Then, finally, release S5 in its originally rumored duration, with an extra 1–2 hours per episode, or even better, a Side B.
Maybe the changes wouldn't be obvious in S1, but the GA would slowly realize there's actually new content as the differences become more significant, thanks to Brenner's tape manipulation. That would naturally encourage people to revisit the show from the beginning (= more subscriptions).
They could release all five seasons over the span of five months, in one season per month style (= more subscriptions), ending it with S5 properly on November 6.
I'd take this if Netflix is committed to it.
my favoutire miwi moment is S01E08 when mike says "bye, will!!" and then right after [in an extreme will-voice] he says "see you, will!!"

Adding to this: basically what I was trying to say is I don't think El would see Will dating Mike as this big sibling betrayal, because she knows Will is and always has been closer to Mike than to her. Can and would she still be mad? Sure, maybe, depends on how it happens, but I think a lot of that anger would be more directed at Mike rather than Will.

ID: A youtube comment with 11 likes by Niceone, it says "I've lived 46 years without knowing this. How nice of life to save some of the best bites for later." End ID.
Normally, people tend to get frustrated, even jokingly, if they miss out on something. This comment was on a song from 1974 and it made me smile quite much. Simply appreciative. Like a dessert after dinner.
It is genuinely mind blowing to me just how many Tumblr posts have changed my life for the better and taught me to be happier. Not all of the thoughts originate on Tumblr, but the way people collect and frame them has literally changed my brain chemistry.
how do i explain to ppl that my favorite show is the stranger things subtext. no not stranger things. the subtext.
