If(or more like when)Jopper happens, and if Will or El dies, do you think that Hopper and Joyce still will be able to be happy together?
I feel this premise is a bit dark. I hope it’s just a hypothetical because priorities seem to be out of whack here. Still, a question is a question.
We’ve seen how both Joyce and Hopper deal with the loss of a child. Hopper completely shuts himself out from everything and everyone. He even felt the need to get away and hide in a stairwell in order to grieve for his daughter. His controlling behavior and intense fear of loss follow him through the show and hinder his relationships with those he cares for the most. For her part, Joyce was a wreck when Will was missing/presumed dead. She went through severe denial, leaving Jonathan to step up despite his own grief. While the audience knew that strange(r) things were going on that would explain Will’s disappearance, the characters don’t, so we do get to see how Joyce would cope with an actual death of her child.
Should Joyce and Hopper get together, which I think will be worked towards but not necessarily be successful, their relationship would likely not survive the loss of Will or El. At that point they would each see both of them as their child, likely resulting in the above reactions to grief playing out again. In such a traumatic moment, people can be highly dependent on their loved ones to help them through it. Hopper’s detachment and Joyce’s denial would likely form a rift between them. Coping methods (healthy or not) are not always complementary in couples, and it can lead to friction. In this case, I would imagine Joyce would get frustrated at Hopper’s detachment, as she would be looking for some clue that El/Will was still alive. Hopper, having shut down his emotions to try and protect himself, would callously scream back that he/she’s dead and that she needs to stop with the craziness. It would actually darkly mirror their interactions early in Season 3 when Joyce was obsessed with the magnets and Jim grew more and more impatient.
Fortunately, I don’t think either Will or El will die. They might tease it, but I don’t think it would happen. First of all, neither of their names start with a B, and that’s apparently a big deal on this show. Second, I firmly believe that the show is ultimately about Will. They might make it look like El and/or Will die at one point, but reveal it as an illusion or nightmare or something.
I’ve toyed with the notion that El might go dark (she’s had issues with possessiveness and anger), but they’ve worked too hard to show she has a good heart to the point that I just don’t think it’d work well. If that did happen, it might require lethal force to stop her, as she’d be very dangerous if she got her powers back. I sometimes wonder if the creature inside her leg wasn’t entirely removed and is why she still doesn’t have her powers. If she isn’t able to be saved from that and needs to be killed, then I imagine Hopper would still react the same way. It’d still be losing a daughter for a second time, and he’d probably also feel worse that he let it all happen. Still, this isn’t Game of Thrones. Killing off El (or Will for that matter) would come off as needlessly edgy.
In the end, I think the closest we’d get to either one dying is a fake out or false foreshadowing. We might even see Joyce and/or Hopper react in a way I’ve mentioned above. Ultimately, however, I think their reactions would be signs of larger issues that would make a relationship difficult anyway. We might see them get together, but I don’t like their long-term odds, even if we don’t get to see how it plays out.
Just saw this post again and feel the need to comment now that St5 has happened and truly sunk in.
We are meant to believe El is Dead (and her frozen corpse is floating in the abyss) or she has mysteriously squirreled away to Iceland (if we take Mike's cope ending at face value.)
Hopper (eventhough logically this should wreck him and place him into a worse state mentally than we see Mike because he lost a second daughter) seems to be completely A-Okay.
Hopper even seems to be okay enough mentally, and Jopper as a couple seems to be doing well enough, to propose to Joyce in Enzo's at the end of the show.
Yes I know eighteen months has passed (again?! What a fucking joke of a season to have two eighteen month time skips in) but Hopper lost a daughter, again. Joyce has now lost an adoptive daughter in El too so how is she not the one coming up with 'crazy' she's really alive theories alongside Mike?
Everyone lost El.
Not just Mike. So why is he the only one shown to care / be in mourning?
She is not a concept of "childhood magic" that everyone needs to get over to live out thier (debatable in Mike's case) happy endings.
El was the main character of the series, arguably right next to Will.
And it is insulting that the Duffer Bro's try to play it off otherwise with thier cookie cutter, yet simultaneously bizarre epilogue.
El deserves better.
It's painful to look back on these older posts now that we saw where it was all ultimately heading.
What happened seemed so impossible, yet here we are. Not only did they kill off El, only to be all "well, maybe she did survive, but we're not telling," but they also reduced her from a person to a concept. Plus, they made her only important to Mike in the end. There was no funeral scene, no expression of unsaid sentiments from other characters, nothing. We just skip to 18 months later where Mike is the only one with any lasting impact from her having been there. Had he not disappeared on graduation day, it would have appeared as if El had never been there.
And they're proud of their work. For shame.
All of this☝️.
The utter disrespect that was given to El astounds me.
Both the losses of Eddie (who we knew for one season) and Billy (who is a more contraversial character and spent the majority of his time in the role of antagonist both willingly in St2 and unwillingly in St3) were given more dignity to thier heroic deaths and more screentime was given to the fallout on key characters (including Dustin visiting Eddie's grave and Max visiting Billy's - who visits El's? No one is shown to. Does she even have one?)
To add insult, El also gets a suicidal death, that was avoidable, because the big bad Vecna (and by extension the Mind Flayer) already lost in a pathetically short battle beforehand. Kali's prior urging that she and El must die to end this come off as her trauma talking because of the death of her found family and being retraumatised by the lab, rather than having any logic behind it.
El's death is also something that barely anyone, bar Mike, is shown to mourn - which makes the rest of them, due to the poor writing, look like assholes.
Not only that, but the military could in theory, even with El, Kali and Henry dead still recreate Brenner's experiment's because his notes are still out there floating around somewhere since the UD has a copy of them.
If(or more like when)Jopper happens, and if Will or El dies, do you think that Hopper and Joyce still will be able to be happy together?

I like you so much. Not just you, everything that comes with you. Your family, your boys.
We love Boyce in this house.
This is easily the best (established) relationship on the show so far. They were just so full of love for each other.
Will Byers did not suffer more than El and to think they are even comparable is LAUGHABLE.
one thing i'll never really understand is why mike put in all that effort to apologise to will after the s3 rain fight, yet he didn't ever end up actually apologising? like yeah, ig the supernatural plot distracted him the first time he was planning to, but why did he never make another attempt???
"It happened off-screen."
No, but, seriously, stuff like this just calls the Duffers' writing into question even more. I guess they wanted us to see their conversation in the ending of season 3 as a sign that they had cleared the air at some point. But they just went and made Mike screw up again the next season. It became Mike's trademark, to be honest.
They wrote Mike to just be a jerk who ignores Will...while oddly keeping an eye on him at all times. Then he apologizes, sort of, while stressing how important Will is to him.
Except it's apparently just so he can apply the lessons he learned towards his relationship with El?
And he ends up doing it all over again, anyway.
It really doesn't do the Duffers any favors when they insist there was never any romantic reciprocation there, and that Will only ever had a crush to begin with.
Why does Mike repeatedly screw up with Will at the same time he's screwing up with El?
Why does he make it clear that he actually has been paying attention to Will all along, even though he was trying to act like he wasn't?
Why does he have to make things right with Will first before he can do so with El?
On its face, it now looks like it was all to keep Will from ever being able to move on. All the sweet things that Mike does reminds him of why he fell for Mike in the first place, even though (according to the Duffers) Mike is just being a good friend who is bad at feelings.
So, I guess, from a storytelling perspective, the reason he doesn't apologize is that it would have required a conversation that would have made it harder to continue their plans for Will. They needed him to go through two more seasons of humiliation, and that would have been harder if they had that conversation.
Though, considering that they seemed to have this conversation in season 4, leading to Will accepting defeat and pushing Mike to fix things with El, only for him to paradoxically think he has a chance with Mike in the final season, maybe they're just terrible writers who had no sense of long-term planning.
hey i noticed some people on the fandom who criticized your post about will. when you mentioned about bar in the 90s and that you didn’t like the ending they gave to will.
i completely agreed with you but some will stans criticized you on their page.
i think it was important to tell you
Oh, I noticed, but thank you. I just ignore all that.
People can get angry all they want, but it's misplaced if it's directed at me. I'm just pointing out the ending the Duffers gave.
Let's be clear. I'm older than most people around here. By a lot. I was alive in the early 90s when Will's epilogue flash forward or whatever it was supposed to be took place. Not old enough to go to a gay bar, mind you, but still. I know the situation a lot better than most people around here.
Even if Will was very careful and only looking for serious relationships (which a lot of people were), the fact remains that the culture at the time encouraged sleeping around. That's club life, whether it's gay or straight. A big reason why gay men got such a bad reputation for this is because a gay bar was one of the few places gay people could even safely meet. Going to a coffee shop or library to meet a nice guy wasn't exactly in the cards. So, if Will is going to gay bars, there's a good chance that any guys he meets there have been with other guys, and, yes, like it or not, HIV was a huge concern in the gay community in the early 90s.
Another thing people got mad about was saying that Mike and Will may never have spoken again. And, to me, based on how little we got about either of their endings, there's no reason to think they stay in touch. It's the early 90s, there's no cell phones, yet. Well, there are, but they were insanely expensive at the time, and they wouldn't start to become mainstream until the end of the decade. We already saw them lose touch before when Will moved away. If we're to take Mike's endings for them all to be flash forwards and not just his predictions, then he spends his days writing stories to try to avoid accepting that El is gone while pining away for her, meanwhile, Will is off in the big city. Given what we know of Mike, he's not likely to reach out to Will. He'll assume that Will is happier where he is.
The Duffers made a big deal about their endings being "realistic" when questioned about their decisions. I'm just taking that idea to an uncomfortable place because it's clear the Duffers never even thought about it.
Then there's the matter of Robin. People thought my take on her was homophobic. I take no pride in pointing out what the Duffers did to her. As well-meaning as she was in season 5, she made a lot of presumptions about Will, most of all that his situation with Mike was the same as hers with Tammy. But she didn't have any of the backstory to see that, while Tammy was just a girl Robin barely knew, Mike had been the most important person in Will's life for most of his life. She can be forgiven for that, because, as I said, she meant well. The real crime the Duffers created with her was how she treated Vickie. She had been habitually lying to her (with reason, I admit), but all we really see of their relationship is hot and heavy making out. Combined with her reaction to Will's questioning, assuming he wanted to know how someone wants to make out, when he wanted to know about dating, suggests that their relationship is mostly physical, or at least was at the start.
The homophobic stereotype is the Duffers', not mine. I'm just pointing it out. It's clear there's not an emotional closeness between Robin and Vickie, which, yeah, all the lying would make it difficult to be close like that. Vickie is genuinely concerned for Robin to the point that, even though she's furious at her, she wants to get her help. But Robin doesn't seem to reciprocate that. She's dismissive of Vickie's concerns after she learns the truth. I get that Robin would be somewhat desensitized to it all, but it's shockingly insensitive. Their last in-person conversation is Vickie asking if the Upside Down atmosphere is safe to breath (which is a valid question we never got a real answer to), only for Robin to brush is off with "unclear." Ok, end of conversation, I guess. Their last conversation, period, was over the walkies. Vickie was asking about the state of the mission, and Robin told her to not be stressed, and Vickie says she'll bottle her emotions.
That's it. That's how their interactions end. I may have exaggerated a bit with how I characterized Robin's reactions to Vickie, but, come on, they're meant to be dating. But come the epilogue, Robin is asking Nancy is there's any hot babes at college and mentions "overbearing significant others."
The Duffers decided to act coy about whether they were still together, but it's pretty clear they wouldn't be. That is, if the Duffers even gave the subject any thought when writing the epilogue. It's clear to me that they saw the LGBT characters as nothing more than a means to an end. Robin's arc existed to move Will's arc foward in the final season (after him having three seasons of the exact. same. arc.), and Will's arc existed to move along the sci-fi plot. Both get largely forgotten and given bland endings after Will comes out.
I should be allowed to point all this out without people getting mad at me.
And calling me homophobic? Guys, I'm a middle aged bisexual. It doesn't make me homophobic to point out homophobic writing. The problem some people have is that seeing me point it out conflicts with their headcanons of the characters. Well, I'm sorry if it's uncomfortable, but it's just what the actual canon states. I understand why you're mad. You should be. I am, too. We got a shit ending, and our beloved characters were treated as disposable caricatures of who they previously seemed to be.
I don't like it, either. The difference is that I direct my anger where it belongs: the Duffers.
I don't really like Mileven, but to be honest, some shippers really act like Mileven killed their grandma. You'd think it's some insanely demonic ship from the way some people talk about it. Like guys it's never that serious. Yeah, obviously the ship wasn't written that nicely but which ship was written good besides Lumax past S2? Because tbh, Jancy and Jopper started to get worse after S2 too. Also this is not to say I dislike Lumax but tbh Lumax kinda took a toll on Lucas's character and individual writing. They had a nice chemistry but the story didn't do their characters justice with balanced writing.
Like lets be real, lots of people treat Mileven as some sort of anomaly, as if all the other ships or writing decisions on this show were good but this ship? It was the worst thing ever! despite all the romances being written tediously for many seasons on the show....

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
Imao stranger things stans keep talking about ships when actually we should talk about how the main female character got nerfed and sidelined to prop up the male character (Will)
They gave Eleven's WHOLE storyline to him, even the fucking rivalry with Henry and the friendship with Max
Lol the writers can go to hell
Do not get me wrong, I love Will and I hated the fact that the duffers sidelined him so much in the third and fourth season but narratively they boxed themselves in on that one. I can never forgive them for what they did to El. Why was the only way to make him 'useful' have to be what should rightfully belong to El. Why was the only way to keep him a worthy character was to drag El down.
We saw the whole laughing and hugging scene with Max, When that should rightfully have been Els, considering the fact that the two of them (max and will) hardly interacted as compared to Max and El.
And sure you can say that it happened off screen— love the friendships blooming, But why in the everloving hell did you nerf the original friendship. What happened to the bond that we saw in season 3 and 4. That was doing El dirty.
And the whole Henry storyline, give me a break. BECAUSE WDYM WILL RELATED TO HIM MORE. More than the girl who shared years upon years of torture and trauma with him? They have got to be fucking with me.
Will's powers are innate? NO THEY FUCKING AREN'T, at best they are borrowed. It doesn't come from within him, it doesn't belong to him, it brought him no grief, so in what godamn way are they innate?
And here is the parallel that make me want to actually commit to killing the Duffers.
While El's powers brought her nothing but sorrow her entire life no matter how hard she fought, Will's powers brought him a sense of peace and were what ended the war.
And don't get me started on the whole childhood magic rhetoric they're pushing.
YOU HAVE GOT TO BE FUCKING WITH ME.
[ I will tear these writers to shreds I kid you not, uppercase letters are not enough to convey the rage in my words]
All the fucked up decisions they made were all made to make El seem less human, more detached. Think about it. Cutting off her friendship with Max, cutting of her connection to Jonathan, only connecting her to Will for plot convenience, no connection to Lucas, none with Dustin limited interactions with everyone really
The only people she really talked to, were Hopper, Kali and Mike. Arguably the people who would end up grieving her the most. And they even in the end you see Hopper at peace with it. Sure okay whatever man. Guess Ya'll grew up or whatever. Yeah you grew up long after you actually grew up it seems. I call Bullshit.
Good to know you never cared about her at all.
Everyone and their mothers can say that Will was the main character, but I will never ever believe that. Fuck this shit. I'm so glad we got the show but jesus christ, it's like Daenerys and Natasha all over again. I'm sick and tired of the women who deserve the world getting nothing but pain and grief and suffering no matter how hard they fight. I HATE IT I HATE IT I HATE IT.
You can have a character that doesn't get punishments or gets reprimanded from their bad actions while the character who's done nothing wrong and is just trying their best gets punished and reprimanded for no or the wrong reasons. As long as there is one perfectly sane character that hates the unfairness of the fucking situation. Be it a different person or the good person.
Or at least make the good one have resentment over the little shit that gets away with everything cuz that's pretty fuckin realistic. Even if it's not obvious, they're denying it, or only realize it later on.
Or have a character that immediately shoots down the idea or anyone trying to justify their actions.
It's realistic to have someone that gets away with shit but damn it's also realistic for at least one or two people that despise them.
I wholeheartedly agree that touya burning on Sekoto Peak doesn't make sense. And even if we take Hori's and Touya himself's explanation as plausible that he simply lost control of his fire due to strong emotions / mental breakdown and didn't know how to put it out bcuz he has never been taught to, it makes Endeavor and to an extent Rei look extra bad than they already are. Endeavor neglected touya bcuz he thought negleting him would make touya stop hurting himself by training and using his quirk. But if touya's emotion causes him to lose control of the said quirk that means he is never safe from it even if he doesn't use it cause he is human. We humans feel strong emotions all the time and there are so many intances we have breakdowns and such but we dont have to worry about literally burning to death for feeling such emotions, also Touya IS an emotional, sensitive person in general. Even if he didnt burn in sekoto, there could be lots of intances in his life, where his quirk would flare up just bcuz of feeling. What if he had a mental breakdown at his own home and lost control? We would have seen an shimura massacre 2.0 but this time tenko himself is also dead. If we are supposed to take everything that happened in Sekoto as plausible, that means touya was never ever safe from his qurik, even if he didnt use it intentionally. He is biologically doomed thanks to a qurik experiment. The only way to keep hI'm safe, is to keep hI'm emotionally stable and both endeavor and rei royall failed in that as well by neglecting him, so their "concerns" about keeping him safe is null and void.
Now ik both endeavor and rei wouldn't have possibly known that their little quirk marriage would have some big catastrophic consequences on someone else suffering from their choices, they could have had a love marriage and touya could still be born with his defects. But the fact is they DIDN'T, it was a clear cut quirk marriage (Endeavor canonically states it seemed like an arranged marriage/imai but both him and rei herself knew it was a qurik marriage and rei agreed it to for her family's sake) , genetic experiment in scientific terms, makes it.....worse to me, if i put myself on touya's shoes.
Like from Touya's prespective, what do you mean that you both actively participated in a genetic lab experiment which gave me lifelong life threatening biological defects? And then neglect me and dont give me love and suppot bcuz I failed CAUSE of YOUR failures and life choices as persons. Tbh, touya's body horror is enough imo for him to have immense hatred towards his parents, bcuz he knows they weren't in love or anything they actively chose to make babies out of selfish desires , I know I would have hated my "parents" for that to the point of murder. But thats js one part, we also have the early indoctrination then replacement then neglect, the lack of supportive enviornment, unconditional love and abusive on top of another 💀🙏 Enji and to very small extent Rei did not give this child a break ever since he was fucking born....no before he was even born 😭.
(Also the fact that even after touya's diagnostic doc told enjI not to birth more children cause designer babies are taboos, but he kept going anyway 💀)
Poor touya, really. My heart shatters into a million pieces for him.
Also in any case, all of the things i said during the whole post was from touya's perspective . Many people come at me saying, "oh but the todorkis did love him and its not wrong to have kids to fullfill a purpose in japanese culture bla bla" - I know, its canon, I dont really care though. This is all from touya's prespective, his psychology and how he saw things and felt.
Yes…
the fact that they didn’t let that pretentious ass boy talk about music in two VERY music oriented seasons pisses me off SO MUCH.
Autism and Hot Weather

"ai artwork"
It sure was convenient that the inside of the Mindflayer had so many spikes in it, wasn't it?
Spikes on the outside? Sure, ok, those would be used to attack and protect (despite Vecna never possibly expecting an attack on his home turf), but inside?
Seriously, what purpose would those serve? It's so contrived.
Someone said Will's necklace in the epilogue could be indian-origin, and I remembered that we see Joyce's style include traditional indian wear (Like Kurtas).
This implies that maybe Will started wearing his mother's jewellery after he came out and I just think that's so cute 🥺💗
