If Bruce is taking a nap on the couch, the moment he lifts his blanket up, sooner or later, someone is snuggled right next to him
This was something he would always do with his parents. It wasnât often that Thomas or Martha had a lot of time for him. And it was even rarer that they werenât denying him because he needed to be a proper young man, and sleeping on the couch simply wasn't that.
Rarely would they allow Bruce to sneak into their room and seek the comforts of his parentsâ presence. But once every blue moon, someone would be too tired to make it all the way up the stairs, and they would crash on the couch. More often than not, it was his father, tired from a long day at the hospital. He could count on one finger how many times his mother indulged him.
But it brought him such comfort to be close to his parents and doze off without a care in the world. When they died, he thought he would never get to feel that again.
When Bruce adopted Dick, it was the first time in years that he had comfortably slept by another body. It wasnât someone that he had picked up just to try and feel something, or a pillow that he would hug and pretend it was someone who loved him. Dick was a touchy child, and Bruce used that to his advantage.
More often than not, Dick was the one actively seeking Bruce out to take a nap with him on the couch. Bruce will always be thankful that this didnât go away when Dick grew up and became an adult. There was no embarrassment between the two of them, and Bruce made sure that Dick understood that no matter where their relationship was, he would always be up for some couch time.
Jason was a lot more hesitant. He had been through things. Bruce would never push, but he was elated when Jason snuck under his blanket after coming home from a long day at school. There was a soft storm outside, with rain gently pattering on the study's windowpanes. It was perfect for a cuddle session.
When Jason came back, it was hard. Bruce couldn't just jump into things they used to do. It took a while, a long while, but eventually Jason would tentatively be in the room when Bruce decided to take a nap on the couch. He wouldnât approach him, staying at the edge of the room and just watching, but Bruce could feel his presence in his sleep. Slowly but surely, Jason moved closer and closer until he was slipping under the blanket when Bruce lifted it up, snuggling up to Bruce quietly.
With Tim, Bruce actually had to go out of his way to invite him. Tim kept his distance, unsure of his position in Bruceâs life with his fractured mental health. He didnât want to be a replacement for Jason, but he did want Bruceâs attention. Bruce needed to be direct and assure Tim that he wanted him, not as a replacement but as his own person.
Bruce tentatively asked if Tim wanted to take a nap with him on the couch, and from there, Tim never hesitated again. He doesnât do it often, preferring to bury himself in his blankets on his bed, but he doesnât like taking short naps with Bruce while the TV is playing softly in the background. If itâs been too long without some Timmy cuddles, he will suck up his pride and ask.
He didnât need to explain why this was an activity that he liked to do to Cass. She probably snooped around and found some hidden scrapbooks in the attic, with him napping on the couch with his parents. He wouldnât put it past her.
Bruce will look up from his paperwork, absolutely done with the world, just to see her standing at his doorway carrying her favorite blanket and glancing over at the couch. Itâs like she knows when he needs a break. She loves to be wrapped up in his arms, hand pressed against his chest to feel his heartbeat.
Damian found no point in cuddling. It hurt Bruce at first, and he became closed off on the topic around Damian, desperately trying not to make him uncomfortable. Then, he got his head out of his ass (without anyoneâs help, thank you) and realized that the kind of environment Damian grew up in didnât exactly allow for him to think needless physical contact was gentle or necessary.
Bruce was patient and told his son stories of napping with his parents and napping with all his siblings. He told Damian that it was okay if he never wanted to participate, but it was enjoyable and not a sign of weakness, and he would love it if Damian took at least one nap with him. When Damian came to Bruce voluntarily for the first time, when Bruce lifted the blanket up, he was so happy and excited that he didnât actually nap and just watched his youngest doze.
Steph is never shy in anything that she does, but⊠Their relationship didn't start out great, and it didn't end off great.
Bruce never asked her, and she never asked Bruce. But one day, seemingly out of the blue, Bruce woke up from a couch nap to a face full of wild blonde hair. When she didnât get any complaints from him, she would pop in every once in a while, always after Bruce had drifted off, and with extra blankets so Bruce would overheat. He still never complained, though.
Duke also isnât shy, but heâs a bit awkward about taking up space in the house. Heâs got his own family, indisposed, but he does have them. But Bruce is understanding and soft and never forces Duke to ever do anything that he doesnât want to do.
Duke likes the safety of it all. He knows Bruce is human, but everything that heâs done and all that he will do, itâs nice that Bruceâs hugs are gentle and warm. It's nice that he didn't lose that part of himself. Duke likes to leave out snacks on the table for when they wake up, just to stay with Bruce a little longer.
No bets are off when it comes to napping with Dad. Blackmail, threats, and physical violence will be used to get to Dad first and nap with him. They do back off if one of them is having an especially bad day, but it needs to be really, really bad.
