no. actually, children now feel comfortable and accepted enough to experiment with their gender, pronouns, name, and presentation. and while some of them end up realizing they were cis the entire time, they now have a new understanding and appreciation for one of the most marginalized and abused groups of people in the world.

Also quite honestly, if kids are detransitioning- so what? Honestly, good for them.

Nobody is doing surgery on trans kids. Nobody is doing anything more than MAYBE puberty blockers (which are clinically proven to be safe and are also the go to treatment for cis kids going through precocious puberty). If they decide that actually they're not the gender they thought they were, GOOD.

I want kids to feel safe trying things out. I want kids to experiment with their self expression, be it clothes or hair or gender. If it turns out to be "just a phase" I would far rather it be a phase that they are loved and supported through rather than something they feel is shameful and that they have to hide. I want them to feel like there's no pressure to go one way or the other, just to feel safe to figure themselves out in whatever way makes them comfortable.

Protect trans kids. Protect detrans kids. Protect questioning kids. Full fucking stop.

Posted this on Twitter: I'm tired of the fear over trans kids. My son thought he's trans. Lived a year with different clothes, name and pronouns. Came back and said "I think I'm not a girl after all." We switched things back. Poof!

Side effects: he knows he'll have support in journeys of self discovery.

There's literally no harm. None. Years later and he's so open with me about his feelings and his needs. He knows I'll take him seriously and stand by him. He was never in danger just existing for a while as a trans kid, even though he didn't turn out to be one.

Literally I don't understand the fearmongering over trans kids. Medically transitioning and realizing you were wrong DOES have many side effects that can't be reversed. Letting younger children experiment with their gender and find out if they actually identify that way is much safer than making them figure it out after medically transitioning.

My roommate is a cis man who sometimes makes lady characters in video games because why not? So when he started a new VR game and made a lady character, he didn’t think anything of it.

But then he heard the NPCs talking about him with fem pronouns. He got miss/ma’am’d - and indeed, milady’d. This had never bothered him in non-VR games, but in VR it’s much easier to feel like you are actually in the room. They’re not talking about the avatar you control; they’re talking about you. They’re looking at you.

Then he happened across a mirror. He saw his pretty lady character instead of his internal picture of what his body looks like. He moved and saw his avatar’s body move in sync.

And it was so unsettling that he started over with a new character. He asked if that was what dysphoria was like. I told him “yeah, that’s def in the ballpark” and he was floored, like, “HOLY SHIT, how does anyone deal?”

And sometimes I wish I could shove people into a VR headset and give them that experience.

also yes, of course I tried the game with a male character. I went straight for the mirror and it sounds silly but I was honestly awe-stricken and almost cried. Yet another “yep, definitely trans” moment.

My friend M. is facing serious job insecurity and her utilities are days away from being shut off (she's behind on payments, largely because of criminally high utility charges) and is having to debate forgoing needed medical supplies/aids in the hopes that skipping them will allow her to scrap by enough to keep the electricity on.
