This is a ridiculous conclusion. Using common sense is not putting the chance of rape on someone else.

When you don’t walk down a dark alley alone at night to avoid robbery or murder that isn’t you wishing robery or death on others thats common sense.

What else are people supposed to do to prevent rape? Do you really think rapists care that what they’re doing is wrong? They know that, they don’t care.

The fact that there is a girl out there that doesn’t take judo classes does not mean you should not. You should always know self defence.

I cannot believe this post exists and yet, here it is. Again.

@ all the people agreeing above: did you not stop for a moment to think about what this post seems to be insinuating? Rapists, murderers and thieves can’t be eradicated, because rape, murder, and theft are not taught behaviours. There will always be bad people doing bad things, and that’s not because of any sort of social conditioning. It’s just the way the world is. No matter what modern feminism tells you, the world does not condone those things. Rapists, murderers and thieves already know that what they’re doing is wrong. They don’t care. Being told that what they’re doing is wrong will not stop them.

So, if you cannot eradicate these crimes, and refuse to accept tips for avoiding becoming victims of these crimes because “there will always be another girl”, then what, exactly, is the proposal here?? Take one for the team??? Cause that’s what this always sounds like to me.

The world is not a completely safe place. It never will be. This, unfortunately, is an inevitable consequence of humans being… human, and of evil and insane humans just existing. No amount of campaigning or socialisation will ever make this world completely safe. Just learn some self defence, ffs.

couple things..... first off, I agree with multiple parties here. This is a difficult situation where both sides need to be understood. As stated, it is in women’s/men’s best interest to know some form of self defense. Classes, mace, a knife.... it’s important to make careful decisions when you’re going out. Where you’re going, who you’re with, what you’re consuming. That isn’t “putting it on the female”, that’s having common sense. Because unfortunately we live in a society where rape and assault happens. However... also as stated above, rape isn’t taught. We don’t live in a rape culture. There will always be cases of course, but overall as a society? For America, at least? Nah. Don’t even come at me with that bullshit. But anyway.. OP and others agreeing were making points that had substance. It is important to take certain things into consideration but in the end? What s/he wore, where s/he was.. the incident wasn’t their fault. Because a mentally ill, fucked up mind would have raped the wo(man)who was dressed conservatively or was sober. As for the proposal? We keep shouting until our voices are heard, because we never know who is listening or who it could impact. We let survivors know we support them and that we’ll do what we can to be there for them. We take precautions. We make sure we’re safe. It’s both, really. Simply learning self defense and going about our day isn’t going to solve anything either. It really comes down to understanding both sides and finding middle ground.... at the end of the day, it isn’t the victims fault. No matter their dress, no matter their consumption of substances. That is, I think, what everyone else’s point was. And they’re absolutely right.
