A Party (or “Can I please have one fucking drink?”)

Valentina presses the shot glass into Cammie’s hand. “Drink.”

“Huh?”

“Drink it.” She throws back her shot of clear liquor and smiles. “Go on. You’re always whining about how we won’t let you drink, so drink.”

Cammie takes a deep sniff and her nose scrunches in disgust. “Smells like paint thinner.”

“It’s good.”

“It smells like it’s gonna–”

Yazmin pulls the glass away before the petite blonde can finish the her sentence. “No.”

“But!”

“No. You know the rules, Cammie.”

“Spoilsport.” Cammie’s headwear echos her dampened mood, which doesn’t last long until Chase is begging her to “try this classic Siege” level. When she comes back, Kazu pushes a can towards her while Yaz’s back is turned.

“早く! 彼女が見る前に.” (”Hayaku! Kanajo ga miru mae ni”, meaning “Quickly! Before she sees.”)

She raises the can to her mouth, gets two good gulps in, when…

“Cammie!”

She tries to sink into the couch. “Kazoo gave it to me!”

“Kazu!”

He pulls the offending beverage from her hand and drinks from it with a sorry shrug. “Yeah, yeah…”

Chase starts arguing, “C’mon, Yaz. It’s not like we’re gonna let her get drunk.”

“And what would Dr. Weller think?”

He’s English, he wouldn’t care, she thinks but doesn’t say.

She’s sulking in the corner when Dr. Weller walks in. “Problem, Cammie?”

“They won’t let me party with the rest of them. It’s not like I’m gonna get plastered, or some shite, I just want one drink.”

“I’ll see what I can do.” The scientist stands back up and leaves the room. Before long, he returns with a glass of amber liquid. “Got this for you.”

Her ears and her face perk up almost instantly. “Is that…”

“Yes. Real deal. From Scotland. Enjoy.”

“But Yaz…”

“Don’t worry.” He winks in a friendly manner. “I’m technically in charge here. Enjoy your party.” He gives her a gentle shove towards the rest of the group.

Yaz almost immediately turns towards him, and he raises a hand. “Let her be.”

As he leaves the room, he hears Cammie call, “I don’t care if I had some of yours, this one’s mine!”

He smiles to himself. A little sister, indeed.

So in your child Au, did Cammie always have separation anxiety or did it develop (if the latter, how)? Also why was Valentina on the streets?

Cammie develops separation anxiety after losing her parents. How her parents have died, I haven’t quite settled on yet.

Valentina didn’t have a home to begin with. I don’t know how much I will delve into for past information such as parents, other family members, or how exactly she got to the time and place where Weller found her.

I personally see Valentina as a child who knew she would be taken by the Union if she didn’t run, and therefore she ran and hid. She didn’t want them to take custody of her and she would rather be without a home.

I would like her to also be helping other kids in the same situation as her, hence why she acts older than what she is, she had to grow up quickly and adapt to her surroundings to be able to help other kids and herself.
