HEAR ME OUT!!!! What if characters from the Hobbit were like Slimes from Slime Rancher 1 & 2?????? Anyways here's that:
Bilbo - I think he would be a Tangle Slime, I remember on my first playthrough when I went to the Glass Desert there was this cute slime it was so flowery that I brought it back to my ranch. Then it started eating all my Hen Hens and plucking them from the ground and consuming them whole. Which fits Bilbo's whole unassuming vibe.
Thorin - Boom Slime, I think in a different universe where he didn't y'know die, he would be much more mild in his nature, you would take him back to your ranch, learn more about him and then BAM! he explodes and hurts you. He can't help it, it's in his nature. And yet he is not valued and instead taken off your ranch.
Fili - Hyper Slime, I have to admit I don't know a lot about this slime's nature but what I do know is that it is fast. It glows golden like the sun and is hyper. Exactly like how Fili was before... This one might be a stretch but if you really think about it, it makes a lot of sense.
Kili - Pink Slime. Which as we all know is the most basic slime in the game, in the same way Kili is the most basic choice for thirsting. He is beautiful and greatly needed at the beginning of the game, you have him on your ranch, you need his plorts after all. But once you make what you need, and you find cooler slimes, you no longer need him. You can find what you need elsewhere, you can leave your ranch for the resources.
Bifur - Twin Slime. Perhaps one of the dwarves we know the least about due to the fact he cannot speak Westron. So most of his character is fanon. I believe that some days his mind is there, and other times it really isn't. Sure, he's fun enough if you understand him, but why would you need him on your ranch when you can just get the plorts and leave?
Bofur - Batty Slime, okay this one is mostly just what I want to do. But let's all be honest, he is underrated. Perhaps not as much as some of the other characters, but he is still neglected in favor of the more sexy nobility. Nobody seems to really care that he probably has the best stone sense of the entire Company, or that he is just as brave as the rest of them. He is mostly used for a joke or two, nobody really cares about him. So he makes up for it in how he draws attention to himself, the same way Batty slimes are somewhat of a novelty with their wings and bright colors. Sure he's useful but at some point you stop caring.
Bombur - Cotton Slimes are one of the most common types of slimes in Slime Rancher 2. You see them and they're cute enough, their plorts make you good money at the beginning but at some point they are no longer the novelty they once were. They can be useful but why have them take up a full plot when there are other slimes to be had?
Dori - Yolky Slimes are hard to come across. But when you do find them, why not keep them with your Hen Hens? They are self sufficient and you need not worry about them, all they need are some Hen Hens to take care of and they are content.
Nori - Ringtail Slimes only come out at night, in the day they are frozen into statues, ignoring the world. They hate being confined to a cage so they are hard to find. You don't need to worry about them often and yet you do. Your feeder works, but sometimes it's empty because you don't think about it.
Ori - Honey Slimes are cute, they are good to have on your ranch, all they need is some fruit to keep them content. They capture your attention and all you want to do is take care of them, so much so that you neglect your other slimes that also need attention.
Gloin - Fire Slimes are annoying to find, they burn you and only appear in fire storms. When they do they are mesmerizing and gorgeous. Their plorts are valuable but that's about all they do for you. Despite the fact that they do not need to only provide value to be loved.
Oin - Water Slimes only need their water to be content. Their water can protect you from tarrs and their overall presence is so calming, especially within the hot springs. Eventually, they stop being so cool and just become the norm.
Balin - Tabby Slime, they are mild creatures, they don't claw and bite like Hunter Slimes, they are more interesting than the other dry reef slimes, but the Hen Hens it takes to feed them are difficult to obtain especially since you have other duties. So you let them go, they may be cute but their plorts are common and not useful to make gadgets.
Dwalin - Rock Slimes are very useful, they're easy to keep, all you need is some vegetables. They are steadfast and easy to find, although the can be annoying with the way they barrell at you and do not seem to be interested in being kept. They're cute all the same.
Now for the people that weren't quite in the Hobbit and those other than Hobbits and Dwarves.
Dis - Crystal Slimes are dazzling but you wouldn't know that they exist without putting work into finding them. And when you do find them, they fill their enclosure with sharp crystals and they roll around in tight balls of stabbing crystals. They are beloved all the same, but sometimes they are neglected because you are afraid of getting cut.
Frerin - I've always thought that Quantum Slimes weren't ever really there, with the way they constantly phased through walls. The Ancient Ruins have always felt something more akin to a tomb than anything else, all that remained of a civilization that could never be revived to its former glory. Aka he's a ghost because you know he's dead.
Tauriel - Hunter Slimes do not spawn easily, you must travel to the furthest reaches of the forest to find them. When you do, their plorts are valuable and they are cute as long as you keep them fed. But they are tricky, they disappear and reappear at a moment's notice. They are loved but who would go the extra mile it takes to get them and take care of them?
Gandalf - Shadow Slimes are elusive creatures, you need their resources to advance in the game but they are annoying to work with as they are not farmable. They appear and disappear whenever they wish, and unless you have something to offer them, they are not likely to stick around.
