Sometimes people are like "this is how i will fix veilguard" and then say something that makes the game worse but the ones i think the most that i read were forcing the player to play an elf only and also having more solas content cause indeed the problem of veilguard was not enough solas

i love hawke and varric a normal amount
the thing about broodmothers is that i dont hate the concept/idea, in fact thinking about what they mean to female warden/characters makes up for some really interesting stuff. my issue is knowing that the writers(namely, gaider) were Not thinking about the implications of what a broomother means to a female warden. which then 100% feels more like shock value tit monster then anything else which sucks because the lead up to the encounter, with hespith's poem is like. so fucking good.
also i will say. them writing out broodmothers entirely and only having a passive mention of them in a very specific war table mission is not the same as solving the issue
"mages have made their suffering known but templars never have" is supposed to sound deep but it really is so stupid when you think about it for more than 5 seconds.
obviously it's stupid because it's not true and the "but the oppressors suffer just as much!!!" narrative sucks, but also i get so stuck on the phrasing of "mages have made their suffering known" ...have they? it's worded as though they've been campaigning for their rights instead of getting killed (by us!) in the hinterlands after rebelling against openly abusive circles that everyone knew about and was fine with for centuries. their suffering "being known" helped the chantry in the same way having a group of people to vilify and exploit will help any corrupt institution, so treating it like it's an area where they have some kind of advantage over the templars feels like a pretty fundamental misunderstanding of how oppression works.
Also Templars have absolutely been talking about how much they are suffering in every single game so far. And use it to make the mages' suffering worse every time.

just been thinking a lot recently about how tranquil mages must do the vast majority of the domestic labor in the circle if not all and going š¶
last week you and your friend were discussing whether it would be possible to keep a pet rat hidden from the templars. you saw her today in the library dusting the shelves. if you asked her if she remembered that conversation she would say yes, and then she'd go right back to work. if you asked her for help mending the tear in your sleeve she'd do it, but she wouldn't tease you about your sloppy needlework like she used to. and if the knight-commander decided it was best to transfer her somewhere else, nobody at that circle would even think to ask questions like that, would they. they'd just leave her to clean because to them that's all she is. the other day you overheard one of the templars talking about another apprentice who'd been causing trouble, saying he couldn't wait until the day the kid would finally be made tranquil so he could have someone on hand to clean his boots. the current knight-commander was originally from a circle in orlais. when he came to your circle, he brought his tranquil personal secretary with him.
After re-playing Jaw of Hakkon, I really wish there was a scene near the end where you talk to your romance or Cassandra and your three advisors about Ameridan and how everything this guy wasāhis race, his religion, his magic, even the woman he lovedāwas stripped from him. And the Chantry made him into their Inquisitor, their hero. If you're an elf/qunari/dwarf inquisitor, you should've had a scene about this because one day that will be you. The moment you and your romance and your companions are long gone, everything about your Inquisitor will be rewritten, and your non-human Inquisitor should've had a scene voicing those fears because what's the point of being this big important person in a position of power if in the end you'll end-up just like Ameridan?
