Nikolina nation, I just want to know how you feel after the end of season two?
We feel great, never better, will tell you more after everything settles. *leans into the mic* thank you
nikolai calling alina "sunshine" 🥺🫶
Everything for them💛🌼
alina having a corruption arc makes sense. throughout the season, alina was always willing to do the right thing for the benefit of others. but she was warned by aleksander that she would end up having to sacrifice for “that which is most precious” to her. aleksander knows being a grisha forces hard choices in the same way that love forces hard choices. alina was willing to be the hero up until she had to face losing the one person who is most precious to her. she was willing to use the same dark power for the person she loves that aleksander was willing to use for his people. she was willing to do something corrupt for the sake of love. she and aleksander are, in fact, not so different after all. his darkness is now her light’s legacy.
I’m really not sure if this is an unpopular opinion or not yet but I think as far as changes from the book go I kind of like Mal and Alina splitting up at the end. The idea of questioning if you’re together by destiny or choice is compelling.
Yes, yes, YESSSSSS!!!! She should've always been a queen. And Mal and Inej saving children oversees. Incredible
NIKOLAI LANTSOV & ALINA STARKOV From book to screen | Shadow and Bone - Season 2 (2023)
nikolina appreciation week 2023 ♛ day one: fave quotes + day two: fave scenes [in/sp]
This is a prefect outcome, how it should've always been. They qre my everything
shadow and bone proves that as long as you treat the source material and the characters with respect, you don't have to make everything "book accurate"
Honestly, my opinion, they could've done with crows everything they wanted, this is pre-ice coulz. And they did well
THE PLOTLINE WITH MAL BEING THE PRIVATEER AND ALINA BEING THE QUEEN IN ENDING WE ALL NEEDED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MY HEART IS OUT!!!!! My darling Alina rebuilfing her country, exploring her powers wizh her best friend, Nikolai. And when people say Capetan Surmhond and Inej Gafa IT WILL BE MAL AND INEJ JAKENFIDJEBISIWBFIDJEJFIDJDIDJCUIFJFF
Every9ne needed this
Bonus: women saving women, women getting revenge on the ones who wronged them. Beautiful.
“Danielle was in my apartment and told me about a party she was planning where everyone in the cast has to dress up like someone else in the cast. Naturally, she gave me Amita and for the next few days I scrambled to find a way to make that work. A very serious conversation with Freddy comes to mind where he generously offered style advice and thanked God he had gotten Kit. A couple days later, I showed up to Danielle’s apartment only to realize everyone had actually dressed up as me. It was obviously surprising and ridiculous and hilarious, but also it came at a time where I desperately needed something like this. Danielle set up a whole party themed around me because she’s an angel, and all the cast was there and giving love. It’s difficult to put into words what that meant to me at the time, but it was everything.”
#interesting narrative choices were made
#thinking about jessie mei li in the darkling’s kefta
“May I present my esteemed travelling companion, former cartographer and sometimes Saint: Alina Starkov.”
The true Nikolina content right here. Beautiful.💛
#putting the ‘insane’ in ‘insanely hot’
Moment when Freddy Certer got into history. (And my baby Amita slayed, of course, but this scene was all Freddy's)
!!!SPOILERS S&B S2, FIRST 4 EPISODES!!!
I just watched first 4 episodes of Shadow and Bone s2 and... wow. Just wow. First two episodes were nice introduction, slowly. BUT BOI EP 3 AND 4. THE CROWS. THE GRISHA.
I don't fucking know how freddy managed to look THE SAME as the fanart. The same crazy eyes, greedy grin, BLOOD ON HIS FACE! The graveyard scene with Pekka being watched by his son. Chills. I FELT THINGS watching Freddy slaying the Kaz monologue.
And on the other note, NIKOLINA IS SERVING! My baby Alina punching Nikolai second she realised he is prince. The whole engagement party prep scene was so sweet. For now they are giving me solid amount of Nikolina, hoping for more.
Furthermore, the my girl Nina being the absolute QUEEN. The instant Wesper content we got was... Wow. And I LOVED that Jes and Wylan hooked up before. Kanej conection was a wilde ride for now, I mean the amount of 'I need you to be save' and 'go away' was.. spot on complicated.
I will probably watch rest 4 episodes tomorow or friday, since It's 3am now, I have school. But, the mix of SaB and SoC like this is masterminded.
wilhelm at the therapist for the first time : barely forms a sentence
wilhelm at his third visit : heres your fucking beverage. now get a load of this shit
things heartstopper does brilliantly because i refuse to let some of you monsters ruin it for everyone
1. models healthy consent practices!! oh my goodness!! asking to kiss, double checking that consent is enthusiastic, being honest about moments that lacked consent (see: b*n h*pe and imogen asking out nick). later in the books we get even more amazing examples of consent being an ongoing conversation!!
2. the teenagers act their age!! they’re awkward, they’re confused, they’re unsure of themselves, they are PLAYED BY YOUNG ACTORS!!! it’s realistic and beautiful and doesn’t set unreasonable expectations for viewers like almost every other show about high schoolers
3. SUPPORTIVE PARENTS!!! all of the parents we have met so far have been loving, supportive, compassionate, and patient. it’s so nice to have multiple queer and trans characters who are embraced by their parents and their friend’s parents from the beginning. and tao’s mom is an icon.
4. safe people and places!! the characters have trusted adults like mr. ajayi and mrs. singh and safe places like the art room that they can go to when things are rough. it models healthy support network building and healthy coping skills!!!
5. all the ways you can come out and be out!! it tells a beautiful “coming out isn’t always easy and it’s never the end of the journey” story without making coming out seem like a disaster waiting to happen. yes, charlie was outed - and people still jumped to his aid even before nick came around. no one pressures nick to come out (a major story arc some of y’all clearly didnt pay attention to) and they tell him it’s fine if he doesn’t know what to label his sexuality if he even wants to label it at all.
6. LETTING. BOYS. CRY. oh my god it’s so refreshing to see a show where boys get to cry instead of punching walls. and not once does someone tell them crying makes them less masculine. no one tells anyone to stop crying. they’re allowed to be emotional and it’s wonderful.
7. affection. i adore the way this show portrays all the small ways you can say “i love you”: a homemade picture frame, buying your apple juice every day, waiting until you’re ready, taking you to the beach, bringing over cookies for movie night, bringing their dog to the date to cheer you up, running over in the rain, punching someone in the face for you.
feel free to add more!!! i just want to highlight the best parts of this show + graphic novel series because it really is a masterpiece. i hope kit (and the rest of the cast and crew) knows that he’s doing a good job - a great job - and that no one else’s shitty behavior can change that.
The biggest for me is that they didn't complicate things. They took misscomunication trope and trew it in a trash. It shows that everything can be resolved with a conversation. They had, I think, every. single. tropey.moment that you've seen in a million shows that chaaracters just overreact and they use it as a drama and a plot to keep the story going.
Heartstopper doesn't have that. Nick kissing charlie and then running away? He explained that he is confused, but really likes Charlie. Nick going out on a date with the girl? He talks to Charlie telling the truth and Charlie understands. Telling Imogen he doesn't like her like that? She accepts it and continues to be a supportive friend. And so on.
They don't need the unnessesery drama, because it is not point of the show. The main point is kids being kids. That's it. And I LOVE THEM FOR THAT!!!!!!!!!
imogen is literally a 16 year old girl with a crush who immediately backed off and sympathized with nick when he turned her down and took the heat off of the situation when nicks friends questioned him and was happy to see him with charlie in the last episode and yet some of y'all are acting like she is a straight up VILLAIN. SHE IS A CHILD. imogen did nothing wrong i stand by this. 🤞🏻🤞🏻
This is what I was talking about.
This is exactly why the whole "Queer characters can only be played by queer actors" argument, or the queerbaiting celebrities argument is not only unhelpful, it is actively harmful. You are not entitled to other peoples identity. You are forcing people to come out in order to protect their careers, when they may not have wanted to share that with the world. Real people can not queerbait. Real people can not be bad representations of themselves. Do not conflate how you treat fictional characters with how you are allowed to treat real people. We can not keep having the same conversation. Forcing people to come out or else face social consequences is Bad. Always. Everytime.
In this case, Kit is literally a teenager who has been facing overwhelming amounts of online abuse for not being open about his personal identity.
Im seeing it with other queer media too. With nicholas galitzin and taylor zakhar perez in the red white & royal blue movie, people demanding that they should have been recast with "actual queer actors" despite the fact that we do not know if they are or are not queer. We can never know until they tell us that they are, which they have not.
Im also seeing it with young royals. With the new season coming out later today, the speculation on omar and edvins sexuality and relationship is incredibly harmful and toxic. They are real people, please treat them like people instead of fictional characters you can write rambling, speculating paragraphs about.
I'll say it one more time.
You are not entitled to other people's identities.
(Edit: some people are confused about the whole real people cant queerbait thing, so I have an explanation here x)
