THERES ONLY ONE NOW?????
I recently started working in hospitality, and I’ll tell you guys right now, the trope of “there was only one bed” is not as rare as you’d think in real life. A few times a week, at least, I have guys come in who are working together on projects in town or passing through who have to literally book the last room I have available for the night and lo and behold — there is only one bed, and guess what, they give each other a side-eyed look and begrudgingly take it. So write it up, it happens all the time!!!
Never let your There Was Only One Bed dreams die. I was secretly in love with my best friend for over a year when she graduated and moved to Oklahoma (like 1000 miles away) for grad school. Between that travel restrictions, we were so scared we’d never see eachother again.
At the end of summer, when Covid numbers were at a lower point, I took the risk to visit her in her new apartment and I quickly realized that, unlike when I’d spent the night at her house before, the couch wasn’t made up like a bed. She explained that since her new couch was so fancy and pink, I couldn’t possibly sleep on it, and so I needed to sleep in the bed with her. You know, out of necessity. I woke up with her snuggled around me in the middle of the night.
We’re dating now, and I genuinely think I’m going to marry her. Just the other day, though, I mentioned that if she hadn’t been weird about her fancy couch, I probably never would have like confessed my feelings. AND THEN she stood up, took the cushions off the fancy couch, UNFOLDED IT INTO A HIDE-A-BED, and said “I KNOW.”
THIS GIRL. ORCHESTRATED. BED SCARCITY. JUST SO SHE COULD MAKE THE “ONLY ONE BED” EXCUSE. Y’all when I said I just about lost my goddamn mind, I just about lost my goddamn mind. I love this sneaky bitch so much and the moral of this story is BE THE ONE BED YOU WANT TO SEE IN THE WORLD.
Fanfic imitates life, and life imitates fanfic. It’s full circle really.

I refuse to stop using em dashes, Oxford commas, and the word “delve” just because AI uses them more often. I was using them long before AI, and will keep using them long after. You can pry them out of my cold, dead hands.
really like this reply i came across. skill issue. stop consuming media and start engaging with it. really good sentence.

They locked. The fucking. Door.
One of the only viable escape routes in any kind of emergency.
Just... locked.
To prevent theft, they said to justify it. Because profit was more important than safety.
I learned about the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire in college and it has continued to hold an iron grip on my soul for years. It may seem a weird and morbid thing to obsess over, but it's so interesting (and awful) just how fucking preventable it was. So many underpaid, poorly-treated immigrant workers (mostly women) died horrific deaths (burning alive and jumping out of windows) because those in power were greedy and paranoid and they just didn't care. The fire itself was an accident iirc but it was the inevitable result of unsafe, exploitative working conditions.
There had been protests prior to the fire, people trying to raise the alarm and push for change, but not much came of it. No one listened. Not really.
Not until after the fire, of course. When the public was forced to see and read about the carnage, the loss of human life, and the terror that the victims must have felt. It was a terrible spectacle. The company at fault looked like the villains they were. There was, finally, public outrage. And only then did things change.
It was too late for those who died, and it wasn't enough, but it was a start.
The shirtwaist factory fire wasn't even the last time Triangle was caught pulling that shit, either. It's just the example people remember.
Triangle rebuilt their factory somewhere else and were caught locking the doors again.
So, even when a tragedy is a catalyst for positive change, we still have to be vigilant and hold people in power accountable.
I think they locked the doors just to prevent the workers from leaving during the work day. But the workers were also crammed together in that factory with plenty of flammable material. More things of note, the doors to the outside were pull only—not push—so it would make it harder to evacuate in the case of an emergency, there were no fire escapes, and there was something else that I can’t remember that made it difficult for those on the upper floors to reach ground level. The Triangle Shirt Waist Factory bypassed many safety procedures—what little that they had back then—all so they could profit off their workers’ labor.

I was doing some muscle studies and decided to turn one into Yasha Nydoorin. I got lost in the sauce a little with this one. I don't feel like I did Yasha justice, but I also want to feel okay with posting things I'm not 100% happy with. Sorry Ashley Johnson, I'll do better job on Yasha another day, because she deserves it.
