Guess who is updating to Control-IQ!! 🙋🏻‍♀️
Hey darlings,
I’m using the ungodly amount of free time that I have here at home to finally start up my YouTube channel. Hit up my inbox or messages with anything that you'd want me to talk about.
Anything diabetes related, covid, etc.
Trying to use this time to start something new :)
Holy shit, Bernie just popped off on the Senate floor
Transcript: And now I find that some of my Republican colleagues are very distressed. They’re very upset that somebody who is making ten, twelve bucks an hour might end up with a paycheck—for four months!—more than they received last week. Oh my G-d! The universe is collapsing.Â
Imagine that. Somebody who’s making 12 bucks an hour, now like the rest of us, faces an unprecedented economic crisis, with the 600 bucks on top of their normal- their regular unemployment check- might be making a few bucks more for four months. Oh my WORD! Will the universe survive?Â
How absurd and wrong is that? What kind of value system is that? Meanwhile, these very same folks had no problem, a couple years ago, voting for a trillion dollars in tax breaks for billionaires and large profitable corporations! Not a problem!Â
But when it comes to low-income workers in the midst of a terrible crisis, maybe some of them earning or having more money than they previously made- [tongue clicks] oh my word we gotta strip that out. Gotta- we gotta tell those poor people that no matter what-Â
By the way when this bill, when the McConnell bill first came up, unbelievably, and I know many Republicans objected to this, they were saying that well we wanna give a, whatever it was, a thousand or twelve hundred bucks, but poor people should get less.Â
You see, because poor people are down here, they don’t deserve- they don’t eat. They don’t pay rent. They don’t go to the doctor; they’re somehow inferior, because they’re poor we’re gonna give them less.Â
Well that was addressed. Now everybody is gonna get the 1200 dollars. But some of our Republican friends still have not given up of the need to punish the poor and working people.Â
You haven’t raised the minimum wage in ten years! Minimum wage should be at least fifteen bucks an hour, you haven’t done that!Â
You’ve cut program, after program, after program, and now horror of horrors, for four months, workers might be earning a few bucks more than they otherwise would. Well needless to say, this— (audio cuts off as video ends).
THIS is why I want Bernie to win so BADLY. I don’t think his policies are particularly radical. I don’t think they’re quite enough truth be told. But they’re better than anyone else’s. Not only that but he has more passion for making sure people are better off tomorrow than they are today than anyone else who has run for this office. He’s passionate and compassionate and honest. He is the opposite of Trump. Please, if it is safe for you to vote, vote. Bernie may have put his campaign on the back burner during this crisis, but I won’t forget him.
So i know everyone keeps doing shoutouts to drs and nurses for working in such shitty times rn but like?? Can i get a shoutout to every other hospital worker thats not a dr or nurse
So heres a shoutout to:
Respiratory therapists for giving my pts their breathing treatments and intubating so many others
PT for getting my patients out of bed for the first time in a week
Radiology and rad techs for doing countless bedside chest xrays and CTs
Lab techs for coming to get blood work for entire floors at a time
Pharmacy for getting the right antibiotic doses sent to the floor on time
Cardiac and tele monitors for alerting me when a patient goes into an arrhythmia
Patient transporters for doing endless laps of the hospital while pushing 400+ lbs of patients and equipment
Environmental services for keeping everything as clean as possible when its needed most
And honestly the biggest thank you to the PCAs/CNAs bc without yall i would literally not be able to function at work like i cannot even begin to describe how big of an impact you make on the floors
I just came off a 13 hour understaffed night shift and am feeling sentimental so like,, thanks yall you rock
Hey i just found your blog and i am so happy you post stuff about how fucking taxing diabetes is, whenever i look around for other diabetics they have such a positive 'it doesn't effect anything i do' attitude, it makes me feel like i am doing it all wrong. Truth is i hate diabetes so much that i don't want to have kids because i don't want them to go through it, my boyfriend of 7 years absolutely loves and wants children and i feel like I'm breaking his heart.
Hi lovely! I’m glad that I can give you a different perspective on diabetes than others that you’re seeing! It’s not always a super easy disease to manage and there are absolutely days where it’s more taxing than others.
As for the thought of having kids and being scared of them being diagnosed, I’m 1000% there with you. I’ve cried to my mom about being scared of my future kids being diagnosed and having to go through the same things that we do. I would also definitely voice that fear to your boyfriend.Â
One thing that my mom tells me though is that when she was my age (I’m now 20 years old), the treatments and ways to manage diabetes weren’t nearly as advanced as they were when I was diagnosed back in 2004, and they’re even better now. I like to think that by the time that you and I have children (and god forbid they’re diagnosed), that things will be even better than they are now. Another thought that I have is that if they end up being diagnosed, at least they’ll have a parent who has diabetes too so that they know they’re not alone and they have someone who knows what they’re doing. I hope I helped to ease your mine at least a little bit and if you ever need (and this goes for everyone), by inbox and messages are always open <3
Hey lovely! Despite not being a diagnosed diabetic, I have a tendency to get hypos and pass out in weird places. I’m always hungry (like it’s ridiculous. I could eat for 1000), always thirsty, waking up during the night starving & get cold sweats, stomach aches etc. I keep putting off going to the doctor because I’m terrified. Do you have any advice for how anyone should handle the diagnosis? Hope you’re having a lovely day xx
Hi dear! I’m so sorry for such a late reply. In that case I would recommend to take a deep breath and head to the doctor. They know the best way to help you out. Getting diagnosed with a chronic illness is scary, but it’s better the sooner you catch it. And if you don’t have it? Then yay! Wishing you all the best <3Â
To the People Who Make Diabetes Jokes:
I hope you realize that it’s not sugar and “diabeetus.”
I hope you realize it’s waking up at 3AM, shaking and dizzy and using all of your energy to find your blood sugar kit, and then more to find something to treat the low.
I hope you realize that it’s little black bumps on your fingertips from countless blood sugar checks.
I hope you realize that it’s scarring on your stomach, arms, and legs from injections and insulin pump sites.
I hope you realize it’s not being able to just eat anything when your friends do without worrying about a major blood sugar spike.
I hope you realize it’s getting unwanted attention in school when you do a blood sugar check or one of your devices beeps.
I hope you realize that it’s trying to stay in the best shape possible, and still hearing all of the fat and eating jokes.
I hope you realize that we’ve been hearing these jokes all our lives, and we’re going to be hearing them until the end.
I hope you realize that these jokes aren’t cool or funny.
I hope you realize that using our struggle as the punchline to your jokes makes you look like an ass.
Bringing this back bc I’m angry
fuck anyone who does shit like this.
fuck the people who make fun of your insulin pumps and meters
fuck the food service workers who give you regular soda bcuz they could care less and dieting is a fad
fuck the teachers who won’t let you leave class to find food when you’re low or water when you’re high
fuck your coaches who accuse you of faking lows to get out of practice/games/meets/matches
fuck your peers who accuse you of begging for attention with your “beeping thing”
fuck relatives who try to tell you how to operate your own body like you haven’t been dealing with it for years
fuck you, no I wasn’t overweight
fuck you, I didn’t eat “too much sugar”
you can’t catch this, so catch my FUCKING HANDS when you start talking shit

I can’t wait to tear down big pharma in a diabetic rage, BUT my BG is high rn so I’m gonna nap first. However, when I wake up, it’s over for big pharma I’m telling you...
Thoughts on Technology and Insurance:
I just heard something about the new cgm/pump systems on the market from my sister. She’s going to school with another diabetic, and she was noticing that he never partook in any party food. At first, I just assumed he was really into getting that tight control. My sister spoke with him and found out it was something more sinister.
Apparently, he’s using the newest Medtronic system, the one where it’s claiming to keep its diabetics in range 70% of the time. His insurance company is in contact with him every day making sure he’s in range.
To me, this sounds like Big Brother. His insurance is watching him that closely for compliance. If it were as easy as only watching food, we’d all be at 70% in-range. But managing diabetes isn’t  just about watching what we eat. There’s other factors, too, like hormones and stress. As a health care professional, I cannot predict how my day-to-day activities will be. I finally got my own pump figured out to the active days of Chemistry, but the moment I got sick and stayed home? My numbers were through the roof. My basal wasn’t high enough, illness always makes me resistant, and I just plain wasn’t as physical as I normally was.
And now it sounds like insurance companies want to watch you every day. If you fall out of compliance, they have just cause to then raise your rates or drop you from coverage.
Thoughts?Â
I was considering getting the new system myself in February, but now I’m not so sure.
@dandelionwyn-o @woefulpancreas @deadpancreas-girl @setenteras
I want to exclaim “that’s nuts! or “I’ve never heard of such a thing!”, but yeah, my insurance company wanted to “pair [me] with a heath management team” at one point. I declined (repeatedly). They even offered me a break on my premium. $40 a month to get someone wedged up my butt as if I don’t already have enough to do.
I use pens and I don’t use my Dexcom receiver. I use xDrip+ with NightScout and I keep my data to myself. Your insurance company has no right to close monitor you unless you approve that, approval that you can withdraw at any time, and they cannot drop you for becoming sicker or being out of range too much since the passage of the Affordable Care Act (thanks Obama).
I mean, they can trick you into letting them know everything, and they can threaten to cut you off, but ultimately you could sue the shit out of them and they know it.
This is pretty unnerving honestly.
Diabetes isn’t a perfect disease!! No matter how much we strive for those 5.3A1C levels, it’s not realistic for everybody! Right now I’m in one of the toughest semesters for my major, and my levels are everywhere and I’m working hard to get them under control, but sometimes they just don’t agree!
If my insurance company called even today to see if I was in range? No.
This is ridiculous and insurance companies shouldn’t be keeping that close an eye on you. If it helps you gradually work, great!! Diabetes is trial and error!!
I wish Dexcom had a setting where you could click “I just ate” and it wouldn’t alarm for at least 30 minutes
Reactions to the new line show how much these fashionable items are needed.
Aerie, after the huge success of having models with diabetes and other disabilities and diseases a few years ago, is back again! Aerie teamed up with Abilitee and is selling insulin pump bands, ostomy covers, and more!
I’m baaaaack!!
Hi guys!! Sophomore spring is in full swing and I wanna do things that y’all wanna see!! I’m definitely going to start up my YouTube channel soon and I wanna know what kinds of videos y’all wanna see!! Let me know in a reblog or response!!
Diabetes with the Public
I work at a fairly busy car dealership. Right now my area is having a wicked heatwave so I was wearing a dressier tank top at work yesterday. I wasn’t in the best mood bc it was CLEARLY a full moon based on how the customers were acting and a lady came up to be rung out.
She pointed to the Dexcom sensor on my arm and said “I’m sorry sweetheart but the monitor on your arm, is that for your diabetes?” We had a really good talk about diabetes the whole time I was ringing her out (her nephew has a Dexcom and t:slim combo like I do) and it was just super good. Before leaving she said “You’re so beautiful, I hope you have the most wonderful summer.”
Some customers make a negative impact on you, but others you just keep in your heart because they’re so good.
Officially training for my Dexcom G6!!
Oh shit take your meds y'all!!!
I just remembered mine lol.
