Occasionally forget people genuinely think capitalism is thousands of years old
One time I was talking about Robin Hood with some coworkers and one guy was like “he was bad because the people he helped learned to expect handouts” and I wanted to be like… okay can you explain how that flawed capitalist propaganda applies to feudalism
reminder that capitalism was literally invented in the 16th century
That’s an exaggeration. What was invented in the 16th century was mercantilism. Capitalism really dates for the beginning of the nineteenth century, with the rise of industry and cash crops over artisans and merchants. Vulture capitalism, with the notion that companies have no duties other than generating profit, is even younger.
Capitalism is only 200 years old and I have to say, they have not been an impressive 200 years
I think a lot of this comes from the fact that most people don’t know the formal definition of capitalism. We all know the word, we’ve all seen the jokes, but very few people bother to actually define it unless they’re talking about political theory and philosophy, so it’s easy to end up with the impression that Capitalism = Money Can Be Exchanged For Goods And Services.
Capitalism is the economic system where most of the means of production (i.e. everything people need to have to make the stuff that everyone wants) are owned by private individuals or corporations, who then hire people to provide the labor necessary to produce things, with the intent of selling the output at a profit. It’s the difference between “you’re a carpenter and you make a chair and you sell it” and “you’re Richard Q. Richington who owns a chair factory, and you pay people to sell the chairs you paid other people to make and then all the excess money goes back to you.” There have been Richard Q. Richingtons on and off throughout history, but that being the norm for every single industry is a pretty recent development.
An alarming amount of people seem to think capitalism = all trade, and I don’t think that’s a coincidence.
Okay, so.
Monster taming game that received an updated rerelease unreasonably quickly on the same console. The rerelease included a lot of new story elements, some of which were intended from the start, some of which are just about on par with the original version, a decent chunk of which are better, but a lot that are outright worse, and flatten things that made the original stand out. If you could mix and match the original with the update, the result would easily be my undisputed favorite entry in the franchise, but instead I'm just left with a sense of disappointment for the game that could have been. The music, at least, slaps harder than anything in the series that's come before or since.
Am I talking about Pokémon Gen 7, or SMTV(V)? 😭

Non-binary people can't use they/them because they're only one person. Non-binary people can't use it/its because it's dehumanizing. Non-binary people can't use neopronouns because they're too confusing. Non-binary people can't use he/him and/or she/her because that's not gender neutral. Non-binary people can't use no pronouns because that's too hard to use.
No matter what pronouns a non-binary person uses somebody will get mad at them.
For those who don't know: Ikumi Nakamura is the woman who was senior artist on Bayonetta, and designed the titular character along with Hideki Kamiya. Their greatest moment of bonding was over their insistence that Bayonetta keep her glasses on at all times. Nakamura cannot go to horny jail. She is the warden.
Happy pride month to her and her exclusively
she made a comic about the experience on twitter

An Update from back in October I'm surprised wasn't added to this post. lol
maybe the world is worth it after all
Okay awesome gay post aside does anyone know who the absolute queen cosplaying dimitrescu is????
It does annoy me that whenever someone asks why kids don’t go outside these days that people immediately jump to how “everything is built around cars these days. You realize that cars weren’t invented in the 80s right?
The reason kids don’t go outside as much is a fun three way collision between Reagan era stranger danger, Clinton era crimejerking, and the bush era explosion in the availability of cell phones. Honorable mention to post-9/11 paranoia.
Kids stay indoors and play video games because the incentive to go outside (controlled escape from supervision, a relatively open commons) are gone when mom and dad keep you on a silicon leash and track you by GPS while cops get called if you’re in the vicinity of a 7/11 for more than 30 seconds.
Everyone wants the kids to go outside until they’re kids outside, then it’s “where are your parents?” Because Americans police the time of youth so completely it’s a wonder that kids manage to have any kind of life at all.

Broken notes… deactivated account… removed image….
Finally, we have them all.
In addition: OP’s name is just… gone. No “[insert username]-deactivated[insert a bunch of numbers]” as is the standard for deactivated blogs.
Just the world “deactivated.” Look upon their post, ye mighty, and despair.
It’ll be almost impossible to find this post unless it wanders across your dash.
It wandered across mine. I shall help it travel forward.
