almost done w s1 of the pitt and can i just say hucklerobby is not real. you all made that shit up because you wanted to watch them scissor which is fair but it's sooo not real. it's so nothing. no chemistry even. i know it was probably really hard to watch a show that had so many women and women of color to boot, but i dont think you needed to hallucinate robby fucking the twink to cope i think you couldve just toughed it out
I want to say I completely understand being fatigued of a ship when the tag is flooded with art and fics, and it’s valid to express frustration at that. I feel like it’s possible to talk about not enjoying a ship or wanting to see less of it without acting like wanting/not wanting two fictional men to fuck is somehow morally indicative of someone’s investment in feminism. Or without treating it like a litmus test for whether or not they care about the women on a show.
This is something I’ve been thinking about for a while because I see this sentiment expressed a lot in fandom spaces. I can love the female characters of a show and talk about them/ship them but not be as invested in explicit fics and art of them because I am not attracted to women and do not have any interest in fantasizing about them fucking in detail. Simultaneously I can be a gay man with a desire to fantasize about two fictional men in a particular workplace dynamic fucking, and be excited to use the show’s characters to express that without it being a “coping strategy” for the existence of female characters.
To me, it comes off a bit homophobic to imply that ppl are only interested in shipping mlm ships because they hate women and need an excuse to ignore them. There’s a absolutely a space to be made for talking about how women in shows are genuinely ignored by fandom and how they are often treated by the showrunners and script writers as one dimensional or secondary, without it coming off like “you gays are only attracted to men bc of how much you hate women.”
you don't think it's a pretty impressive feat to have the entire fandom reflect a ship between two white guys that they made up when the show is dominated by women's perspectives and relationships?
you think it doesn't say anything that in a show that has very strong female characters and stories the actual characters and relationships from the show are sidelined for white male perspectives?
you think the only thing that influences someone's engagement in fandom is their sexual attraction to the characters, and that the social, racial, and gendered contexts of those characters doesn't?
and would you mind letting me know where in my post I said something homophobic?
The first bit of your post was totally fine, and a valid personal opinion to be had. I personally have blocked certain tags/the people posting in them because of the volume of content before. I’m a strong believer that in fandom, especially on tumblr which has a fair amount of tools for it, you have to block what you don’t want to see and seek out or create what you do want to see. I also said there was a space for discussion of how fandoms sideline female characters and I really believe that. Characters of color as well! I completely agree. Here is where you said something homophobic:
“i know it was probably really hard to watch a show that had so many women and women of color to boot, but i dont think you needed to hallucinate robby fucking the twink to cope i think you couldve just toughed it out”
to agree with @carapaced, I tried to express similar feelings in the comments. just because I enjoy a ship, even if its one you dont see proof of, does NOT mean I dislike the rest of the cast. because the ship is mlm does not make me misogynistic. I LOVE female/poc characters, and i LOVE wlw ships and sapphic people. but as a trans masc person, I can not read a story that sexualizes a body that reminds me of my own without getting physically uncomfortable. does that make me sexist?
when i expressed that liking a mlm ship is NOT mutually exclusive with liking female characters they told me I seemed defensive and asked how their post had made me feel attacked. perhaps pitting minorities against each other makes me uncomfortable.
one thing does not always mean another. correlation is not always causation. gay people are not inherently sexist. liking a silly little (legal, healthy) ship does not make someone evil.
yes? hello? if you can't read a story about women because of dysphoria that does make you sexist. i am saying this to you, as a transgender man: you have to divorce your dysphoria from women and women's bodies because other people's genders and bodies are not about you. engaging with fandom isn't praxis no matter how you do it but the way you engage with media reflects your biases, both conscious and unconscious, just as much as anything else you do. that's just how it is idk what to tell you man
take your own goddamn advice for fucks sake. I am not one to start shit on the internet, honestly I usually actively avoid it. but you can not fucking tell be what is and isn't allowed to give me gender dysforia. you dont fucking know me. I never said I cant read stories about women. I am currently writing a story with over 10 individual fleshed out women characters (6 of which are people of color, mind you) and maybe 3 men. the men are not the center of the story so I haven't even written any of them yet. what I said was that the sexualization of afab bodies makes me uncomfortable because it makes me think too much of my own body. thats why I dont read wlw smut fics. or straight smut for that matter. that does not mean I hate women or female lead stories or sapphic people. you are not better than me because you dont experience dysforia the same.
and if all your likes and dislikes reflect all these unconscious biases that you get to assume people have from a single interaction, does that leave me free to assume you're fucking homophobic because you were hating on one single mlm ship? no, of fucking course not. so do not do the fucking same to me.

yall realize you can criticize religion without like. making fun of people for having things that are sacred and holy to them right.
not to be that guy but theres a huge difference between "this religion and it's practitioners has aspects that warrant criticism" and "lmao look at them believing in things" . its one thing to call out the toxicity and spread of dangerous information in, as an example, pagan communities. it is an entirely separate thing to make fun of pagans for what they find sacred and important to their lives, even if it doesnt make sense to you.

best thing tumblr ever did for me is the term "rotating it in my mind". it's really true that sometimes you think about something real hard but you can't tell what the thoughts are exactly. it's revolutionary stuff, i might even say
sometimes the subject of your thoughts is just in this thing
