i didn’t even know these guys could flower!

i sewed up these reusable cotton rounds and they’re not perfect but they do their job! made some for my girlfriend as well :)
eco-friendly/anti-consumerist gift ideas
if you're anything like me, you're trying to avoid buying new and unnecessary things. and if you're like me, you also love giving gifts. here are some ideas i've put together for more sustainable gifts.
something they actually need. this might not seem like a fun gift but it's worth asking if there's anything in particular they've been needing to buy, and maybe you can buy an eco-friendly version of the product!
plants! bonus points if you propagate them yourself and reuse/thrift a container or pot
an experience. take them to the movies, the spa, a restaurant, or whatever you think they'd like
acts of service. if you're handy at all, offer to fix something for them. this can be a light bulb, a pair of jeans, or anything!
a homemade gift. maybe you like to make candles, or you paint, or do woodwork, or none of the above! get creative and make something they'd like. maybe you can use materials from a charity shop?
alternatively, something from an artist or local business. you can pay an artist to draw you together or support small/local businesses!
regift! as long as you're not just trying to get rid of unwanted gifts, it's a great idea to regift something if you think they'd love it more than you!
consumables. how about you make them their favourite treat or get a gift certificate for some local fruit and veg?
a subscription. the possibilities are endless. this can be a course, a streaming service, food subscription, or anything at all!
if you have more ideas, please comment or reblog!
Some handmade things to inspire you DIY future projects:
- Wool knitted sweater.
- Chunky crochet afghan.
- Get some wood, nails, and string. Build a noodle cutter.
- Handmade quilt, soap, candles, etc.
- A piece of art inspired by their interests.
- Antiques or found objects with a story. Tell someone about that time you got lost on a trail and found a cool fossil etc.
- A picnic basket filled with an upcycled thermos, old blanket etc.
- If you have things in your sewing kit you don't need, use them to furnish a new kit for someone else.
- Teach someone how to make something from scratch: watercolors, oil paint, fresh noodles, baked bread. ceramics, etc.
- Pass down an old family recipe and make it together.
- Take someone foraging. Fill a basket with warm treats to take with you.
- A freshly made all natural wreath. Or make them together and have mead or spiced tea on the stove to drink while you do it.
- A mason jar full of cookie mix or cocoa with special ingredients (hot peppers, peppermint etc.)
- Freshly made cheese. Make a cheese ball or soft cheese with it and drizzle baked grapes and spices over the top.
- A stack of used books.
- A collection of old records to listen to together.
- A small hoard of knitted socks.
i love these!
went to wisley gardens yesterday and i was so inspired by it! they had a whole area on sustainability and how to make your garden more environmentally friendly.

reusing some glass jars to propagate some plants! i can’t wait for them to grow so i can pot them and give them as sustainable gifts!
i convinced my mother to stop using the big 1.5L plastic water bottles at home to keep track of her water intake and she bought a glass Voss bottle to use instead. the little things can make a difference.
PLANT INSIDERS
Plants love starch, so if u have cooked pasta or boiled potatoes save the water, let it cool and give it to ur plants. DO NOT GIVE THEM BOILING WATER THEY WILL DIE, I REPEAT THEY WILL DIE. I add a bowl under the pot with the holes (I forgot the name of it but you know what i mean). Then I put it in the refrigerator to cool and water my plants with it once its cold.
Plants loves coffee grounds. My friend gave her aloe plant coffee grounds and it grew like crazy.
Eggshells are a natural fertilizer. Wash out the slimy stuff from the eggshell and then ground it up into a fine powder, you’ll know its ready when it look like fresh crack you can snort (please dont snort the eggshells). You can use a food processor if that helps. Sprinkle the powder on the soil.
Banana peels are a natural fertilizer too. Sun dry the banana peel, you can cut it up into smaller pieces for it to dry quicker. Its ready when its looks like bethany’s heat damaged hair: crunchy. When the peels are crunchy, crush it up into a powder. Sprinkle the powder on your soil.
Talk to your plants. It actually helps them grow. Talk to them bout random shit, my plants are literally my therapist.
changes coming
hi! so i've decided i'm going to switch up this blog a bit. i'm still going to post plant stuff, but i'm also going to post about my journey to becoming more eco-friendly and my attempt at sustainable living. as a result, i'll be changing my blog name from succulent-mother to something else soon, so stay tuned, and if you're interested in learning tips and tricks to becoming more eco-friendly, feel free to follow along!
Went to the national botanical garden and spent the whole day there
help with gc2b binder giveaway
Hi! So i'm trying to host a binder giveaway on tiktok (@ frogbunnyboi if you wanna check it out or enter) but i can only afford to give one good quality binder so far. This is fine, but i'm getting quite a few submissions and i'd love to be able to buy more people binders too.
I need some help raising money to buy more binders, so if anyone out there would like to help, please donate to my paypal ([email protected]), buy something from my etsy shop (FrogBunnyArt), or boost! Thank you so much!
Goal: £10/100 by May 1st 2021
please please help if you can!
repotted some avocado plants yesterday (i have about a dozen of them)
how did you get your ikea aloe plants to sprout more babies! ive had mine for maybe almost a year and its just been the same
i bought them like that!! since i bought them a year or two ago they haven’t really grown more than one or two new offsets but when i first bought the aloe it was just a dozen aloe veras in one :) admittedly though, i was a little too eager to have loads of little aloe babies and in hindsight they would’ve grown better together for a little longer, but alas they’re still alive even if they’re a little weak.
Gave my bust a hair-do 🌿
got two cacti and two carnivorous plants for christmas!!
