Rimuru himself is one of the biggest strengths of the series, like it would be so easy for it to be just another male power fantasy, but the subtle bits of his character saves it from being so. While he uses male pronouns, heās also fairly explicitly an a-gendered being, by his own choice. One of the things that truly one me over to this anime was the moment when he first gained the ability to take human form after consuming Shizue. He flips through different expressions of said form including one that looks exactly like a color swapped Shizue and one that is explicitly masculine but settles on the short, androgynous form we all know. Thatās what he looks like by choice when he isnāt in his true slime form, which he tellingly never abandons. He canonically had the option of gender and physical sex and just went ānope, no thank you!ā Truly iconic.

For a species with such a slow life history (it takes green sea turtles decades to reach sexual maturity) and a nearly global population, this is a Really Big Deal. This is the kind of long term conservation victory that many of the amazing humans who started working on green sea turtle conservation back in the 80s didn't live to see.

So some fanartist drew a āsexyā (read: booby) version of a (cartoon) character who is traditionally very non-sexualised. Fans of the character got mad about it because itās kind of groundbreaking how that character is written and portrayed and this art totally ignores the entire point of the character. They demanded the art be deleted. In response to that other people said, well what the fanartist did may be distateful but they have every right to draw what theyāre into. The two sides fight for days and each starts a harassment campaign and even report their āopponentsāā accounts.
So far so typical. But things eventually come to a head and they decide that this will be settled by votes - not through a poll. Through donations to a childrenās education charity via each sideās portal. Whoever can get the highest amount of donation wins.
And that is how this charity received over 1 million in donations in three days lol. Oh btw the āfreedom of expressionā side won by a landslide (960k to 40k)

i really im absolutely astounded at the phenomenal job that MIB did not to be racist against aliens, despite being a movie about secret agents chasing evil aliens. that scene where jay helps an alien mother to give birth is probably one of the most humanizing moments for an Other ive seen in a movie ever.
like it grabs the body snatcher trope from the cold war "aliens are all around you, hidden in diguzise, they could be any one of us!" and then it says "and theyre just people, theyre literally just people trying to live their lives and thats fine"
you literally have a whooe scene where a cop stands out because he says "i dont care how menacibg or threatning someone looks im not going to shoot them if there is a reasonable explination for what theyre doing, one is sneezing and one is just doing excercise", and that is the guy that gets aproved to join MIB.
The movie has a real love for NYC and immigrant culture as a part of that. The opening scene where K welcomes the undocumented immigrants to the United States. One alien greets another and says he's ordered him pierogi. A lot of them are refugees from their home worlds who just want to survive.

Ok I know this is super old now but I work at a post office and I was curious about the price so I did some digging and I still donāt have a definite answer because THE REASON it says āno shipping services availableā is because all shipping services were actually suspended to Guam at the time. As in no packages, parcels, letters, or mail or any kind could be sent to Guam. So not only is it mind boggling that it got sent so far in the wrong direction of its intended destination, but because nothing should have been able to get in to Guam period.
You QUITE LITERALLY could not have sent these cookies to Guam if you tried.
