I understand it intellectually, but it still bewilders me on a spiritual level that people create separate tumblrs for obsessing over each specific interest, because I’m just here unendingly like BEHOLD, THE COLLAGE OF ME.

Things No One Tells You About Having A Chronic Illness
If you’re in public with a walking stick, random people will come up to you and demand to know what’s wrong with you. Strangers have no chill.
95% of doctors are patronising arseholes and want to tell you that the reason you feel like you do is because of, like, your weight, or the weather, or Muslims, or something else completely irrelevant.
Chronic illness is just not portrayed at all in the media. Invisible illnesses do not exist in movies.
Vitamins and supplements are ridiculously expensive.
That weird pain chart with the smiley/frowny faces on it becomes irrelevant very quickly (and how weird is it that #10 on the pain scale is always someone looking slightly perturbed and not actually in agony?)
Hot water bottles will never be hot enough.
There will be days when you can’t even brush your teeth because you’re so tired, and in so much pain. Friends and family will think you’re lazy but that doesn’t matter, you know your own body.
Netflix counts as a hobby. Don’t feel guilty if the only thing you’ve done today is marathon Friends.
You should look into jobs that don’t involve a lot of movement (office work, tutoring, IT, call centres) and don’t be afraid to ask for financial help if you can get it. It’s difficult to get disability benefits when you don’t have a visible disability but it’s also worth a try. This link has a bunch of survey sites where you can get a little cash on the side, which all adds up!
Being a successful human adult with a career and an active social life is simply impossible. Accept this as soon as you can and it becomes slightly less depressing.
here’s your annual reminder that Thomas Stanley Holland took “umbrella” and that bitch did what she had to do:
Did that happen on this day? My birthday? Neat!

This wonderful human is bringing so much joy into the world. He’s reminding people they’re allowed to play. That they can be silly in public. That fun can come in unexpected places and at unexpected times. I wish I knew who he was. I’d donate so he could buy more pillows and bring more fun into the world - once it’s safe enough to.
The teenager was asked to write a short scene or draw a short comic using a comedic trope from a list on a handout in their HS American Lit class. They chose to do the comic …

Huh, I have symptoms of both. Not surprised but intrigued
I think everyone’s mathematical journey would have been so much easier if they showed you the sine, cosine, and tangent unit circle (R=1) animation in precalc
Below is sine and cosine graph in relation to circle (R undefined)
Below is tangent graph in relation to circle (R=1)
below is all six trigonometric functions on unit circle (R=1)
i have to be honest this makes it worse
it’s very nice to look at but i think i actually understand less

therapist: so, how have you been coping with your anxiety lately?
Me, nervously: Well… I’ve been trying to treat myself like a nervous cat…
therapist, stifling a goodnatured laugh: Oh? can you explain that to me?
Me: Well… if you have a nervous cat, the first thing you do is make sure their environment is safe and remove stressors… and you make sure they have enough food and water and places to hide… and you provide some enrichment in case they need to work out energy…
Therapist: And how are you applying that to yourself?
Me: Um. If I feel anxious, I’ll see if I need to back out of any sites or conversations, enforce my boundaries… check my environment for flashing lights or painful noises… make sure I’m hydrated and have eaten… and work on a hobby
Therapist: those are all excellent things! You’re a nervous cat and you need care and kindness!
